You know, I feel like if this was the Aquaman from Batman The Brave and the Bold, he really WOULD just save a boat from crooked raiders, and they'd be like 'Thanks, but who are you?', and Aquaman would just poor out his 'secret origins' to them, squatted down as if telling a story over a campfire, with there attackers may-or-may-not be still perusing them as they speak.

Timothy Ashton and then he would go into a huge musical number

aquaman: *OUTRAGEOUS!!!*
#bestaquaman
Let's all admire the fact that Aquaman is a king with a magical weapon, and his name is Arthur.
...How did I never notice that?
And got a magic water hand from the lady of the lake that one time... yea 😂 that happened
@@AquaFan1998 What a strange life the Aquaman has lived, lol
That seems to be an running mythology gag for Aquaman. Justice League Unlimited did that with the Utiliman arc where the Wonder Twin expies decided to try an drown aquaman with an title wave. It didn't work and he got to remind them that he's king of the sea.
So ends one labor of Aquaman!
Stay tuned for labors 2-12!
Why people think he's lame? Because 90% of the people who say that only know him from Super Friends or people making lame jokes based on that.
Yeah, seriously. *Everyone* was a gigantic dork in Superfriends. But this being everyone's first mental picture of Aquaman is so bizarre. It's like if everybody's first thought when you say "Batman" is the Adam West incarnation.
He also usually has a REALLY stupid outfit. Orange and green, really? C'mon man.
Meanwhile! Batman stayed behind and made peanut butter sandwiches, because the rest of the league was traveling so deep beneath the waves his Bat-gadgets would be freaking *useless*!
"These are going to be some great sandwiches."
The problem was that the writers of Superfriends kept writing him into episodes where "talking to fish" has no applicable use. The fact that none of them were allowed to throw a punch didn't help.
Exactly. I was going to say the same thing. Funny enough the "Super Friends" pretty much made everyone but Superman look lame and wimpy. Hell, all you had to do to beat Batman was take away his utility belt. Without that he was nothing. I even remember Wonder Woman having to be saved by Superman a good deal.
At least Aquaman had that one episode where he was stuck in the past and the nifty idea to bury his communicator (which had an atomic battery) under the site of the future Hall of Justice to let them know where and when he was.
I thought that was so cool when I was a kid, then I realized that someone should've probably found it when the land was being cleared to build the Hall or as soon as their communicators were activated (which they used to find the signal) or anytime before that but somehow it only worked at the exact right time. :)
All I can think about is Kevin Smith's run on Green Arrow, where Arrow returns from the dead, takes one look at Aquaman's shirtlessness, and immediately starts arguing for Aquaman classic.
Comparison to Cthulhu? Aquaman fought Cthulhu on an annual basis according to one story.
And unleashed him against Godzilla tho weirdly calling it kraken
Aquaman finally got his cameo.
ThePreciseClimber shut up aquaman
"Hello!"
You we need Linkara to Review Dr. Fate from that same issue.
The origin of Aquaman, who's costume along with Aqualad's would become inspirations for MermaidMan and BarnacleBoy from SpongeBob SquarePants.
Tommy Diaz-Millan You realize they are Parodies of them, right??
R Guillaume inspiration of the parody; no need to be pedantic.
_"But these miracles you've done for us! How did you manage them?"_
_"Ah, an interesting story. It all started with my father, famous explorer, whose name you'd certainly know. After my mother died..."_
_"Jesus Christ, man, all I asked for was a simple 'I'm a demigod' or 'mutant' kind of answer!"_
Saitama: "Enough, you idiot, shorten it to 25 words or less!!!!!!!"
Ah, Aquaman. You get a overly silly interpretation in a silly cartoon, and people think you're the worst superhero of all time for decades. Good to know his origin.
Also, the animated Throne of Atlantis and DC animated Aquaman are awesome.
99% of people don't think Aquaman is lame. It's just a few people making jokes. Batman was the same way for years.
The Trident thanks to Arthur has Cthulu as a Summon on Standby.
Also brave and the bold
If you think Aquaman's golden age origin for his powers was nuts, just wait until you learn about Black Condor.
so in 1959 they retconned that aquaman was actually the son of a lighthouse keeper and an atlantean queen... THEN IT WAS RETCONNED HE WAS THE SON OF A WIZARD. Reading wikis of characters I thought I knew can get weird sometimes.
