The movie visual quality is a bit low until minute 7, I don't know why but at least it gets better later. Check my patreon for extra content! www.patreon.com/c/pennyiswatching/
Some random movie info: 1. The cabbie is played by a famous old school actor Ernest Borgnine. 😄 2. Harry Dean Stanton (Harold, Brain) was def in Alien movie. 😅 3. The Duke was played by Issac Hayes, famous singer & song writer. 🎶 4. John Carpenter made the music him self for many of his movies. 👍 5. Everyone knows who Snake Plisken is and they all thought he was dead. 😂 6. The Punk David Bowie character is called Romero in the movie. 🤔
Ya you have to be heavy into movies and older to see a movie with Lee. Penny can't recognize someone she's never seen. I think she would really like the Spaghetti A westernnzzuh!! 😂 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY‼️
@allengray5748 I don't know, I've seen probably 20 or so reactions to GBU and all were by millenials and GenZ reactors. Check out Scottish "Dawn Marie", she watched her first western a year ago, fell in love and has now reacted to 10-15. She's a jewel.
It's cool you caught that bit at the end when Snake asks the president how he felt about the people who died died trying to get him out, and you said "it proved a point." Exactly. Snake asked him that as a test to see whether he should give him the real tape. But when the president gave him a bland answer about the "nation appreciating their sacrifice" instead of showing real gratitude, he knew then what kind of guy this was - one that he didn't deserve his help. I remember seeing this movie a zillion years ago and liking it a lot. Even back then, the effects were less-than-special (many movies back then were relatively low-budget compared to today), but the story was fun, cool, different, and as you said, unpredictable. But that's the inventive mind of John Carpenter for you. Horror movies are more his genre, but he's a good writer. If you want to see another good Kurt Russell/John Carpenter collab, only this time suspense/horror, check out "The Thing." It's a nail-biter!
The president's answer made me think of a song I love by System of a Down, in which they say "Why don't presidents fight the war, why do they always send the poor" - he got in trouble, and other people died for him, and he kinda just shrugged the whole situation off as "I deserved it because I'm the president". I was so happy to see the tape's scene after that! I'm definitely going to watch The Thing because I need more stuff like this movie in my life
@@PennyisWatching For sure! The president's face after that music started playing... lol! "The Thing" is a banger. I remember seeing it in the theater and everyone was creeped out. Be sure to watch it with the lights off. 😉
Thank you. If you are interested in more of John Carpenter's work his second movie "Assault on Precinct 13" (1976) is in need of some love on RUclips, it was shot on a low budget but features many of the director's flourishes, and is often brought up in film school as an example of his work and what can be achieved on a low budget. After "Assault on Precinct 13" Mr. Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" (1987) is often overlooked, it is the middle movie in his Apocalypse Trilogy along with "The Thing" (1982), and "In the Mouth of Madness" (1994).
1. Snake is in trouble throughout the entire movie. 2. A British President? 3. Manhattan is very expensive real estate for a prison.🙄 4. The girl in the Chock Full O'Nuts is Season Hubley. She was Russell's squeeze at the time. Before Goldie. 5. Everyone who says, "I heard/thought you were dead" dies. 6. The eye patch is Russell's idea.😎 7. I loved, loved, loved Harry Dean Stanton😇 8. Favorite character: Romero. 9. This was filmed entirely at night in an area of St Louis before it was refurbished. 10. The only reason to watch "Escape from LA" is to say you have. Besides doing this for a living. PS: A great John Carpenter movie is Stephen King's "Christine". No Kurt Russel, but Harry Dean Stanton is in it.
Penny - Thanks for allowing me to watch this movie with you. As you said, it's like watching the movie again with someone and I very much appreciate your comments, movie plot guesses. I only saw your website a few weeks ago, but have enjoyed each video again, sharing the movie time with you. Much appreciated.
THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY‼️ One of many Westerns ( Cowboy movies) directed by Sergio Leone known as Spaghetti Westerns!! I think you would really like! Great Reaction Penny to a movie I didn't like when it came out but I've warmed up to. Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Fun reaction Penny, your commentary during these movie reactions is outstanding and oh so funny at times!! I look forward to the next one regardless of what it is.
This is the first time I’ve watched a reaction to a movie I’ve never seen. I was confident a Penny reaction would be better than the actual film. And with not one but TWO David Bowie shout-outs, I was right! I too can see the future. You could react to bad TV commercials and I’m there. 👍🏼
Thanks for another great reaction, Penny!❤ I love Kurt Russell. He is such a down-to-earth guy, as is his partner Goldie Hawn. Incredibly, they`ve been together since 1983. His first movie appearance was in 1963 in one of Elvis Presley`s movies, (It Happened at the World`s Fair) when he was 11 and had to kick Elvis in the shin 😂 And who would have thought back then that Kurt would play Elvis only 2 years after Elvis`s death in the TV Film "Blue Suede Shoes" (1979). Since you asked, I think you would like the movie "The Golden Child" (1986) with Freddie Murphy. "Big Trouble In Little China"? Oh yes, I love that movie, too.👍
Penny, I LOVE “Big Trouble in Little China”!!! This is a great movie too! Love Kurt Russell as Snake, but also Donald Pleasance as President and Lee Van Cleef as Prison Chief too. Hey, Happy Halloween!!! Love your show!!!
Hope you had a great Halloween! Since I'm so behind with my watchlist, I only really recognize Lee Van Cleef as "the guy in those movies my parents love" 😂 I seriously gotta watch the Dollars Trilogy
Got to love that old Klingon proverb about revenge being a dish best served cold. It's really hard to go wrong with John Carpenter especially when starring either Kurt Russell or Donald Pleasence (who played the president in this movie)
Happy Halloween, Penny. Yes, Penny, they are cannibals. That poor girl taken by the Crazies was played by Kurt Russell’s ex-wife Season Hubley. Yes, Brain was Brett, the guy taken by the Alien while looking for the cat Jonesy. Cabbie was played by the legendary Ernest Borgnine. I grew up watching him playing ‘heavies’, a gladiator overseer and a bumbling US Navy officer in a sitcom. I saw this film with low expectations, looking like a low budget TV movie. It has become one of my all time favorites. I was on the edge of my seat, gripping my arm rest tightly throughout the film. I did not relax until the end credits. I saw the film in theaters five times. Each time, I forgot and I didn’t see it coming. I said “F@(K! out loud in the theater when Snake broke his walkie-talkie! I was still doing it years later, seeing it at home from my DVD collection! Love your reactions, Penny. Especially your instructions to Snake during the gladiator fight. I highly recommend another John Carpenter/Kurt Russell film, ‘The Thing’.
This was movie was part of my first date with the woman who later became my ex-wife. So my feelings about it are mixed. Glad to see your reaction to it!
Happy Halloween! The sequel to this movie, Escape From LA, doesn’t get much love but I think it’s a good movie! It’s very faithful to this one but I think it’s shot better. I’m a huge White Zombie fan too, and they’re on the soundtrack, so maybe that gives me bias lol I honestly don’t see how someone could like Escape From NewYork and not like Escape From LA though.
Fun reaction, you can be now called Nickel. 😜 I recommend another John Carpenter movie "They Live" no Kurt Russell but I think you will still enjoy. "The Thing" is another Kurt Russell and John Carpenter team up but I'm sure others have recommended it. Did you know that Kurt was typecast as a Disney actor before Carpenter took a chance on him in this? True story.
@PennyisWatching try Kurt Russell in Overboard, Shoulders and a Christmas movie The Christmas Cronicals. Kurt has alot of good movies. First time i saw him was in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes on Disney in the late 60s
Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies (not my favorite of Tarantino tho, that would be Reservoir Dogs), but I've never watched any of the Saw movies!
@PennyisWatching if you really want to go hardcore, check out the 2008 French version of "Martyrs." A terrifying movie because it's almost certainly real.

