    Leaking combi boiler in Menston Leeds. My name's Allen Hart, today we're with Mackie repairing a leaking Baxi. These Baxi Duo Tec's are normally very reliable but this is obviously when it's been installed.
    Today we've come out to a Baxi Duo Tec. Duo Tec's seem to have a spat of problems, or they'll start to leak through the diverter valve, making a lot of mess. So we're going to change it today. What you need to do is drain the system, remove the diverter head. Notice that's wet, it's still operational so we'll dry that out. Unscrew the top. I have to show you something. There's the old one, notice it's green cleaner left in this system.
    What they do is they leak through the top there. If you notice there's a few differences there. The old one is longer, it's also difficult to tell because of the colour of it but this is actually plastic, whereas this is an all brass design. Probably see it a bit better on there.
    Now we're just going to take the new one, pop it back in there. Obviously we'll tighten up and assemble it in reverse. On some of the older Baxi's you did tend to get this leaking here. They did change that and put it into a brass washer. It's all back up and running now so we're just going to test it. We're going to put it into service mode and check emissions on it, and make sure it's all safe for us to leave it working for the customer. We've advised the customer to have the cleaner drained out of the system and some inhibitor added. Just so that this fault don't happen again. Also it would be a good idea to have a filter fitted to protect it in the future.
    Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. Please add your comments and questions below.

    Just had this fault on my Potterton which is exactly the same. Needed to change the diverter motor as well as it was fully wet and blowing fuses.

    very useful thanks, helped me fix mine. My insurance are arguing that the leak is down to sludge in the system yet it is from 2007 so thinking older type diverter. plumber left us with no hot water and still leaking after 2 visits. I ordered a new complete valve and also fitter a filter to the return and it is running with cleaner in system which will be drained soon

    Brilliant! I googled how much to repair my boiler; estimated £200+. I followed the instructions on this video. Bought the diverter valve cartridge form E-bay, £14.49! dried out the diverter motor, took under an hour, job done! thanks Allen!

    brilliant, the Baxi, Main and Potterton boilers seem to have the same configuration.

      Where can you buy the diverter valve on it's own? I can only find the entire hydraulic assembly for sale

    There was a factory defect on some amount of them around 2015-16. Now it is fixed I think. I have no problems with them.

    I don't get how the new one is a direct replacement. Its much shorter which means when the pin is actuated it wont reach as far as the old one? Am I missing something?

    Hi Allen, 48 hours ago my boiler developed a constant on and off clicking coming from the diverter valve assembly. During central heating running it was working fine but the valve motor kept trying to operate all the time even when there was no demand for hot water to warrant its operation. This morning the RCD on the house mains tripped and low and behold on inspection the 3 pin diverter motor plug was soaked in water. After disconnecting the plug the boiler would start without issue and we have heating at least. I have a gas engineer coming tomorrow who has suggested replacement diverter and drive motor due to the leak and the water ingress. Do you reckon this will solve the issue? It just seems odd that something was calling for the valve to operate. If the valve doesn't travel all the way does the PCB know? im thinking maybe it was stuck and the boiler constantly kept trying to operate it. Thxs for any advice!

    When removing the old diverter cartridge the plastic came apart from the brass top. Any ideas how to remove the plastic section other than replacing whole section with the plastic inside. This is the third one in 3 years that has needed replacement, hopefully the new design will be an improvement

      I have fitted hundreds of these boilers and have only had a couple of these, check your system as I suspect that may need cleaning. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks ''your video was easy to follow ''and a great help''isn't it amazing you and I' and plenty of other people will notice''no matter what manufactures promise and flimsy guarantee ,they will all ways now'' go for cheapness in their products' knowing full well'' yes those customer suckers will be back to us in a very short time'' just like cars ,etc sold on a promise the best money can buy''yes our money'' then after a while 'faulty 'or cheap parts were installed etc etc''''why were these brass valve fittings not put in to the boilers when first manufactured .rather than a cheap ,flimsy ,plastic,metal, spring valve'' knowing full well it would rust,and break '' surely it does not make economic sense'' or building your name as a worldwide safe product'' and I am ashamed to say our great Britain is now like that''cheap and make do'' it never used to be that way'

    Why are Baxi boilers prone to leaks when Vaillant boilers are not ??? With this in mind I would buy a Vaillant for next boiler not Baxi ! Any thoughts ?

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  5 лет назад +1

      Funny you should say that as i went out to a Vaillant that was leaking, Water was leaking all over, I would fit baxi every time over any Vaillant.

    I have a Potterton Gold, the same boiler as a Baxi Duotec. It’s the second boiler as Baxi replaced the previous 3 year old one as it had 5 failed divertor valves in that time. The latest boiler is just under 2 years old and the same valve has failed on this one as well. It’s borderline fraud getting customers to pay for extended warranties when they know full well this component is suspect. Even though its had a slight redesign, its a 3rd party component that Baxi are rumoured to be suing the manufacturer of this valve due to the amount of failures it has suffered. My mum has an old Glowworm back boiler and it just works. Combi boilers are crap really.

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  4 года назад

      I would have someone check the water quality for you. I have installed hundreds of that same version of boiler, i don’t have hardly any issues. The part is a moving part and normally lasts a good 6/8 years

    • @colingraham9281
      @colingraham9281 4 года назад

      Thanks for the reply Allen. Baxi took water samples from it originally after it failed when the boiler was less than 9 months old, and they found nothing wrong with the water. The system had been previously flushed and cleansed with inhibitor added. It’s been protected by a spirotrap, which has been upgraded to a Magnaclean Pro2. It also has a fluoride inhibitor fitted to the water supply. The Baxi engineer admitted to me today that it is a 3rd part part ( not manufactured by Baxi) and Baxi are currently involved in a £ 6 million lawsuit against this part manufacturer. I believe it is borderline fraud to expect customers to pay for extended warranties, whilst Baxi are aware of this issue. The engineer said he sometimes replaces upto 8 of these valves per day during his shift! There is a housing estate in Durham near Newcastle where 80 houses had Potterton boilers installed in new builds. 56 of these new builds had the valves replaced within 2 years of the boilers being installed. There’s a disturbing pattern here that Baxi are aware of, but are misleading customers in my opinion.

      @@colingraham9281 As i say i have installed hundreds and have only had a couple on my installs over last 8 years, never had one changed twice. Thanks.
