  • A properly designed NFT system is based on using the right channel slope, the right flow rate, and the right channel length. The plant roots are exposed to adequate supplies of water, oxygen and nutrients. In earlier production systems, there was a conflict between the supply of these requirements, since excessive or deficient amounts of one results in an imbalance of one or both of the others.

    Those heads of lettuce are so inconsistent in size. All that lettuce is not viable for sale in the market place. They have a lawn growing underneath the nft system? That’s bad practices. Grass is a magnet for pest and diseases. Also look it all the wasted space around the nft system. I wish I had that greenhouse I’d be making millions and millions of dollars 💵 per year.

      The display in the video is a project of Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which only has the function of display and experiment, not commercial planting. The ground is real turf, and the growth cycle of lettuce is not long. This amount of lawn will not harm the planting.

      Thank you for your question.The display in the video is a project of Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which only has the function of display and experiment, not commercial planting.If you need to grow lettuce for commercial, our suggestion is to equip the planting lamp to fill the light.

    Is there no lighting for the plants on the lower levels? Is the ambient light sufficient for lettuce and leafy greens? Thanks

      @@mikoydavis7244 Greens grow to a certain point with very little light but im suprised how good they look. The NFT system their using is usually used with lights. What I find odd is that one of the benefits of growing vertically is to be able to rotate plants and create a 24/7 production cycle. I don't really see how this could be profitable without reaching the maximum potential output of the space.

      I'm sorry to reply you so late, because I'm busy dealing with other things at the end of the year.
      On the question that the light source you mentioned may not be sufficient, my answer is: it is recommended to configure led grow light. The NFT system in the video is placed in the greenhouse. Even in a sunny greenhouse, we recommend to configure led lights to ensure the normal growth of lettuce. I hope my answer can help you. Sorry again.

      @@naturehydro3480 no worries and thank you for your answer. If it’s not a secret, how much light (wattage per area) is needed and what spectrum of light fro growth?

    Is that real grass on the ground? How do they keep things clean when that needs to be mowed? Doesn't look like a very good idea.

    • @naturehydro3480
      @naturehydro3480  2 года назад

      yes,it's real grass.It's a project of Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences.In order to show the effect, lawn may be added. In fact, whether there is lawn in the planting process depends on your preferences.
