mt cook , lake pukaki, tekapo area is my favourite in NZ, I have been to most places of this country, i don't know why I love the Milky blue lake so much!!!❤️
Good morning both, love the “Jump to 🛸🚀 Hyperspace” @ 2:29 to dock at your “Sky-Lab”, brilliant 😎. Time stood still for all of us (7:28) the road to Lake Pukaki lite by a shade of cotton candy pink contrasted by the S-curve, can’t wait to get out there when borders re-open. Thank you both for putting a smile always at breakfast ☕️ 🙏🏻🙏🏻. Btw Peter, good recovery @ 7:08, didn’t get your jacket wet 🤔
I am SO looking forward to watching this video! Gutted for that bad weather that hit you at the start! Whoa that SkyLab certainly is pretty cool; reminds me of one of my favourite movies Apollo 13 and hope your mission in the capsule is more successful! When do they make you weightless in the capsule! Oh heck Peter, you had to fall in that cold water didn't you? Haha! Yeah some amazing views there and yeah the colour of the water and sun reflection and that church there, just stunning views! Cheers for sharing!
@@PeterandYen Certainly is an amazing movie! yeah I love the CGI blockbuster movies, many filmed and made in New Zealand of course! Ah glad it was just the gravel! Haha!

I'm falling more and more in love with the South Island, everything there was breathtakingly beautiful! I really enjoyed this video, thanks again for doing what you do guys, keep up the good work.
I cracked up out loud... Y: You've got pink ones, purple ones.. P: So many colors.. Y: 2 colors...but yes... 🤣🤣🤣 In my head I was thinking I see two....and as I heard myself think that I hear Yen say "2 colors" and for some reason that made me crack up by myself.. (probably scared my neighbor) Man, that water color was aaaaaamazing!! As soon as the video started with you guys saying there was some bad weather...I thought, oh man, that's gonna make for some beautiful clouds and skies as soon as the skies open up a little... amazing amazing amazing... I know the camera doesn't do it justice, but man, it was still amazing to see...thanks guys!!! Every location out does the one before it 🏔🗻🏔🗻 Just breathtaking...
Right?? Hahaha 😂😂 normally when they're in full bloom they're all around Tekapo and near that Church of the Good Shepherd.. from photos you see blue ones too and all the varying shades but yea.. just the two in our lil sparse patch 😂 still made us happy to see it though! Soo cool ay.. looks amazing and so vibrant! Sometimes it's more a milky blue at lake tekapo.. extremely gorgeous lakes in that area 🥰 I think you'd love the south island of NZ in particular. You can go do the crazy hikes that we don't have the stamina for 😂😂
Never get tired of watching your videos. Looking at the food portion, it's enough for me and my wife. We have small stomach 😅😅. Now the planning stage for our NZ SI trip is at the end of April 2025.
Glad you enjoy our videos! Haha maybe split a dish between the two of you 😆 good luck with your planning. We love the South Island.. so many beautiful places to visit 🤩
Overseas at the moment but have been thinking about making another trip to the south island. Our first set of vlogs from the south island were all from winter 😊
Look forward to your video every Sunday morning and love this one . I have passed through Tekapo on the motorbike many years ago . It was a heavily overcast day and the lake colour was reflecting onto the clouds . Amazing . Didn't get to see Aoraki / Mt Cook , so really looking forward to next Sunday when you take us there .
When we stopped at Tekapo a few years back it was the middle of winter and the water was dead still reflecting the moody sky. It was the most amazing evening watching the sun set over the water ❤ lake tekapo is a special place. The Aoraki vlog is gonna be a good one 😉🤙
This air bnb tops the list! OMG🤩 I would be seriously so excited like Peter. Price wise is reasonable too. In Australia that would be like $500 a night haha
Yes: Catch you next week! LOVE your vlog, and what a joy to revisit so many places I treasure. This place is FULL of memories both glorious and bitter-sweet. I'm not expecting you to climb to Muller's Hut at Mt Cook (Aoraki!), but I did when I was young and foolish. What A Place! just the best for soaking in the mountain landscapes and sheer grandeur of it all. Calling them 'Alps' is spot-on!
