LOVE your commentary Father!!!! Nothing about separating, but about uniting. I am a Roman Catholic and I revere the Orthodox Church as a one true Church with Catholics. In reality what separates us are just political nuances, but in reality we are United in a supernatural way that we cannot yet see with our human eyes.
For now, I will celebrate the Catholic Pascha and later, I will go to an Orthodox or Coptic Church to celebrate the most important date in our salvation!! God bless you!! Christos Anesti!!!

4:33 Why is it a "positive" thing to permanently separate from the Jewish Passover? If you're going to celebrate Christ as Passover "around" Passover (eg, not at Christmas, or Thanksgiving), wouldn't you want to do it at the right time? Or is there a view that the Jews have the wrong timing?

Why is it postive to disconnect (at Nicea) from Passover? Yeshua, before He became known as Iesous/Jesus by the Gentiles, did not disregard Passover, but made it symbolic of His death.

    • @user-gv9my3jy4b
      @user-gv9my3jy4b 8 месяцев назад +2

My question exactly! I am an orthodox convert from a Messianic background, which will always be my foundation. Christ died for our sins on passover because he was the fulfillment of the foreshadowing, which was the passover lamb, which delivered the Isrealites from death, just as Christ came to deliver us all once and for all. They are utterly, instinctually linked.. this is like discarding the Old Testament, which is not simply the story of the Jewish ppl, but the story of Christ and the prophecy of his coming. These are the types of things I struggled with before and still struggle with in regards to orthodoxy. This makes no Biblical sense, you cannot seperate God and Christ from Judaism.

@@user-gv9my3jy4b Yes, thank you for sharing. I live in Northern Ireland and after working in Israel for 10 years where I met many Jewish Christians or Messianic Jews, I discovered in my own hometown in County Down a rich history of the pre-Roman Celtic Church in Ireland and Britain which together with St Patrick remembered the Lord's death on Nisan 14th, the date of Passover (today), not the Roman Easter celebrated just over a month previous by most. ☘
This ended after the Synod of Whiby in 664, after which the British Church turned Roman and the pockets of Irish missionaries retreated to remote islands, such as Lindisfarne & Iona, with the later Protestants keeping the Roman holy days without question, yet eschewing Passover.
The Irish took their practice from the Quartodeciman ("14th") churches of Asia Minor which were founded by the Apostle John, with whom Polycarp is said to have kept the Passover with.
It's all very interesting, but controversial for some, so I rarely bring it up now out of fear. 😧

Those of us with little ones often get the exact same question and the best I have come up with (before seeing this video) is that out Easter is decided based on the calendar of the Jewish people during the time when Christ was living on earth.

Idk why we abandoned the Hebrew calendar to begin with. It seems leaving the original Hebrew calendar has caused much division and confusion within the early Church. Yeshua was conceived in the blessed Virgin Mary womb during Hanukkah and born during Sukkot. He had His Passover Seder on a Tuesday and died on the Cross during the High Sabbath on Passover on a Wednesday. He spent three days and three nights in the tomb during unleavened bread and rose from the dead on Firstfruits on Saturday evening(Sunday)!. This only works when following the Hebrew Calendar and the Hebrew concept of a day and night cycle. The two Churches of RCC and EO need to recognize the edification of the Moedim that centers around and glorifies Jesus Christ as Abba intended since Genesis 1:14. The dates and times line up with the Hebrew calendar and with the Scripture.

Something is inconsistent with your interpretation, with all due respect.
Vernal Equinox is a very definite date, I.e. WEDNESDAY 20th of March 2024, based on astronomy and mathematics.
Then, applying the rule of the Nicean Council, there can be only one date for Easter Sunday. All the rest is interpretations.
In fact, the Nicean Council was absolutely correct not to link vernal equinox with a fixed date. In a nutshell, Orthodox don’t observe based on the Nicean Council rule but putting an interpretation based on historic differences with the western churches. In fact, the interpretation involving the Gregorian and Julian calendar 12-day differences is not related to the vernal equinox, which is a very fixed and easily found day in Spring based on astronomic calculations, i.e. the day that has equal hours between day and night. And this day and can only occur once in every Spring.

What I’m hearing here is that there isn’t the political will to use the more accurate calendar and get on board with the rest of the Christian world. This date difference frustrates a lot of Orthodox, because we end up missing Holy Week and Pascha, due to work or other conflicts. Why not just make the decision to fix the problem and stop being so stubborn?

I think we need to agree on a single calendar *for the Orthodox Church* , before we worry about matching our calendar to the heterodox. I find it hard to imagine there is anybody who thinks it is good and correct, or makes any sense whatsoever to celebrate the liturgical year using two different calendars! Not to mention Apostles' Fast is virtually wiped out. There is a serious problem here - and the Holy Mountain agrees since there is not a single monastery there using the new calendar.

This is pure ecumenism!!! There is only ONE CHURCH. The Catholic "church" has to repent and RETURN TO ITS MOTHER CHURCH = ORTHODOX. The Holy Fathers didn't accept any compromise and even gave their lives to protect the TRUE CHURCH. There are many issues in Catholicism, plus that the Pope thinks he is God = INFALIBLE and he will never leave his 'throne'!!!

It is a very sad thing that the Orthodox Church celebrates this Holy Day on a different day from the Christian west. In America, most Christians are western Christians. Many Orthodox in America have family (and also children/grandchildren) who celebrate western Easter. It really diminishes the Holy days for me. And I wonder (despite all the theological justificaton) is it faithfulness, or is it pride? Orthodox in America celebrate Christmas on December 25. I pray that one day the Orthodox will join with western Christians and have the same Holy Week.
