How did you hear me all the way from Florida saying I wanted to make my own carnivore chips?? I just spent yet another $200 on store bought and had decided that was just crazy and wanted to try my own. How hard could it be right??? I already have a freezer full of beef from a regenerative farm, a bunch of Redmonds salt, and a meat slicer. Along comes Joe and Rachel, with all your great tips from your experiments (so I don’t have to). After I watched the video I paid a visit to Santa (he was at Amazon, right inside my iPad) and lo and behold, there were electric smokers …for about $250!! I did the math. Very excited to try this! Thank you so much ❤❤
I've been making carnivore chips for a year or so and just love it. My favorite, which surprised me is doing pork loin. In fact I just made a batch of pork and beef over the weekend along with some jerky 😁
I really love the facts that the two of you do the cooking together. It's a bonding experience and a partnership... too many families are off in another world so busy doing different things but the two of you are investing in yourselves and each other which is the glue that binds you together. 💘💝💞
I’m here for back up, got a meat slicer for Christmas. I’ve been out of town, and my goal was to use the slicer to make crisps today. So, I’m reviewing directions to dry in an oven. My dehydrator only goes to 158, and I wanted a higher temp. My oven goes to 170, and that seems safe to me. I’m using Chuck roast, and the slicer and the roast, are a great combo. Thanks for all you two do!
My favorite is Sirloin Tip Roast from Sam’s Club. Less than $5/#. I shape in a round roll using plastic wrap and the elastic that is on the roast, freeze, slice. Dehydrate 160 for 4 hours, then 145 for 18-20 more hours. I season with Redmond smoked salt or salt. Crisp not crunchy, almost buttery, like thin pie crust. I have never tried carnivore crisps so I have nothing to compare. Also love pork roast (cryo vac) too.
I just bought the Corsori Dehydrator and got Steakums and am dehydrating it now. Thank you so much! I have a small kitchen and I have too many kitchen gadgets! Thanks Joe! LOL
Great backpacking food. Carnivore crisps is 270 calories per 1.5 oz of brisket. That means you can pack for four days with about 4 lbs of food. That's an amazing calorie to weight ratio. I took some on the Florida Trail in 80+ degree heat last week and it kept just fine.
This is pretty much the way that i made a similar product a while back in my dehydrator. I got thinly sliced NY strip steak from Costco so I want straight to laying them out on racks. It turned out really really good. I spent $40 on the meat and got enough dried meat to fill a gallon zip lock and a quart zip lock. I forgot to weigh it though.
I have been looking at meat slicers though so I can make this at home easier.
@Elangomatt, How long and at what temp did you dehydrate? Thank you.
Thank you 2kk! This looks so stinking good 😍❤️🤤
“Like his wife” says Rachel 🤣
Thanks for all the tips! Y'all are making eating this way so much easier and more convenient!
We usually get 6 to 9 deer a year. We make our own crisps and Jerry. We also dehydrate the hearts and livers for our dog's treats❤️
This has very quickly become my favourite RUclips channel 🥩 🍖 ❤
I’m super excited for this!! Can’t wait to try.
Rachel....Nice racks!......I darn near spit out my coffee....so hilarious! I love how much fun you guys have with these video's and how many fabulous ideas and tips you deliver to your viewers! Best content ever.
I’ve been waiting for this tutorial.
Thank you!
Yummm... looks delicious!
I bought thin sliced beef and made the carnivore chips following your recipe. Omg how good they are. Thank you❤
Great video. Love the detailed step by step directions. I will try this one day in my oven. I would probably use a chuck roast.
Thank you this looks awesome and I have an electric smoker so finally something I'm not afraid to try
Thank youuu. Can't wait to try making my own 🙂
Finally, a reason to use my smoker. Thank you!!!
Need to add to my purchase list, meat slicer and electric smoker! I love all of the carnivore crisps and snax’s. I just genuinely can’t afford the cost for them!
