Frédéric Arnault, the 27-year-old son of LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, became CEO of TAG Heuer in July 2020. The fourth child of Bernard Arnault graduated from the École Polytechnique in France. After an internship at Facebook's AI division in New York, he joined TAG Heuer in September 2017, which was then led by Jean-Claude Biver.
Frédéric Arnault usually works from Tuesdays to Fridays in La Chaux-de-Fonds, where TAG Heuer's headquarter is located. From Fridays to Tuesdays he is in Paris, where he has an office at the LVMH headquarters and at the TAG Heuer office which deals with connected watches.
Frédéric Arnault leads +/- 1,600 worldwide employees. The turnover of TAG Heuer is somewhere in-between 700 million to 900 million Euro. Since LVMH does not disclose numbers for individual brands these figures might be incorrect of course. But one thing is correct: Frédéric Arnault targets a turnover of one billion Euro per year.
It is the first time we speak to Frédéric Arnault. In our conversation we taped at Watches and Wonders in Geneva he describes his vision for the brand that was founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer. Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the founder, still is the honorary chairman of the company.

There is a reason Verstappen takes of his TagHeuer once he finishes the race and puts on another steel sports watch which he favours. Problem of TAG Heuer is that it does not have anything that appeals. I would bet even this CEO does the same. Perhaps its time to drop the Tag and move towards Heuer only.

Yes. I’ve seen Verstappen wears another brand quiet often. Unlike Federer or Nadal. Also, TAG bought HEUER brand to become TAGHEUER. Why not just revert back to just HEUER brand now that TAG is not owner anymore.

the prices of all watches are soaring high but a reasonable discount may be granted at any official TagHeuer retail shop, though the craftmanship of Heuer is outstanding it will be a definitive comeback for them now that an in-house caliber introduced everything will be in-house from Tag Heuer now!

I like this CEO, I was a bit sceptical in the beginning, like yeah he is just a protégé placed by his dad, but he is doing very well and the results are really good with the Porsche and Verstappen partnerships and a really nice lineup of watches… the solar and lightweight Aquaracers, the black Monaco, that crazy tourbillon… he really saved the brand after the Biver shock treatment

This brand is to going to do a lot better because of Frederic's dating rumors with Lisa of Blackpink. Lisa is self made, Frederic Papa made. Would he really be a CEO at any company at the age of 27 years old if his dad was not a billionaire? Having said that, he seems to be a nice guy from a close net loving family. It seems that he and Lisa will be well suited. My prediction, Lisa and Frederic will be engaged within 2 to 3 years and married in 3 to 5 years. His seems to be absolutely smitten with her, and she flattered by him. Also, her dad is European; Swiss/French so this will be familiar to her.

@@WatchAdvisor sehr sympathisch und mit der Einstellung passt es super zu TAG Heuer. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass er länger dabei bleibt, um der Marke die Kontinuität zu geben. Das ist bei den Richmond-Marken leider nicht immer der Fall.
In 2008 I purchased a brand new Rolex GMT Master 2 Pepsi for CHF 3200. Now it’s the price of an Aquaracer 300 !
Prices of watches literally went through the roof in the last years...
"Today's culture" according to TAG and Frederic means smartwatches and NFT displays that offer no lasting value to their customer beyond a few years. However, that's the point. Get NEW and YOUNG customers to commit to a first luxury timepiece purchase. Maybe they'll come back. Could they sell more Carrera and Autavia re-issues? Of course. But TAG and Frederic believe in exploring watch space that few else are trying, as well as trying to keep prices below stablemates Zenith and Hublot.

The Biver era was a good one. I bought the Cal.18 Telemeter, The Monza and a few Monacos. All Heuer branded sans Tag. The Arnault era has brought back the Tag Heuer mall watch magique. So nostalgic! Just walking past the Tag Heuer window displays without so much as a glance and no intention to buy any of that faceless, soulless, characterless mall fluff takes me right back. Bravo Tag Heuer!
TAG Heuer has become an international known brand... Many just say "TAG"... So why eliminating "TAG"? What could be done is to introduce a brand in the brand called "Heuer" ... But this something even Jean-Claude Biver didn't dare to do...
@@WatchAdvisor Not saying they should remove the Tag in Tag Heuer, nope I didn't say that. I believe Tim Mosso said it more than once but not me. I prefer the call back to the past that Biver brought to the collection. The Heuer branded vintage inspired ones within Tag Heuer brand. The Heuer Telemeter, the Heuer 160th Silver dial Carrera and the Heuer Fujiwara Carrera to name a few. These were the Heuers from Biver. They were stunning and I bought all of them. The new 44mm dinner plates, not so much. I hope Arnault will give the Heuer archives a look and bring back some vintage pieces. How about a 39mm re-edition of 2447NT Carrera for starters? They already have the case and the movement for such a watch. They just need a dial. Take my money please. Arnault are you listening?

