The Cheyenne Dropship is one of the most iconic movie models ever made. Today we're restoring, painting and lighting our 32mm set of dropship and APC. Perfect for games of AVP, Warhammer (it'd work for imperial guard right?) and Stargrave.

AWESOME Dave! Love seeing the Conwy board at work. That wire wrap tool is a savior, MS or not! I used with my son when he was younger to teach the basics of wiring LEDs, without the risk of burning him!

@@MSPaints Your problem of your dropship looking only 1 colour, all over, is not your fault. The screen model used in Battlestar Galactica, the model kit of it, said not to weather it, at all! And he brings out the classic tome! Outstanding! This is great work, though one things always annoys me when I see kits and things made up for the combat drop scene is that every time, the landing gear struts are created wrong and the ship doesn't "crouch" over the struts after touch down. It's a small thing, I know, but there's a specific shot in the movie showing this.
Without a doubt, one of my favorite Sci-Fi universes.

@@MSPaints I have 'warriors of the wind' on VHS, my mom got it me because it was my favourite film when I was 8 or 9 from the local video store when it shut down. The actual copy I rented. Then in the 90s discovered anime and realised where it came from 🤣🤣

The blending of miniatures work to practial full scale set work on Aliens is amazing. Stan Winston and his team were unbelievable.
I recently sold the APC. As you say, casting was shocking on these. Well done on this.
Yeah! Was rough. Stuck mine together with super glue and baking powder. Had to stick it in carpentry clamps because of the warping!

I see you use the Zerg fighters in shots somtimes, they deserve a paint job like this.

Ditto! I still think its one of the best ALIENS games out there honestly, and what irony that its essentially a DOOM clone when DOOM started off as an ALIENS game

@afireinsidebrad I much preferred it to Doom as well! The soundtrack of the game created such an intense atmosphere. I was always scared to walk down every corridor!

Dave, I found you only recently after seeing you on the painting phase. But your videos are amazingly shot and the sound design and music is on point and epic. You are the only miniature channel I watch every video of, no matter the subject or gaming system. Keep up the good work, 😘

dirty down rust applied with a sponge is AMAZING too. as they get differing thickness in layers which varies the look
I remember getting one of the last few tins of Brown Bess many years ago when I was putting together a horrendous resin cast of the pulse rifle and armour kit. Was an absolute mind bender of a paint to work with, but it all came together when using the hearth slate polish "weathering goop"

Awesome video MS Paints 👏 Aliens is still my favourite film by far.
It's rough doing pieces that are supposed to be current active-duty military hardware. The military keeps its gear super clean and in tip top condition. So, a Star Wars style over the top rust, dirt and grime, dents, scrapes, etc may be fun to do and add scale, but would never be seen on military hardware that is in service and not meant to be battle damaged. Makes it challenging to show scale. Good job finding that balance :)
This was awesome, and educational for me - must have seen Aliens a hundred times, did not occur to me the vehicles were brown! The results are fantastic.

Good tip for weathering use some hairspray before your paint layer, then use a bit of water on a brush and it chips off...works wonders. Awesome work though.

My AvP Cheyenne is still in its little wooden box :) but I've painted a bunch of full size Aliens props , and believe it or not the easily available Vallejo model color 871 'Leather brown' is a dead ringer for brown bess. It's also acrylic which I prefer (I think the original Humbrol colour was enamel. Which is a pain in the arse.).

Every time I see a SquareSpace advert, my geeky brain says I need to learn that stuff cause I bet there are 1000 folks in my adopted home town that would be better off with one than the shite some other numpty built them.
Love watching your videos and seeing you try out all these different paints. By the way I highly recommend the video series Adam Savage did on Tested about making a spaceship on Starfield, especially when they focused on painting and weathering the model, some wonderful tips in that video.

I’ve got an old resin look-alike APC that still needs painting. Seeing this I’m thinking a spray with Vallejo English Uniform then some highlights with a green-grey to simulate the effects of that lighting.

Not watched aliens in a long time. But i honestly thought the gun on the apc was alot bigger than it shows on the model. Also something for you should try painting is an airsoft gun replica. In an alien looking style.
