3D-animation of Tissø in The Viking Age

- The Visitor Center Fugledegård situated at the west bank of Lake Tissø has in collaboration with the research project 'pre-Christian Cult places' at the National Museum of Denmark commissioned a 3D animation film visualizing the royal complex at the time around 900 AD.
The 3D animation is financed by Visitor Center Fugledegård in cooperation with the research project 'pre-Christian Cult places'. The animation is produced by the Norwegian company Arkikon.
At the Visitor Center Fugledegård has just opened a new exhibition 'Royal seat and Cult place - Vikings at Tissø' that visualizes the archaeological remains and the functions of the large royal residential complex.

The Vikings are much more important in history of the Europe than we want to know. They founded Russia!!! Some words like gorod (gård), city are stil remaining...
In English, too, like the sufix "-by" (Derby), knife, husband...
I think that Visigoths and Goths are from today Sweden, and thay played very important role in making history of Europe, especially after the Roman empires fall.
Wonder if it might be a sysselkonge (sub/under-king), or jarl (earl) we are dealing with?
Just as in ex. England and Ireland, then Denmark had one or more overkings, in this case in Denmark called drot(e) (sometimes sharing the power, and note that the kings back then were elected, and mostly just served as warchiefs, ex. in case of invasion), and it seems several under/sub-kings that by the end of the viking era was called jarle (earls).
Just for the isle Funen, then one of the sagas tells us that about 10 petty kingdoms existed, with the largest one being in the northern part of the isle ruled by an earl/sub-king.
Denmark had by the end of the middle ages 4-6 "lands" depending on how you cut it up, meaning it had 5 thing sites, assemblies where the kings were elected, and where people brought cases, pleas etc.
Prior to the viking era we have another term, Syssel, a land area that in older times often held an entire tribal federation, and just from Jutland we know of 14 such, where some of the oldest in northern Jutland have names after tribal federations known from antiquity, such as the Vandals, Cimbri, Teutones etc.
Zealand either during the viking era or early middle ages after that, got about 4, while the isle Funen etc. were considered lands in their own rights (at least After the viking era)
By the end of the viking era and parts of the way into Nordic middle age, then we know that some of these former tribal nation lands now collectively 2-3 together was under just one earl/sub-king, before the lands during Nordic middle ages again was divided into smaller units under local lords (herremænd, hertuger) that again divided some of their land up for their knights (riddere).
Another somewhat smaller land division was herreder (related to the English Hundred perhaps?) were some might be older than the viking era, and others made in early Nordic middle ages.
There were about 200 of those in Denmark, and they reflect how much land it locally took to feed a small army, and my guess would be that if this local lord were not a sysselkonge, then he could be a ruler over one or more herreder.
Just to note it, then a further old sub division exits in the form of sogne (means the same as parish, but not always reflect same type of land area).
There are about 2.000 of those in Denmark, and since the local church for these often stands in the place were the older hov (heathen temple) once was, then it might to some degree reflect the borders of the local older chiefdoms, or older local minor tribes.

There is a mistake right in the beginning of the narration. There was no “Russia” around 900 AD. There was Kievan Rus'. And the Grand Duchy of Moscow appeared only at the end of 13 century.

There's different types of hemp. It's not all one plant and not every strand has THC. Most likely it was used as a grain for bread or made into cloth
Really cool. I love looking at history. Thanks. Did you know....in the US the American Indians had long houses for winter. And little round top huts for summer. Like that period of time for all humans. Sami have like TP huts also.

Seriously study what hemp is. There's more uses then just cannabis weed that's usually from the leaves. Hemp is not the same as cannabis there's different strands with different uses. It's a seed similar to grain

Wool sails? When wool gets damp, it gets heavy, so probably not made of wool.
They have found little pieces of sails of wool and linen. And what other material could they have used?
Hemp...but most Viking sails were indeed made of linen or linsey-woolsey (a blended fibre)
Minor point, but paths do not jog for no reason. People will create paths using the least distance between points, and do not make bendy paths for no reason. Like I said, minor point. But if there is evidence for a jog, then the why needs to be looked for.
In the huge archeological dig at Uppsala in 2005(?) they found paths that made a bend around a farmhouse. That continued to bend that way for a thousand years after the farmhouse was long gone and bends the same way today if i remember correctly. I pick this information from a book a journalist wrote about the finds in the dig, "En försvunnen värld". Im not really contradicting you, i just remembered that little tidbit when i read your comment.