Very easy to follow instructions! Thanks for sharing 🖖🏻😘👍🏻🙏🏻
Great video. Thanks
Hello Joe and Rachel. I’m a new subscriber and late to the Keto/Carnivore way of eating. So you may not see this comment. But I’d like to thank you both for this video as I recently discovered the Carnivore Crisps product from another channel I follow. So I ordered a variety pack of them and they are great. The downside is I live in Canada so they aren’t available here that I know of. It took 3 weeks to get them, and yes, not cheap. So I appreciate seeing there is a homemade option to the same result. Thanks for sharing, Peace and Calm. 👍🏻😎🇨🇦
Yes, making them at home is easy and much cheaper
I love making my meat chips. The butcher slices it and Redmond smoked salt and in the dehydrator. Mmmmmmm so so good
Holly crap the wandering is like listening to drunk Uncle Bob at Thanksgiving.
I'm a new subscriber, so glad that I found you! Thank you for this recipe! My 11 yr old son LOVES beef jerky and I'm thinking that he'd love these too, so we're going to try making them with shaved beef. This paired with some cloud bread in his lunch would probably be a fun treat and something else that his classmates are going to want to steal from him, lol. My son does not have a weight issue at all. I am just trying to incorporate more protein into his diet, as I'm sure that he gets tired of ham sandwiches everyday, and that's his choice. Thank you :)
I spotted some prosciutto on sale at the store and I bought it and put it in the dehydrator for a few hours. Incredible!
Rachel - you sound so eager with “they’re here now. “ 😂😂😂
oh thank you, i've been wanting to make these since the chips first came out. Thank you thank you :). I'm hoping to do brisket (since it's like $4 a pound at smiths right now), but chuck roast will be my normal
Have been making something similar but with dehydrator and mostly with ribeyes. I place ribeye in freezer for 1.5-2 hours. Then thinly slice with serrated knife. Place in dehyrator at 165 for 8 hours. Makes for a great "carnivore" meal.
I used a small chuck roast that I sliced really thin. I smoked it on my Traeger pellet smoker at 180 for 4 hours. It tastes awesome. A little chewier than the Carnivore Crisps, so I may try the shaved beef from Aldi next time. I'll eat what I have, but it was too much like jerky that I've never liked.
I love your Chicken Skin chips, so I definitely want to try this one!
I bought my meat already sliced / I’m going to try this today. In my oven!
Chuck roast also makes the best jerky in my opinion. Thanks for this idea for a crispy version!
I need to try this. We’ve still got a lot of beef in the freezer from our 2022 steer and we’re expecting our 2023 steer in about 6 weeks.
Holy cow, I was going to figure this out for myself and THANKyou fir saving me so much time. Those chips are so stupid expensive so I was going to make it myself. Whoopie.
I can't afford to buy a slicer like that, even at $80. I was going to try using my blender then rolling the meat "paste" out super thin. Then put it in the oven on low heat to make my meat chips. Was going to try doing it the other day, but we didn't have anything for supper, so ended up cooking the chicken tenders. We now use pork rinds smashed for our breading! and it works so good! We only use either bacon drippings or olive oil for cooking now. I haven't been good at keto. I have stopped drinking tons of poison coffee creamer, but still use a coconut based creamer that contains some sugar. I know I'm bad! I just can't give it up yet. Trying hard to stick to my strict diet to reverse my diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver. No more processed foods for me when I can avoid it. Being on disability I just don't have much money to buy the grass fed meats and healthy vegies. I only eat meats, eggs, avocados, and green leafy vegies, some celery and cheese as well. That's it. Lots of water and enjoy a bit of vinegar in my water and to make my own salad dressing. Love wilted lettuce...hard to find tender enough greens for that this late in the year.
Rachel and Joe, can you please share a video of how to make Keto Bricks?? Thanks so much!!
You can come close to making your own keto bricks at home but honestly the cost of ingredients is so high that its cheaper to buy them from Keto Brick
Thank you sooooo much for having this video You guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I discovered bilitong the other day and have been looking for something less expensive. (road trip coming up). Heading to the store today for a roast and will be making your crisps this weekend.
The chickens would be happy to help with the scraps. :)
Love the video! I do not own a smoker! Did you say this can be done in your oven?
Yes if you go to their website the recipe says you can do in the oven. I had the same question!
I didn't see a link to the meat slicer you have. Can you share the link or information on this. Thanks!
