Academy Award® winning screenwriter and filmmaker Dustin Lance Black sits down with GLG's Head of Public Affairs Richard Socarides to discuss his writing process, When We Rise, and tips for commercial and critical success in Hollywood.
Best known for his work on Milk (2008) and this year’s When We Rise, Dustin Lance Black began his career directing documentaries and commercials. He was a writer and co-producer on HBO’s Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated Big Love and earned a “10 Best of the Year” award from the American Film Institute for his screenplay for J. Edgar (2011). Black has served on the board of the Trevor Project, which works to prevent teen suicides, and is also a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER).
