you actually attended the evening yet you don't have the recording? wow..must have been tremendous...I have had the recording for years and while not perfect I would have had goosebumps sitting in that audience!
You mean for now? I'm planning to put together a Retro Decade Revival Project. Our goal is to bring real entertainment, true talent, pure originality and diversity, old school and more back into the mainstream, starting with the 1980s. We'll get the thrills and excitement of old Broadway back thanks to the Retro Decade Revival Project.
I was there there at the Broadway Theater (I believe) and in all my life prior or since I have never seen a theatrical event that has ever come close to topping this one. It was sold out months before & Lauren Bacall didn't know until 10 minutes before the show if she would be able to get in. The dinner afterward was phenomenal. It's unfortunate that Mary refused to have it taped. I didn't know there was even an audio recording. GREATEST EVENING IN THEATER EVER!
I also had the pleasure of being there and meeting after at steak house I have the full recording on vinyl would never forget even if didn't refresh my memory every now and then
The applause at the end is a chorus line of Broadway greats that Anna Sosenka got to do a great chorus all male Broadway great stars producers song writers...great night great chorus line and Merman at the end yells Julie yes ...he was there and I believe Herman also...great night...this was my Broadway!
Ethel was still doing her concerts around the country and continued to do so afterwards. always to sold out audiences. I saw her open Meyerhoff (Hall)? in Baltimore. Sold out! And I was at her debut at Carnegie Hall, her only Carnegie performance. Which was her last really BIG time performance. She stopped the show 4 times and drowned out the trumpet player during Blow Gabriel Blow. I was in the first row. No one believed me till they read it in Earl Wilson's NY Post column the following afternoon.
John Kenrick - Musicals101.com This was a one time performance!,,and should have been video taped, but Mary said NO. Next morning, the newspapers had Ethel the best..Mary knew the tape would last forever proving it!,,
@@mariemarchesani1595 I was there. It was phenomenal. But Mary was not at her best. They offered to clean up some of her vocals for a recording, but she refused. I asked Merman about it when she was autographing my copy of her autobiography. "I wanted to di it [a recording],:" she said, "but Mary didn't."

Find Merman's Blow Gabriel Blow which closed out act I. She fuckin blew the ROOF off the joint. This number is kinda jokey anyway, the way it's concieved here.
You're kidding, right? This is Broadway royalty you're talking about. Go find yourself one of today's no-talents with their auto-tune and over dubbing and leave the real talent to the rest of us.
Italo Brancaccio: THETE are plenty of opportunities to hear unique and wonderful performances that don’t have video and it doesn’t diminish the sound. Just like you not having a brain doesn’t diminish how sorry people are that you exist. 😇👍
One of the most exciting nights I’ve ever spent in a theatre. Would love to hear more from that extraordinary evening.
you actually attended the evening yet you don't have the recording? wow..must have been tremendous...I have had the recording for years and while not perfect I would have had goosebumps sitting in that audience!
I was there one of Broadways greatest nights. No one cared about vibrato or the key. The thrills and excitement of old Broadway...never to be again.

Without a doubt, one of the greatest nights in the history of Broadway!
If only there were video footage of this performance! How could they NOT have thought to film it for the ages?
Mary Martin said NO, so no.
Ethel wanted. Mary said she would do it if they filmed it.
Brings tears to my eyes....the very, very best of Broadway, and all gone now. God bless their memories.
A dream come true!

bob ascani, did you know Lauren Bacall?
The evening was taped, but Mary refused to release it.
@@strollingplayer5362 I understood it wasn't taped as Ethel was interviewed prior and she said Mary didn't want it recorded.
Sorry but this is awful
They're just doing imitations of themselves
I also had the pleasure of being there and meeting after at steak house I have the full recording on vinyl would never forget even if didn't refresh my memory every now and then
Me too. An unbelievable evening!!!!! Oh, to have it on video!!!!! Would love to see it again!

Wonderful. This is definitely a performance for the Theatrical History books. LEGENDS both, to be sure.
What a perfect night it was 18 yrs. old was on and off stage with la merman and mary martin
No Broadway night greater than this, folks. It's all gone now.
i’m absolutely losing my mind holy actual fuck this is INCREDIBLEEEEE
How brilliantly fun! I suppose the man speaking before their entrance was Cyril Richard, aka Captain Hook
This is gold!!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
One night of pure glory!
it was great for them to recieve and confirm audience adolation once more, broadway royalty in duplicate

Oh to have been there!
Instant tears.
Thank you so much for uploading! How amazing it must have been to have seen this live. When Mary crows - all the feels.
And surely that was Cryil Richards who played Rudy!?! - What a treat!!
I was there, What a night. The produces wanted to film the show. But Mary said No Way! Too bad.
There wasn't a video made of this at all? That's so sad, It would have been great to see.
I know Merman played Dolly and I gather Mary did too but when and why did they appear together? In any event, a special night.
It was actually a two night concert -- the ticket demand forced a second performance.

@@mariemarchesani1595 OMG! Really!!!!!
That is not correct. There was only one performance on Sunday Eve May 15th, and an invitational dress rehearsal on Friday afternoon the 13th.

Who crows around 2:00? It sounds like Merman, but it makes more sense that Martin did it
Mary

Wow! Amazing! Do you have anymore of this concert?
Erik Romero I have all of it
Michael Olbrych really? Will you post it?
+Erik Romero not sure that I can because of copyrights.

Michael Olbrych many believe the complete recording’s been lost. It’d be amazing if you could post it!
I'd have loved to have seen the clip, but it was frozen. What's up with that ???
I don’t care for the way Ethel sounds as Dolly but would love to have seen Mary play the part.
The part was written for Merman.
@@machovoce6826I saw Merman in Dolly at the St James. She was terrific!!
Yuck. Just yuck.
They sound as if they can't find their keys and Merman's vibrato is wide, wobbly and nails on a black board. Just dreadful.
Find Merman's Blow Gabriel Blow which closed out act I. She fuckin blew the ROOF off the joint. This number is kinda jokey anyway, the way it's concieved here.

This is when voices had character.
I dislike this video because is not video to watch..youtube is meant to watch videos, not to listen to bad old recorded live shows with not image..👎
This is a treasure.
… Italo, this is not for you, please move on!
Move on is right!!!
