This song is so underrated. It's one of my favourites. Sadly he didn't play it neither during the Divide Tour nor on the Mathematics Tour (at least in Poland).

I love how he tells such amazing stories of his family. I believe his brother and cousin helped with the song as well.

About his fathers parents. Sounds as if it was taped in an Irish pub!!! That would be so typical, really! I think Fiddles are the sound you like!
    Looked this up…
"Nancy Mulligan" is one of the most personal songs on the album, telling the story of how his grandparents, William Sheeran, a Protestant from Belfast, Northern Ireland and Anne "Nancy" Mulligan,[4] a Catholic from the Republic of Ireland, met, fell in love during the Second World War and got married at the Wexford border.[5] Sheeran said: "They got engaged and no one turned up at their wedding. He stole all the gold teeth in his dental surgery and melted them down into a wedding ring, and they wore borrowed clothes to get married, and just basically have this kind of Romeo and Juliet romance, which is like the most romantic thing. So I thought I'd write a song about it and make it a jig [reel].
In an interview with the Irish Times, talking about the song's Irish roots, Sheeran said "I don't think enough people use Irish folk in pop music... Hopefully if these songs are successful, more people will do a bit more like it."

His grandma was Irish Catholic and his grandpa was from Northern Ireland and Protestant. During The Troubles in Northern Ireland; bombings and the IRA. So Ed is 100% Irish.

No, ed Sheeran released his DNA test on on his Instagram and he’s not 100% Irish. In fact his mom is English. He’s 50% Irish & 44% English 6% Norwegian ( Norse )

Enjoyed your reaction to the whole album. I really liked your thoughts on "Galway Girl" (the girl in the video - Saoirse Ronan, Irish actress - also appeared in a Hozier video for "Cherry Wine") and the Irishness that he uses. I would recommend an older band from here called The Cranberries. The lead singer (Dolores O' Riordan, no longer with us sadly) had a technique with her voice called "keening" which made it sound wonderful. And also Dermot Kennedy is another Irish artist with an amazing voice.

It’s about his grandparents. They had no money and had to borrow clothes for the wedding that nobody showed up to. He said “I made that wedding ring from dentist gold.” That means that his grandfather made her ring from gold teeth he collected from dental surgeries.

Irish music is hands down the most easily forgotten types of music and as someone who loves all kinds of music be it old or even ancient like sea shanty’s, to Russian and even German folk songs like kytusha and Erica, even to things like Mongolian music all the way up to the more modern techno but Irish music is one of my top ten favorites at least

  • @hadesdogs4366
