- This is an introduction to the Vanilla modular synthesizer by muSonics.
The Vanilla synthesizer is a wholly contained modular synthesizer in 5u/Moog Unit and is inspired by the original Oberheim SEM and Two Voice models. As shown, it has normalled CV/Gate, two oscillators, a multimode SEM filter, two Attack/Decay/Sustain envelopes each with built in VCA's, and an output mixer. There are many points of overdrive and distortion in the signal path, which I think is a great thing.
You can think of this as a modular "best of" modular Oberheim SEM!

VERY FLATTERED. THANK YOU!
Sounds fat.
Nice work! Sounds Great!
Well done, sir! *genuflects*
Incredible work! I love these sounds. Literally music to my ears, even music to my soul!
This is absolutely rad!
Such a beauty... sounds as good as it looks !
Agreed. It's truly a piece of art, handmade by a true craftsman. The knobs, the jacks, and the whole thing feels like a musical instrument in a way I haven't experienced before.
Wow!! Yes, please. Ordering.
....Awesome! Don't forget to drop my name! You're not going to regret it!
@@Manmademadman I will drop your name, Thanks. Your sounds are awesome!!
Very nice instrument, both soundwise as esthetically. ❤
A modulation question though, out of curiosity: apart from S&H is there a way to ‘sync’ one of the LFO’s to the tempo of an inbound gate (for instance coming from a sequencer)? I honestly do not know if this way of syncing was all that easy to realise with 70’s circuitry. Most of the times, tempo based modulation seems to have been done with an additional CV output on the sequence, back in those days, no? Or by resetting the LFO via a gate, combined with a manual tempo synchronisation.
It's not possible to trigger the LFO's (either one) with any input. I haven't found a way to fake this either. It was more important to me to get the S+H clocked from gate, which it now easily does.
@@Manmademadman nice NAMM presentation with SonicState by the way. Loved it. It is truly a beautiful instrument. As an hommage and in its own right.
In some ways this also reminds me a little bit of an EML 200 mixed with an Oberheim SEM. Extremely versatile with beautiful build and sound. A classic out of the gate! (pun intended)
True! I didn't know this before he educated me, but the envelopes on the original SEM are the same as minimoogs, while the vca's and filter is different of course, hence the difference in sound.
cool!
It's REALLY good and fills lots of gaps in the market. Excellent craftsmanship from an incredibly talented genius!
This is the real deal!
Definitely! This synth has everything an Oberheim fan could want! And I am an admitted synth snob and a tough critic, but A+!!!
Great way to get into modular! How much?
The first batch are around $2500, depending on the wood case. After that, prices will increase.
You write in your video title, as well as in one of your tags, "muSonics" (like the muSonics Minimoog I have from the 70's), but I read "MooSonics" on the system you are showing. Could you please explain?
He's going through a rebranding right now (fka Suit & Tie Guy), and he's calling all of his new synthesizers the muSonics brand. Its a smart idea, IMHO.
MooSonics is muSonics' budget line. I hope that clears up the confusement.
@@Manmademadman I see. Thx👍
@@suitandtieguy I didn't know the brand muSonics was still alive. Cool. I wish you all the best with your new projects(s).
@@batchas thank you. I am so delighted to be president of America's oldest synthesizer brand!