When we were at the info center at aoraki the nice lady recommended the climb to mullers Hutt. Though we didn't attempt it this time around we will definitely be back in the future and most likely try that when we're back 😅 suckers for punishment. Glorious and bitter sweet how intriguing 🤔 😁
I may have to order Japanese food for lunch or dinner today! It’s my favorite cuisine! Beautiful and breathtaking sceneries, especially on a clear and sunny day!
Mount John Observatory is another great place to check out in Tekapo. Hope you made it to Fairlie Bakehouse while you were there. Some of the best pies in New Zealand.

South Island is really amazing place on earth! 😍😍 Snow capped mountains, turquoise water and picturesque view, that’s what I remember from our last trip. It really translates to your South Island series too 😍 Yummm Japanese food, can’t go wrong with high quality NZ salmon cooked in teriyaki sauce 🤤
Yes, there is lots of beautiful places in the South Island. I am lucky, I grew up in Southland originally although now live in South Canterbury, but have traveled lots throughout the South Island. For every place that is well known there is a couple which are hidden. It is those "hidden" gems which are priceless. I could write a book of all the beautiful places and most are within easy reach, you just have to know they are there because in most instances they are not advertised or sign posted.
That opening shot is absolutely astonishing! Oh my god! Peter is the best at finding the most unique and wonderful accommodations!! You should do a video of the top 5 most unique Airbnbs. Those are thistles. 🤣😂. You definitely from Auckland. 😊. A pest plant, but you can eat the "nut" in the centre of the flower. Just like a small artichoke really.
Spent a lot of time in this region it is my mothers favorite area :). I should point out since you have taken this video. The Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, now has a rather large fence around it and Gates. Simply to control the "tourists". It is an active church and people were just walking in doing what they wanted whenever regardless of what was happening. Maybe a wedding or service. To help control that aspect of Tourist behavior there is now a wire fence in place. It is not a large security fence as such but it is there just the photos didnt really show it ( Not sure when this video was actually taken ). The lupins :) personally I love the lupins and think they are wonderful. Sadly the local council does not seem to agree and there has been bitter debate between those who live there and the council. As far as the council is concerned they are "weeds" and they had (not sure if still do) a spraying program to get rid of them. I seem to recall there was a compromise reached but cannot remember now. I am sure someone will know. You used to be able to drive along the Canal roads (yes they are private roads owned by Genesis Energy) but sadly in the last few years they have been closed off for the most part. Simply because they are privates roads and NZ's hellbent attitude to liability and OSH. The owner of those roads had no choice but close em) Some stretches you can still access but not all. The milky blue water color is due to glacial action. You should NOT drink the water. The color is caused by the movement of the glaciers moving against the rocks and grinding up the rocks. The water is very cold. Another really lovely video Peter and Yen and thank you for sharing it with everybody :).
Thank you for sharing all the insights Greg! Yes, such a beautiful part of NZ 👍 Hmm we don't remember any wire fence around the church.. this video was from the end of Jan this year. Maybe they only put it up when there's actually a service on? We heard about how the pretty lupins are considered weeds essentially there too! It would definitely be a tricky situation to control. Hopefully they'll leave some areas with it still because it really is beautiful when in full bloom!
@@PeterandYen Maybe they have taken it down, afterall we dont have the tourist numbers we did have.. To be honest has been a while since was last up there so anything is possible :) It was never a massive fence it was more used to help control the numbers. The roadways sides used to be covered in Lupins for miles and miles... For sure I can understand the councils stance, afterall it is technically a weed / unwanted plant... But, in saying that it also adds to the attraction of the region and especially when they are in full flower so very lovely and such wonderful photographic spots..
