  • Didn't see much on RUclips for old For 3 speeds so I decided to record one....
Recently rebuilt my Ford (Tremec) 3 speed manual toploader, thought I'd take a stab at explaining how they work. Obviously I'm just a "home gamer" so if I got something wrong let me know... Cheers!

There is not much content regarding this transmission.Your video saved me a teardown by giving me a visual of the neutral lever position. Thank you!

Thank you this helps. Mine I save out of a scrap yard works just fine. And has a short tail shaft and is a 9bolt top with same shifters.

Hate to disappoint, but this was right after rebuild, before I buttoned it up and installed. One thing I will mention is to be VERY careful tapping out the output shaft into the case and through the top hole. The rear boss for the idler gear is in the way and you can break it off real easy if you don't angle the assembly correctly. Then you need to find an old school guy who will still weld cast iron. Ask me how I know! 😉

i needed to see speedo drive gear before removing my tail shaft housing , to see how complicated replacement would be . looks like probably no other parts to go flying when i remove housing . thanks for the vid .

I plan to put a 3 speed on a 120 tp 200cc engine, and then stick it on a wheelchair but the wheelchair will have one front wheel like a motorcycle. It will be hard to push start so I want a key ignition and a 3 speed transmission so it is actually functional

Hi: thank you for the video: I have a question:
If the transmission is on first gear; would I be able to move the another gear arm to 3rd speed?

Hi rob one ? Do you know how the gear lever fastening is in the gearbox in a Mustang?

What kind of Ford did this come out of, a car? I just got a 76 F150 with the 3 speed but I believe they are different, just not sure how different. Thanks.

Came out of my 76 F100 longbed. I know the third member was swapped for an open unit from an LTD, but I believe the transmission was stock. Most of the 70s 3 speeds were pretty similar with minor changes to hearing or synchro rings from what I remember??