Don't like a character's backstory? Give it a few years, you'll get a new one
Aquaman is awesome and has respect in my family. My brother always said the best ways to do Aquaman are either the super serious badass hook handed one like in Justice League (DCAU) or the supremely goofy but competent version like in Batman: Brave and the Bold.
Well, when someone's spent his whole life with only his father for company, it's not like he's going to get a lot of good feedback on witty repartee.
Fan of Most Everything that was his Father’s greatest gift to him, dad jokes will always be more useful than super powers
Weirdest, funniest line: "I don't know what danger this is - but I throw it back to you!"
I love how almost every superhero has thrown down with the Nazis at least once.
It’s a right of passage at this point
3:04 It's probably just a stereotype. Monocles were all the rage in 19th century Germany, especially in higher ranks of society and military. In Great Britain, too, but then Kitchener at some point forbid it. Later, it became an item in political caricatures, to portray the stereotypical Prussian officer.
This tale is truly OUTRAGEOUS!
I think it's a little fishy myself. Yeah, yeah, couldn't help myself.
Not enough JEMS
@@jfdrac Like Lewis said, Batman x Jem crossover. Especially if it's Brave and the Bold Batman with special guest Aquaman.
I'm with you on the bearded Aquaman look, Linkara. Gave him a more fitting royal presence, imo.
Im iffy on the beard, mostly depends on the costume its with
Everyone shits on Aquaman but he's usually depicted as a pretty solid hero. He doesn't just do underwater stuff, he's been show to possess super strength and durability in level with superman. The older superman, not the one that can punch planets into space dust.
An AT4W episode is just what my crippling depression needed. Thanks, man
Aquaman looks so freakin' bored as he kicks that guy overboard. Makes sense, I guess: with his strength it's probably like kicking a stone off your driveway.
Aquaman's weakness is a locked door? Looks like that's something he shares in common with Melvin Ishtar
Man, Aquaman seems like a badass. King of the ocean, able to command an army of terrifying sea creatures, wields TRIDENT (which is great for stabbing, I'll bet)... so how come so many people joke that he's useless?! It makes no fucking sense!!!
So everything aquaman did in this comic was on... Porpoise?
How dare you
+Wolfie What haha!
probably.
and the lamess of their puns would probably cause some sort of chain reaction mess the order of things.
Boooo! Lol
-_-
Never watched Brave and the Bold?!? Then we shall call it the "Adventure of the Time Linkara Watched Aquaman and Some Other Heroes"!
Seriously, the B&B version of Aquaman was one of the best characters on the show, and some of the best episodes. There is a reason that is my second favorite Batman animated series.
Groot is one of the many villains who turned over a new leaf in recent years from the silver-age, where he posed a threat to the Hulk.
'Oceans of love' from a sea-man huh......
But seriously I wouldn't want to piss off someone like Aquaman.
You're hardly in the Minority. Hook-Hand Aquaman is a true Badass.
RomLoneWolf23 Damn straight! I loved that design. it gave him a hard edge instead of the preppy, Freddy from Scooby-Doo, look. plus, the reason behind the loss of his hand is equal parts badass, heroic, and noble. Easily my favorite design of his.
He's beaten Superman, and one of his closest friends is the Main Man himself. Aquaman is not to be messed with.
Yeah, the Silver Age version of Aquaman is a much better origin story, and despite everything else at DC, from Flashpoint onwards Aquaman has been pretty consistently a good comic, especially the current series with Rebirth.
I think that's definitely why Geoff Jones used it for the current version of Aquaman.
Not really. If Namor was wocinteresring he'd have more exposure, and he doesn't. He can barely ever hold a solo book and the last time he had one was years ago. Marvel doesn't even care about him in the way DC does Aquaman.
@@user-pe8pv1vx6w nothing, the comment was saying that rebirth is realy good :) and it is
Man, we need an episode in Plastic Man. I really need to know your thoughts on him!
No! It should be Martian Manhunter!
Why not both?
For this year’s Secret Origins Month I predict Hawkman, The Punisher, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver, and Vision.
@@BrendanJSmith He always does 2 Marvel and 2 Dc so that would not work
@@jfdrac yeah, maybe scratch Vision from the list.
Dumb prediction: While at Youmacon, Linkara got a lot of people cosplaying as Ariel, Aquaman, and other aquatic-based pop culture figures to say that Aquaman is awesome before going into his opening monologue about Aquaman's status.