My son and I have been making something similar with round roast. He hand slices it, and we use salt and pepper. We also use a dehydrator. I like mine really dry, like a cracker, then eat it with butter. Addictive! My husband wants to try using the smoker (gas) this year. Yummy 😋
How long does it take you in dehydrator? Mine only goes up to 165?
@@alyssamaloney4886 12 to 14 hours, I think. Thicker pieces might take longer. Mine also only goes to 165. I need a larger dehydrator 😆
Ok, I have a meat slicer and a Nesco dehydrator! 🥩 I need is the meat! 🥩My oven runs so hot that it is too unreliable to use at all! But the dehydrator will be fine! My slicer is 200W so that should be ok, too! Thanks for the lesson!
Gladys🇨🇦
Have you ever tried freeze drying after you smoked. I was thinking of making a batch of bulgogi, cooking it on my Traeger then freeze drying it.
My hubby used to make lamb "slim Jim's" with a jerky gun on his Treager grill...🤤🤤🤤 my only way to eat it
I have been doing these since BBB&E in September. My Asian market has ribeye cut thin. Thanks for verifying I'm doing it right. LOL
yes
Joe..... What size 10" or 12" slice?
carnivore-fruit over here👋
good quality meat maybe expensive but you'll forget about hospital & medicine expenses most the life
have good days
Ever used london broil?
I’m going to try in the dehydrator? Do you recommend that?
Yes
Joe - what do you think the shelf life of these would be? I’m thinking Hurricane food
it really depends on how you package it and the fat content. Fat can turn rancid if exposed to air If you vacuum seal it, a couple months. In the fridge, several more months.
Dollar tree has those papers! 100 for $1.25, I use them myself. If you want 1000 sheets, technically what y'all paid it's equal lol
can you do it with ground meat? or emulsified meat (if you have a buffalo chopper etc)? I was thinking ground meat, rounds like little tortilla style chips.
we haven't tried
I’m making my first batch with steakumms
I have been waiting for this how to video! I have a pellet grill. Will try watching temp in it. But I also have a dehydrator. Will try to make in that as well.
I want to make chicken crisps but this scares me, how can it be done safely?
What electric smoker would you recommend for a newbie and that don’t cost a lot of $$? Thanks
the masterbuilt ones are good. You can get them for around $250 or less at home depot and there are lots of used ones on offerup
@@2krazyketos thank you
How long should I dehydrate frozen chicken breast sliced thin?
3-4 hours
if I asked for it to be sliced How thin?
2 mm seems to be good.
What type of roast was used?
You can use any kind. We prefer rib roast or strip roast
Please…. What’s offer up ? I’m in Alaska and never heard of it
OfferUp.com. It’s an online garage sale site
❤️🥰❤️
Have you tried doing ham?
not yet
Food addiction.
My smoker is tiny so I’m gonna try this in the oven first. Should the sheet pans have racks on them to raise the meat out of all the juices whilst cooking? Also, could I use thinly sliced roast beef that I’ve already cooked and just cut back on the cooking time?
I'd like to know how yours came out using cooked beef. I was wondering if it would work that way because I've been making meat crisps using thin sliced deli meat. I would like to use something fattier. Thanks.
You guys are funny to me, just cuz my mind works so much differently than yours. Rachel asks about using the sliced meat for cheesesteak and says you can make your own steak-umms. Meanwhile I had the opposite thought. I was thinking I wonder if you can just use steak-umms if you don't want to buy a slicer. Obviously you don't have control over the quality of the beef, but at my walmart the family size box comes out to about $5/lb. I guess I'll just have to get a box and try it out.
have a video coming about this
I thought you were going to show me how to do it in the oven. I don’t have a smoker or dehydrator.
You can make it in the oven. Place on a wire rack and bake oven to 170 degrees. Since there is no airflow, you will probably have to rotate a couple times
Have you tried chicken skins?
We have a seperate video abou tthat
sounds fair to me, rachel getting more, lol
There is no alternative to a meat slicer? That’s so disappointing! I don’t have the room for it… I will try buying Hot Pot meat from HMart but it’s substantially more money
Y’all talk way too much! 😂
I just wish you two wouldn’t talk so much and just get to the recipe.
Too much fluff .. you lost me… stick to the topic and do the recipe??
Make beef jerky, much better.
