  • I go backpacking in 100 degree temperatures in the Sonoran Desert region of the Superstition Wilderness. Hiking in summer desert temperatures should not to be taken lightly. Every consideration has been made in terms of climate, sun exposure, shelter and water availability. The same weekend of this trip, a 16yo boy scout died of dehydration / heat stroke up on top of Picacho Peak. Every outdoor trip is a calculated risk - if you've been hiking or backpacking in the desert a few times then you know this. Please be smart and know the conditions before you go. Every year from May to September people succumb to heat stroke in the desert.
