    Terry: I really enjoy your videos, and have learned a lot. I noted that in this video, you filled your bar oil reservoir from a gallon bottle of chain oil. A tip from a friend and neighbor here in North Carolina, is to use an empty liquid liter bottle of laundry detergent. I use a Tide bottle though I am sure the other manufacturers bottles would work as well. They are designed for viscous fluids and have a spout that easily can be guided to the bar oil reservoir opening. Another feature is a return cup around the spout for excess oil.

Never saw myself becoming a lumberjack lady, but with hurricanes knocking down thousands of trees ,any person that can help remove these downed trees, off buildings, driveways , roads, bridges is a giant plus. Emergency workers are extremely overwhelmed in these situations.

      Wow! Thanks!
      I have suggested to others that there is a need for a video for groundies assisting climbing arborists. They often have to hire new staff who have little to no experience. If a good training video was available for them, the arborists or the company they work for could require new hires to view the video and get quizzed on its contents at day 1, just as you do. I don't feel that I am the one to make that video, but if I don't see someone do it in the next year, I may take a crack at it anyway.

    Great content, been using for years but learned some things from your videos. Think I got a strategy on how to to tackle a dead leaning elm over the driveway without mangling the red oak that it’s wrapped around. One addition to this video is the importance of cleaning the saw periodically, among other things the oil passages in the bar can get clogged with dust, resulting in accelerated bar wear.

    Thank you, Mr. Hale, for all your videos!
    I’ve watched this video (and I really liked the duration, by the way) and I have a small question. Most other videos I saw teach to pull the bar up when tightening the bar. It’s written in my chainsaw manual either. But you didn’t do this, so the question is - is it necessary to pull the bar up before tightening it? At least with my chainsaw, when I do this, the chain tension increases and (what seems a little bit strange to me) the chain becomes to spin more freely because of decreasing friction near the driving sprocket (I think that’s how it’s called in English).
    Thank you again and best regards to you,
    ~ Konstantin

    • @terryhale9006
      @terryhale9006  2 года назад +1

      Thank you, Konstantin, and thank you for your English proficiency.
      It is not necessary to pull the bar up. When the bar is pushed forward, the chain will become tighter and that tension will lift the bar.

      @@terryhale9006 I agree and even with my beard, I have watched this video. Good review even for us who are familiar with chainsaws. Well done Terry! Thank you for the video. One suggestion is to mention the homeowner series saws from Stihl that have the elasto-start system. When I had an injured shoulder, that easier starting system made it to where I didn't need to pull so fast and hard on the starter handle and save my shoulder much pain. It is also easier for my wife to start it and her saw (MS261C) was purchased partly for that reason. Yes, it is her saw although I enjoy its easy starting and lighter weight. Perhaps other chainsaw manufacturers have a similar easy start system available since it has been available for a number of years.

    Terry I have a couple of questions about your walnut trees. Where in nys do you purchase your trees, what month do you buy them, what size tree do you order and are they any type of variant or just plain black walnut. Lastly, I couldn’t find an email address for you. Thanks in advance..

    • @terryhale9006
      @terryhale9006  4 года назад

      Hi, John. The originals were from the Saratoga Nursery, run by the State of New York. I bought then as "whip seedlings" which have bare roots and were around one to two feet tall. I bought fifty such seedlings each year. They came in one huge envelope with several paper layers to keep the moisture in. I don't remember the exact time I bought them, but I would guess it was around late April or May. As far as I know, they are just the normal Juglans Nigra. After the first trees got old enough to drop nuts, I resorted to just planting those. If you want to go a similar route, you need to order quite early, so see about getting on the DEC's e-mailing list very soon.

    @billstewart2433 4 года назад +1

    I can't agree with your comments about gas saws and "relatively" easy starting. One has to have a bit of strength to pull that starter cord fast enough to get the engine spinning fast enough to start. If you're young, or should I say, not too old or frail, yeah, they're relatively easy to start. Otherwise they're darn near impossible to start. In my old age, my Stihl MS 211 with the spring assisted "easystart" feature really is easier to start. Much easier than even the Stihl MS 170, though twice the cost.
