saw Nick this week in Seattle (Scary)... he appeared to LOVE this band - with him and Jack Conte having so much fun. His playing was stunning - met him afterwards - super nice guy too.
Just saw Scary Pockets last week, and had no idea who the lineup would be. Needless to say Nick was on bass, who until then I was unfamiliar with. I'm hooked, if I could play half as well I'd be happy.
Yep, Fender Musicmaster Bass with the original pickup replaced with... something. And looks like a Jazzmaster pickup added on the bridge side. Nice sound. Proves you don't need a monster long scale bass to sound nice. Sounds like flatwounds here, although he uses both, depending on the sound he's going for.
I've been trying to figure out what pickup that is for weeks now. I've seen it used on guitars as well. I'm not sure who makes it, but I'm curious as hell. if you find anything out, let me know.
@@jrockn77 Same... looks like a P90 to me. The bass is a musicmaster, which originally used a 6-string guitar pickup - but not that one. Sounds killer. EDIT: I think it is a Jazzmaster. It's definitely a 6-pole and not adjustable like the P90s, now that I've done my research.
@@theonetruestickman yeah, definitely looks like a Jazzmaster pickup. What about the other pickup though? The Gold/Orange one? It looks like gold foil but has pole pieces ;( what is that lol
@@IcyShroomZ I honestly thought that was orange sponge in the void where the original pickup used to be... if that's a pickup I have no clue. Could well be gold foil, but doesn't quite look like any I've seen yet.
@@theonetruestickman found it in the meantime ;) it's a goldfoil pickup by Curtis Novak, he offers them with different colours and materials, ain't cheap tho..
@@jeffmusicman11 well by your logic, why have the two lower E and A strings at all? Just get rid of the E and A strings and put in a high C and a High F strings. Then the bass could not only have a better chance of competing with all the other high ended melody instruments but the high pitched bass solos would sound "better".
@@JesusChrist5000 Because you use the entire instrument, that's why it was made that way. My god you are dumb. Piss off somewhere else so we can enjoy this man's great playing.
@@jeffmusicman11 Precisely. as you said "you use the entire instrument, that's why it was made that way." So why are all these bass players only playing in the upper register? Also you use the phrase "piss off". What are you, a limey?
so criminally underrated.
Nick plays awesomely. I knew him through the latest Pomplamoose videos and he always gives such amazing performances
I'm so glad there's not a limit on how many times you can watch a video on RUclips... cause I would've used all my views on this solo.

An extraordinary bassman ~
amazing bass solo, this guy is good
I saw Scary Pockets play at The Roxy last night and while it was all over-the-top excellence, Nick stole the show!
Just found you through Scary Pockets and I can't get enough of your playing!! Hope to see you live sometime!!
mad licks on them strings! i need more!
Real nice
Tremendo solo amigos...
Nick is an alien .. that's the only explanation I can come up with for his unearthly talent! ... it's either that or a hell of a lot of practicing 🤪

It's not fare for us ! We're only human here !
So so so good! His playing is great! Isn’t that a music master bass? Sounds like flatwound strings:)

Can he repeat it?
Is that a Jazzmaster pickup? :O

No one plays bass in the lower register anymore. Bass players these days are saxophone or guitar player wannabe's.
Siri- give me a dumb and ridiculous musical take.
By your logic why have the two high strings at all? Do better.

No one chugs hardcore riffs in the higher register these days. Heavy metal guitarists are just bass guitar player wannabees.
