Listened to MWM (‘MUST-hear weird music for dark times’ and ‘weird music for 2025’) with my wife for over an hour earlier. She is thrilled and wants to subscribe to the channel. And once again I realise how lucky I am to be married to a woman who has a similar taste in music like me. After all, women who listen to this kind of music are very rare.
I wish I had 1/10 of Markus Reuter's creative energy. Got a signed copy of Tonnen van Hall to check out over the weekend. Clip sounded great. Good video for inspiration to partake in the Bandcamp fundraiser thing Friday 7.
There is a nice podcast (unfortunately in German) with Markus Reuter talking to Reinhold Heil. All the other former podcasts are great as well, but this one took me back to my teens and teens listening to Spliff and Nena while myself making some music in a band with schoolmates. Anyway, listen to Markus Reuter's podcast!🎶🖖

I came to Make Weird Music via Panzerballett. Brilliant live too. Wonderful to hear such astounding musical proficiency put to such remarkably bizarre ends.
Thanks a lot for presenting this ! I don't know about others, but I do only listen to dark music when I'm in good shape and ready for a challenge in tough spiritual areas. During feeble days I think of/listen to "silly" happy-go-lucky music
You could easily do a follow up part 2, 'Dark music for weird times'. This was so good, so much great new (to me) music out there, I need to get exploring Bandcamp again. I've always loved Cheer-accidents' Introducing Lemon, Autumn Wind and Find are phenomenal, I'd highly recommend Fear Draws Misfortune too, also, if you love a good laugh, check out the intro to 'The Butterfly Effect' off the "Babies Shouldn't Smoke" album, it fits your channel to a tee. And finally, being partial to female vocals I'd like to recommend 'A Formal Horse'. Thanks for doing what you do.
Wonderful selection! Zs is a great pick, they're always pushing the envelope on weird/abstract noise music without being totally inaccessible. Charlie Looker (from Zs' original lineup) also leads a band called Extra Life who is really worth checking out IMO.
I LOVED this channel. But now the weird reality overwhelmed my imagination. Now my heart beats for creative, but soothing sounds. Like Stereolab or Bruno Pernadas. Until a stroke (or a Stauffenberg moment) may stop the Yellowface Volcano and save the victims. Please excuse my poor English, I'm German. It hurts to see history repeating it's darkest pages. May the Force be with you ;-)
Once more through the Hypnotron I hurl myself , the master regroover washes my brain til i am electric and unable to remember my chores but to create, Thanks again.
quick list check and this will get my day off in a positive, inspired and hopefully productive day! great selections (the ones I know, that is) excellent work getting great art in the air!
Loved the Massacre track, need to buy that CD. Some suggestions for the March list: Pere Ubu - George Had a Hat Mitchell Froom - Tastes Good Jon Hassell - Chor Moiré Snakefinger - Kill the Great Raven Ryuichi Sakamoto - Neo Geo Xiu Xiu - Clowne Towne Tuxedomoon - Atlantis
ha ha bathtub 1 brings on a flashback! acid in a bathtub i noticed as i pulled my arms above the water the different sizes of drops and the variable distances created real water music. it was totally spellbinding the rhythms and the different sizes had me washing melodies all over my body. it was the extreme kind of immersion composition! lol fun ended when the water got too cool
Jerseyband! Saw them a number of years ago and they were awesome. If you said one of the band members was pushing to get a song played, can you tell them to release a new album already! :D
many years ago my best friend (non musician) agreed to listen to our latest. before i hit play he said "but you cant stare at me while i listen..." just telling a funny story it means nothing
excellent list! meh first you squirm until your nervous system processes and incorporates, from then on discomfort becomes blissful well i do have synasthaesia and music is linked to all my senses YMMV it makes you strong like bull!
Love Monika Roscher‘s music too. Also her older records are great. She‘ll be with her big band again playing at Zappanale in summer 2025 in Bad Doberan, Germany. Plan to be there and hear her and other great music playing bands.
I tried to find the Flesh Quartet by their name in Swedish, Fläskkvarteten, on Bandcamp but no go. They may have retired. It is a band probably dating back to 80s if not 70s. Not sure if they are still active. Saw them in a short, but great concert in Oslo in the 90s.
Mattias Reisbergs Mining's "Ping Pong" sounds like a dark, twisted Gentle Giant. The pace and tempo of the track reminds me of "Proclamation" from "The Power & the Glory".
I really enjoyed the first track ! Do you know if they are using Chapman stick or something like that?? fascinating textures! Oh wow . Track 2 is pretty weird I liked the intro riff and then ooh boy ! the vocals have vocoder like Paul Masvidal from Cynic !! ( I LOVE CYNIC ). I’m guessing you know Cynic ? If not , one of the most beautiful mixes of jazz fusion and death metal ! Microtonal djent pusher is a hilarious thing to call someone. I thought it was gonna be some standard modern metal stuff but then it went rather dissonant . I do like it , will listen more . Thank you so much for sharing !!! The weirdest thing I can share is Sukekiyo which is the solo band of kyo from Dir en grey ( wonderful prog metal band from Japan 🇯🇵. One of my favourites of all time) The track name is Houmonsha x . It’s weird experimental metal music :)! The vocals may be in Japanese but personally I donn’t mind as I am learning and speak Japanese . Also it’s a beautiful language phonetically and works so well for vocal melody writing ✍️! Rock on 🤘 ruclips.net/video/kn-U0I_T_rA/видео.htmlsi=xSvoozRWug1tGEYL
Microtonal Djent pusher! LOL! Try out *Oh No Darkness!!,* a Japanese alt rock band from Osaka. They are deliciously weird, combining the bass player's oddly pitched soprano voice with a variety of instrumental backing, mostly guitars and drums, but also synth and electronica. Japan gave them good press leading up to 2020, but they've struggled since the pandemic.
Amazing selection of absolutely awesome music! My today's favorite from your list is perspective “Year Two”. The cover art for Antlitz is already super dark and heavy. Am I hearing a little bit of Gustav Holst in there are is my mind playing tricks 😛
I don't know if it's on purpose, but maybe they'll reply
Agreed 👍 Chord progression from Holst's Planets Suite - Mars.
It's not just you, I heard the same thing! Definitely shades of Mars in there.