Thoughts on Aquaman: The Rebirth series is my favorite Aquaman series. While I do acknowledge that Aquaman has cool moments, his Silver Age run was incredibly goofy, even for the Silver Age. Forget Bat Baby, it's dumber.
Required joke: OUTRAGEOUS!
With the exception of Batman, Batgirl, the birds of Prey, and probably Harley Quinn (I haven't read any other series of her's but they've got to be better), everyone's rebirth series is the best the character's ever been.
Even Red Hood And The Outlaws has been better.
+MiscellaneousSoup To be fair, it's not hard to be better than the New 52's Red Hood and The Outlaws series, at least its first several issues.
Keelan Barron nothing, it's just that those were already good.
"Let's play hot-potato! :D"
"Wow...REALLY hot-potato... :|"
Been pretty stressed lately and that part cracking me up is just what I needed; thanks for that, Lewis.
Brave and the Bold Aquaman is the best.
Indeed !
He's OUTRAGEOUS!
I think we are at the point now where the best versions of comic book characters are no longer comic books
nohomers100 we reached this point years ago with Scott Summers and Jean Grey, on X-men Evolution.
He also can SING!
8:47 I think you can blame the old Super Friends TV series for that.
or you know that tyhe nazis took him out by dropping a hammer on his head in this very comic book
🐬"although they do have trouble having trouble understanding him due to his thick accent" 🐬 lmfao
oh yeah, make fun of the guy who has NO PROBLEM with flat out murdering his enemies
Hopefully Khal Arthur Curry manages to redeem the character
Sometimes by throwing actual goddamn bears at them...
It was peer pressure. Everyone was murdering their enemies back then. :)
He thought that grenade was a pineapple.
filozof He DID say he didn't know what it was. :)
Recently it's been retconned that the Golden Age Aquaman was Adam Waterman, a separate Aquaman that Arthur Curry took the mantle from
Really?
Aquaman is so courageous. His little fish? Less outrageous!
10:31 You know, it's Nazis like this that make me really miss Von Stroheim. Not only was he competent, somewhat honorable but could blow Aquaman away BY DEMONSTRATING THE ABSOLUTE POWER OF GERMAN SCIEEEEENCEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
SEKAI ICHII!!!!! *sprouts weapons from his back*
1TrulyMad I bloody love Stroheim "GERMAN SCIENCE"
BRRRRRRAAAKA MONOGAAAA!!!
his science was not strong enough judging as this bitch bit the dust off screen while fighting normal people (which is the stroheims true best moment in my eyes)
Well, we don't have the Subma-Raider...but we do have a Submarauder.
9:11 I AM AN AQUAMAN!
As for next week's focus, I'm sorry to say, with Civil War II, Clint has re-earned his place as a villain in the eyes of others and myself.
Funny video and you're not alone. I also got hooked (pun not intended) on Aquaman from Peter David's run. I really liked that illegitimate son Koryak and his crush on Deep Blue. I was so bummed when he was killed by the Spector. Sigh...
Personally, I love Aquaman's new52 outfit. His and Supergirl's are the only good costumes to come out of the new52.
*Sees Thumbnail*
Aquaman: I AM NOT A FREAKY FISH GUY!!
Bats & Supes: ARTHUR'S A FREAKY FIIISH GUUUY~~
Aquaman: I am not! I don't need you, I have the Ocean. What say you, Ocean?? *Ocean says nothing because it water*
The ocean says Yes.
I love this show! You are definitively one of Channel Awesome's best, Lewis! Right up there with NC and ERod!
@2:49
COLONEL KLINK?!?!?!?! What's HE doing here?!!
Yes! Finally! One of my top five super Hero origin is depicted with you~ I can die in peace~
5:31 Michael Felps as the new doctor that sounds amazing !
Well, I mostly know about Aquaman from the Justice League cartoons, with beard and hook. And that's kind of the one I like the most. That and the one in Young Justice.
Actually my headcanon is now that Golden Age Aquaman's dad is Captain Nemo of 20,000 leagues under the sea.
Aquaman got his combat training from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, of which his father was part.
"Umm dad? If you know how to breath under water and can teach me, why do you wear the diving suit?" "Silence, boy! Now breath harder if you don´t want to drown!" Father of the year everyone.
