    My cat's name is Hrothgar, so when you spoke about Beowulf he perked up and trotted to the screen to see who called him

    Excellent video and information. Apparently some of the viewers aren't impressed, but I think you did a good job in the presentation. More video of the buildings' interior would be nice in the future, but that will have to be later. Skal from Vinland!

    Sale is the old English version and is found only in placenames now. Hrothgar is the old English version of the Norman French, Roger. Both from the Germanic original. Saga is found in English as the word, ‘saw., still used as an archaism today.
    The English House of Lords is divided between lords temporal and lords spiritual, like the division of this hall. Once upon a time, the Palace of Westminster had the king and his nobles and clergy beside him. What eventually evolved into the kings bench.
    Be well 😊

    Flott og informativ film!
    Er det mon tro tilfeldig at flere av gravhaugene i parken er omgitt av mjødurt, eller kan dette ha vokst der helt siden Viking-tiden - sånn at de gravlagte alltid skal ha tilgang på mjød?

    • @midgardvikingsenter7646
      @midgardvikingsenter7646  4 года назад +3

      Det var en interessant observasjon :) Det er dessverre vanskelig å vite hvor lenge mjødurten har vokst rundt haugene, men det gjør sikkert de som er gravlagt der glade :)

    the mead hall was simply replaced with the Pub. They served the same purposes for a millennia after the "fall" of the mead hall culture. Gathering, drinking, celebrating, political alliance forming, all took place in the local village pub.