Nobody notices Lee Van Cleef...another national treasure...
But Penny did recognize Harry Dean Stanton ("Brain") as "someone from Alien". You have to give her that!
@ExtraSqueaky true...

@johnrob3215 YES! Dawn Marie is of my top 3 with Jen Murray and Popcorn In Bed 🍿🛌🏼
The wrestler who fought Snake Pliskin is called Ox Baker . He was famous in the eighties for the heart punch.

I was 10 the year this came out and first saw it when I was 13 or 14. It has since become my favorite movie ever.

Another GREAT reaction Penny ....always analytical and hilarious in your own special way😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great to see you, Penny. I enjoyed your reaction to a favorite 80s movie.
Kurt Russell is a national treasure.
Fun reaction Penny, your commentary during these movie reactions is outstanding and oh so funny at times!! I look forward to the next one regardless of what it is.
The president is a famous actor called Donald Pleasance
Somehow, I didn't recognize him from any other movie! But considering I haven't watched many classics, I'm not completely surprised
@@PennyisWatchinghe was awesome in John Carpenter's "The Prince of Darkness."

🍿Loving to watch this epic movie with you Penny & everyone else.
Well done Penny another great episode of Penny is Watching. 👍
Got to love that old Klingon proverb about revenge being a dish best served cold. It's really hard to go wrong with John Carpenter especially when starring either Kurt Russell or Donald Pleasence (who played the president in this movie)
"Airforce half" 🤣🖤
You are absolutely correct. Harold(Harry Dean Stanton) played Bret in Alien.
I am almost sorry for the "Airforce half" joke. Almost.
@PennyisWatching lol You shouldn't be. It was the perfect balance of wit and cheesiness.
This movie, like Big Trouble in Little China, is another great John Carpenter masterpiece. Check out The Thing and Prince of Darkness. Lots of fun.

Might want to catch Escape From L.A
Yes, Airforce 1 is a good movie 🙂. Great reaction as usual, thank you.
This was movie was part of my first date with the woman who later became my ex-wife. So my feelings about it are mixed. Glad to see your reaction to it!
Love this movie and your reaction. There is a sequel - Escape from LA - it's not quiet as good, but it has a great cast and it's fun.
Nice reaction to a classic.
Escape from New York, nice. 😁

He's like...the very last person I'd think of as a Disney actor! Very happy for the Kurt Russel we ended up getting!
@PennyisWatching Same
@PennyisWatching try Kurt Russell in Overboard, Shoulders and a Christmas movie The Christmas Cronicals. Kurt has alot of good movies. First time i saw him was in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes on Disney in the late 60s
Ah ha I love this movie. Thank you
@12.55 he could be the president of the toilet 😊😊😊😊😊hilarious
Penny, the dude of NY is the voice of chef on south park
OH MY GOD how did I know recognize him!
Happy Halloween🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
If you like unpredictable movies, then I'd go with either "Pulp Fiction" or "Saw."
Ernest 😥Cabbie
Somehow, Small trouble in Little China doesnt sound as exciting 😛
So, you weren't born yet in 1988, and you were in kindergarten in 1997. So you were born in 1993?? That would make you about 31 years old.
Now, can you give us you first pet's name, the name of your first grade teacher, and the last 4 digits of your social security number? :-)
Detective Tiger, you almost got me. Almost. Close enough but wrong 🧐