Also "I`M THE AQUAMAN, BITCH!" Sorry for the lame joke, but i had to get this one out of my system.
please tell me you are not gonna change the SOM theme anytime soon, the avengers track kicks ass.
Aquaman may have bad one-liners, but yours are brilliant. Great review as usual.
I much prefer the Justice League version as well.
"I've oceans of love for you boys!" PLAYING! PLAYING WITH THE BOYS!
Biggest tragedy about this episode: No more Aquaman cameos in the secret origins month title cards.
Submaraider... ok, now I have a new villain for my next Mutants and Masterminds campaign
Remember when Linkara didn't stall until Halloween for plotlines to finish? Pepperige Farm remembers
I member... I really thought this was going to a member berries joke. I can't seem to get away from the damn member berries lately. Someone even mentioned them on "Talking Dead".
The storyline isn't finished yet.
Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall And yet whenever you do it's Halloween. 85% of the episodes are non-story and me going "wait, where the f*** is Vyce?"
IF every episode moved the plot we'd get a little tired of it. He's got to spread it out.
Until the Entity storyline, storyline finales were in February. And even the following two years still ended in February. The last few storylines have been horror focused, so they ended there. And even then, they did not "stall until they were at Halloween." There wasn't enough storyline to justify waiting another 2-3 months to reach Halloween, so I ended at the natural conclusion point. And this storyline still isn't over (it had originally planned to end on Halloween, but I've been swamped by everything happening lately - moving, Longbox, the proton packs, etc.) by a long shot, soooo there you go.
Hawkeye secret origin? All of my yes! One of my alltime favorite Heroes and one of my alltime favorite comics.
Kacper Przysiężny Your comment would appear to be lost on me. What's that mean again?
Kacper Przysiężny Ah. Good old civil war 2. Guess I have to read that now.
Kacper Przysiężny Ah. Bad old civil war 2. Guess I won't be reading that then. But Hawkeye kills a hulk in it?
Well, glad to see the current Marvel isn't giving bad storytelling to another one of my favorite villains. Heaven knows they've done that with Mockingbird.
Oh I thought you were saying the new Hawkeye main book is bad, which if that is the case would be wuite dissapointing.
You know Linkara, the Aquaman from the Justice League cartoon is my favorite version of him too
The way you said "Aquadick" made me giggle a lot xD
The art in this is really good.
FINALLY! I've been waiting for this one for years now, Aquaman being my favorite superhero and all. He needs more love. Oceans of love, you might say.
This was actually really fun. Enough ham makes anything fun lol.
Next Secret Origins Month, I want the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
He did TMNT #1 already, just not as part of Secret Origins Month.
Aquaman's father confirmed as a young Dr. Wily.
I think quality of his one-liners might explain Aqualad catchphrases as well. "See the sea!"... moaning mackerel indeed.
Aquaman in this comic across more like Steven Seagal's character in "On Deadly Ground". A guy who claims to care for the environment yet causes more damage to it than the supposed bad guys.
Oh, so Brute Force.
Of course the Atlantians could punch through steel underwater, its called Fishman Karate
10:52 Or perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man, before throwing him out of a boat?
12:47 Aqualas Cage
A monocle coupled with a moustache is just a classic way of screaming "I'M EVIL" but without actually saying it.
Aquaman is Jacques Costeau, son?!
I never liked his revised modern origin where he is the son of an Atlantean princess and a wizard. Making him half-Atlantean and half-human made more sense.
While there are no DC or Marvel characters named Submaraider, there IS a Transformers character called Submarauder. He was a one-off pretender in G1, but got written into the Animated series as a mutated creature, an experiment of trying to make transforming humans
I swear, Aquaman has had like 8 origin stories
I'd love to see Linkara talk about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Origin story for Secret Origins Month
Damn, when was the last time you did the I AM A MAN punch? And I'm not talking about referencing it, I'm talking about actually doing it.
Last year when I pulled out the AT4W Movie DVD.
Question for you Linkara: Do you plan on reviewing the Sentinels of the Multiverse card game comic?
And maybe even the card game itself?
Since I'm here, I might as well, ask. What are your thoughts on Spiderverse or Renew Your Vows?
He has none since so long as Marvel continues to ignore One More Day Peter Parker is dead to him.
I was gonna say the last time your Create-A-Wrestler was in a match in SWO, and several of them, but that works too.
