Great video. Always good chemistry with the three amigos. Some of my friends are whiners and they never complain about this. Its about the same amount of booze as a classic cocktail. ½ beefeater ½ titos ½ 100 años silver ½ 3 star ½ dry curacau (ferrand) ¾ fresh lemon juice ¼ simple Shake strain over ice ¾ sugar coke top Lemon slice
I love mixing drinks. So honestly i feel that if your physically seeing and check every ingredient that goes into each specific glass your mind will send signals to your flavor pallets and automatically favor the more expensive one. So in future comparisons I suggest blind comparisons. Like the way you stated with vodka is you take multiple vodkas and blindly compared them side by side you can’t tell what’s the cheap vodka. But that’s my two cents on it. As for the drink itself do you feel homemade seeet and sour has a difference on the drink vs all natural or the cheap sweet and sour mixes? Or does the alcohols have a higher impact on the overall flavor compared to the mixers?
We have blind tasted some cocktails before and I know the mind games, but I also have done this for awhile, I can tell the differences b between two drinks made with different ingredients; this isn't a subtle difference like trying to pick out a brand of vodka in a Greyhound cocktail or anything. It's clearly two different drinks and neither of them are fantastic, neither of them are complete crap either. The difference is that the aftertaste and impact of the sour notes play different and I don't prefer the one with the lower grade mixer, but sure, you hide a shitty ass tequila in a mess of a cocktail and it's not the tequila you're going to pickout and say "hmm, this isn't good tequila", you'll be more apt to say "this just isn't that good." :)
Common Man Cocktails that’s makes sense :D, it is hard to pick out specific alcohols unless they are really really low quality, even then the mixers mask the rest of the drink usually. Thanks for the reply! I enjoy watching your videos, even more now that I know your active in the comment section :) thanks
What?! Not a cocktail?! I love Long Island Iced Teas!! But aside from actual sweet and sour ingredients and 100% agave tequila, high end ingredients are lost in the drink. It's a suicide for adults, but better.
yep, pick the ingredients you care about the most -- but make sure those ingredients have flavor before you bother, light rum...vodka... it's not going to add flavor to build in a killer product.
If you use actual sweet and sour it'll taste more like an alcoholic Arnold Palmer (aka a John Daley) I imagine, but if you use the fake stuff it'll taste like a boozy Lipton Brisk =D
Which version tasted more like iced tea? Some swear the cheap rail liquor version tastes closer (I guess AriZona Arnold Palmer), but I remember you saying the 3 Mile Long Island Tea (premium version) tasted more like tea.
I had went and bought the ingredients to make some long islands and they ended up not good... BECAUSE I BOUGHT LIME JUICE instead of lemon juice. the difference between lime and lemon in my drink was catastrophically different. It was so bad with the Lime that I ended up pouring the whole can of coke in there to try to turn it into a Cuba Libre or whatever. I absolutely believe that Cuervo and Mr Teebag sour mix ruined that cheap version.

I feel that you could go low budget on most of your alcohols the only big factor would be the tequila would be the one that would make the big difference between a cheap mixto and a tequila to 100% agave whenever I order a Long Island at the bar or make it at home I don't care what kind of alcohol is used or if it's pre-made sour mix just as long as the tequila is 100% agave your videos re the best been on binge watching
Right based on what? Recipe or price? Price is highly dependent on where you are in the world. A drink down the road will cost me $12 to $15, in NYC the same drink will be $18 to $22, my guess is in the Midwest it’s probably half that
Ah, not a clue, I don’t know anything about that area, but if that was what they were charging than I guess that is what it is or they probably get no customers to buy their drinks
Cheap = What you'd get at the airport Applebee's High End = What Dale Degroff would suggest doing to make the cheap version less... trashy. Also, you're brave to break out the Cuervo (aka distilled donkey piss).
OMG, Do Not buy Cheap! Me and my friends thought we try it with cheap and middle grade..... You taste the cheap alcohol. Needless to say the cheap alcohol is still in the cabinet. 😝
We've recommended many over the years, mostly all Tiki. Oh, wait, actually (searching my channel)... yep, we did a video on this a few years ago, here it is: ruclips.net/video/oq9P58-CNxo/видео.html

Thanks i tested this a month ago. Mine were fantastic and used Palm syrup to sweeten.
Interesting idea to compare well vs top shelf. And just like a dive bar the bartender scoops the ice with his hands 😉
Lol gives it that hand made flavour
@@ericking1000 Might be the most natural ingredient in the drink :P
This was a good comparison. Its always worth watching you guys have fun

love these videos as well as the blind tests.
thanks!
Interesting. Not something I would ever drink but still interesting.
These drinks are much darker at bars & always have lemon slices when I buy it
I find if you use a high end tequila, it overpowers the whole drink.
*Comparison videos are the best, BUT please...blind tastings are always best.*
Where do you get your Havana Club Rum from?
Mexico
@@cmcocktails I believe you meant Cuba via Mexico. Mind you it might be easier for you to get it via Canada.
I was almost charge $15 for a long island full shots. Is that right?

To be fair their traditional blanco and reposado 100% agave is good and fair market price