I like the design of some Tag Heuer but please, make a in-house mouvement or choose a COSC mouvement for three hands watches if you put the price in the same range than Tudor.
TAG Heuer now gets its future calibres from "Kenissi", the same manufacturer that produces them for Tudor. The two companies just signed an agreement...
the "in-house" thing is a weird thing to impose on TAG. I think that a Tag is meant to be worn and beaten, and if beaten a little too hard one day, they should be easy to repair/service (and affordable, too).
Same kinda goes for an ETA powered Tudor. Newer Tudors are trying to build value beyond being "budget Rolex", but a Tag isn't.

Let's see what will happen to Tag, a brand that i love, but should fly down a bit, not going to play in Breitling territory in terms of prices. JCB cant be replaced easily by this guy..By the way, a solar power movement watch, cant be sold for 2.5k as, indeed, a plastic Breitling cant be sold for 3k..
Yeah, Tag Heuer should be in the "Longines-price" category. Yeah, a few walks outside that are ok but I feel that Tag Heuer is moving higher and higher. Yes, a lot of "watch enthusiasts" don't like Quartz wrist watches but I feel like Tag Heuer has lost that segment (meaning here the Formula 1) out of view.
@@thomasa.243 yes, they completely lost that segment, but hey! do u remember the quality of their quartz watches? was crap! F1 lately it's ok, but again, prices are too high, even if, you can always get a good discount on TAG
@@gianpakasa Yeah, the current F1 is roughly 20% too high in pricing. Especially when you look at the Aquaracer which is much better in terms of quality but only 150CHF higher in price. What I feel they could do is to make a plastic composite watch similar to the Aikon Tide from Maurice Lacroix. Use good quality products, price it accordingly (500CHF +/-), maybe even use recycled plastic and voila, you have that market segment. Maybe Alexander should give them hints 🤣.

My first Swiss watch was a simple Tag 27 years ago and my second Tag from 2001 is the Link Chronograph the one Jason Bourne wore in the first Bourne movie. I really like them and they are dear watches for me.
However, today's Tag lost its history and its identity in the past 15 years. Running the company by a 27 years old just because of his father is just not the sign the company is heading in the right direction... at least for me...
Only time will tell, if Frédéric is/was successful...
I think tag Heuer could dominate the 3-4k dollar range with the Carrera and Aquaracer if they only could do some small things like up the resistance to magnetism to a set say 1000 gauss and maybe put say a sw220 or 2892 in the watches. Maybe even cosc cerify them. Since Tudor seems hell bent of sticking to only making retro black bays and Breitling and omega wants to go upmarket that leaves tag with one of the biggest segments of the market to rule. If they want to that is.

Would like to see them do well. Many of their watches are too big and chunky. Maybe scale between 37-40mm and might pick up more customers. I’ve always liked the heritage but just can’t find the watch right for me.

I love Tag Heuer watches. I’m the proud owner of three Aquaracer and I correct my friend by telling them how good they really are. But, Tag need to back me up on their quartz models by getting the simplest task of getting the second pointer to hit the marks. It cheapens the watches. I have 4 Casio that hit the indexes perfect. Even the solar watch on this video is off. Come on, get the little details right.

Nice interview but I will be extremely critical with regards to brand and products. Although the romance of Jack Heuer history and the models which were made in period were great, today, I don't understand this brand, its branding, its direction. I only see it as a survivor. The vintage watches re-editions reconnected the brand to its organic past but other than that, as we say in French: "image à définir". Frederic talked about associations with football whilst the brand has barely any more associations with its organic past in motor sports. I mean proper racing; races. Even at historic racing level were it could fit; nothing... Other than the round smart watches which look fine, the mechanical watch designs presented are rather strange, these appear "forced"; change for the sake of change and give the feeling that the designers do not yield from watch design. I jumped my seat when I saw a square/rectangular helium escape valve as it is the ideal way to promote leaks; these usually develop at the corners... that's the reason all helium escape valves are round / cylindrical... The sales for these will be the tell tale as there is nothing better than the market to prove it. Other than the V4 from years ago which was interesting but large, what is Tag Heuer's contribution in term of horological innovations ?
Now, although having a 27 years old CEO for a major brand may seem risky, I believe that it is a great thing to do. I applaud this decision ! I have worked some years with Polytechniciens, they are like all of us with a difference that they understand things blazingly fast. So let's see what happens. All the best to Frederic !

Great watches, but I if I don't own a Porsche, the watch makes no sense. Just release it without the Porsche name as the colors and design are great. Also, take the Gulf logo off the Monaco. No one cares and many would rather the logo wasn't on the face. They should have put a ceramic bezel on the Aquaracer. These mistakes are why Tag doesn't compete with Rolex and other similar price points.
I can't share your thoughts! These watches are what they are also our to the cooperation with the brands mentioned... On top TAG Heuer offers enough non-branded alternatives...