Never has “drop the hammer” been so literal.
Aquaman having an album on iTunes? I bet he'd be much more interesting to listen to than a certain someone. *coughcough*Kayne West *cough*
2:44 Ironically, in Overman (from the Multiversity event, this one being a look at what happens if Superman wound up...in Nazi Germany. Interesting thought experiment, isn't it? Is it weird I wanted to learn more about how he was raised, and how his city came to be?), it's stated the reason Nazi Germany sided with Atlantis is because Aquaman looked so much like the Aryan ideal.
7:52 HOW?! More importantly, how did you survive the undersea pressure without a suit?!
14:45 You mean Justice League/JL Unlimited Aquaman? 'Cause that Aquaman is my favorite too, not to mention he's THE Aquaman to me.
To me, he's tied with BATB Aquaman but JL Aquaman was cool and badass in a serious way.
I like the Shirtless Hook-handed Aquaman too.
Ah, so you know Das Boot? Great movie! :)
Funny thing is I saw Justice League Throne of Atlantis last night. I think the origin in that was pretty solid
Just by the first page Aquaman has the power to bend the laws of physics as he punches the bullet in one direction and the bullet flies off in the opposite direction.
Still begs the question why couldn't he break the door immediately when he can punch holes in steel underwater
"Forth from the ocean comes a terrifying juggernaut of justice."
Ah yes, a guy in orange and green spandex on a dolphin. I'm shitting bricks just thinking about it.
If you saw a dude commanding sharks you'd be terrified.
@@theangryholmesian4556 yes, the same guy who has "oceans of love" for the Nazis.
@@lorddrayvon1426 I think that "oceans of love" comment was sarcastic.
@@theangryholmesian4556 I dunno, he is from the ocean so may not know what the Nazis were exactly. And even then, people didn't really discover the Holocaust until they were liberated in 1945. Back then, it was just a pissing match between countries and not a race war.
@@lorddrayvon1426 By race war you do mean horrifying genocide right?
Great review. Surprised you never made an DOMA arc joke about Aqua Man's dad discovering Atlantis.
Aquaman looking like Nicolas Cage in the last panel haha
Don't forget to use under the sea music when covering the secret origins of aqua namor in whenever you cover him!
What car does Aquaman prefer under pressure? A Mercedes Bends
Aquaman's never had a look that worked for me honestly. The hook hand and beard look always felt like it was trying to hard to be 90's edgy, and made him look more like a pirate look then a king of the sea's look, and the orange and green look, while ok, was always hard to take serious or seem threatening.
Honestly my favorite Aquaman design is Aquaman 1 million.
I always kind of liked the blue ocean camouflage suit myself. Never understood why they always made a point of saying it was a one shot deal. That or maybe make the shirt silver (to resemble fish scales). Then you would have to change the color of the pants to something that would match grey.
Chris McWilliams
I think Silver would be an awesome color for Aquaman. Keep the scales and it would give off an undersea knight look.
shadowspider9 Perhaps, I guess the pants could be changed to match.
It was stated somewhere that the camo design was too hard for the artist to draw consistently. So many little detail that the editor had to make sure stayed the same.
istilldontcare2 Yeah I think I heard that an I can see it for sure. Too bad though as it was cool.
I could see something maybe, design wise, the same as his current suit but in sea colors as a good compromise.
I'm mad that Nazi Monocle Brothers fits the cadence of Super Mario Brothers and now the world 1-1 music is in my head!
Next Episode is Hawkeye
He is more than a fish. He is more than a man. He is Aquaman!
Creepy fish guy finally gets his cameo.
OMG im happier than liefeld when he doesn't have to draw feet also please do namor next
A time-traveling Michael Phelps series would be amazing
Yeah, I'll would watch this series.
Also with all the porpoises, there was a missed opportunity to use that clip from the 1966 Batman movie were the noble purpose saves Batman and Robin.
+starwarsnerd100 I always joke that Aquaman sent it to save them, kind of a subtle cameo.
12:05 Aquaman caught that grenade so hard, it broke his neck upwards.
6:39, I’m not sure but that sounds like a reference to Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues under the sea
3:33 is it just me or do Aquaman and that woman have the same face?
Shhhhhh. It's the 40's. Rule 1 is don't question the art.
I thought dead Nazi's was rule 1...
Maybe it's don't question dead Nazis?
