There’s even a rumour of there not being a “Black Ranger” episode because he wanted to have that be the finale title where Dillon is discovered to be a Venjix bot & final villain from the beginning, and for Tenaya to have been a red herring. So then she would have gotten her morpher and became a ranger, as said in the panel. It would have made 10 year old me CRY but I would have also kinda loved it

In my opinion, this series coulda been a great send-off to another variation of rangers, perhaps in an alternate world. Of all the Disney Ranger Teams, Jungle Fury was probably the closest thing to the old school rangers team that we had, but RPM suffered from Disney preparing to write off the whole franchise instead of trying to figure out how to get kids attention to the show again. I would have made it so the next ranger team was the children of the first 2-3 teams and that they got their powers in different ways and good it from their parents. That way, you could re-introduce this generation of PR fans to the original generation.

  • @landonsantini365
    @landonsantini365 Год назад +40

I was probably one of the few people at the time who was aware that this season was out there and happening, mostly because I searched fan sites that chronicles this stuff and kept track of air dates. The now defunct Linear Ranger website was one of my favorites to go to before he retired during the airing of the revised Mighty Morphin' in 2010. I did watch it and I enjoyed what I saw. The downside was that in the area I lived, the show aired at six o'clock in the morning. As a result, I only watched about the first 13 or 14 episodes before giving on "Power Rangers" because I was getting tired of waking up that early and it was the summer before I would officially be starting High School. I did manage to catch the rest later thanks to early era RUclips.
I realize it's probably a moot point now but a part of me can't help but wonder whether or not this season would've been a ratings smash had it been left in it's old Kalish Era time-slot of Monday nights at 8 o'clock when Toon Disney made the switch to Disney XD. I'd like to think the ratings would've been at least comparable to S.P.D. I remember early on they stated that Disney XD's mission statement was to air content specifically targeted towards boys aged 8-14. It sounds like "Power Rangers" would've fit right in with that demographic. Not to mention one of R.P.M.'s motifs was of race cars which I was under the impression that most boys loved. Eddie Guzelian was right. Disney foolishly set aside a gold mine.

I think a handful of channels who've dove into what happened to Saturday Morning Cartoons may have solved the main problem that Disney had with Power Rangers. While RPM was the only season that aired exclusively on the ABC Kids Saturday morning lineup, it was the only show that ABC Kids had for years where news episodes were on their block before they aired reruns on cable. They'd had one or two other shows over the time that the block existed, but mostly leased packs of episodes of other Disney shows from the Disney Channel. Except, one day, they straight up just stopped ordering new episodes. I think it was upwards of three years that the only show ABC Kids aired new episodes of anything was Power Rangers.
How those cartoon lineups had worked, for a long time, was that a specific group who leased the episodes of shows for syndication subleased time on Saturday mornings from the public channels & these lineups were run almost like their own little channel. One of those RUclips channels that did a documentary on the matter figured out that whoever was in charge of ABC Kids had a falling out with Disney because Disney was charging too much for their shows. Power Rangers was cheaply made, cheaply leased & was technically created by a separate company from Disney, Buena Vista Studios. Disney owns Buena Vista, but I guess they couldn't control the price of that show. So, Disney decided the only way to fix the matter was destroy ABC Kids & replace them, to entirely cut out the middleman. Unfortunately for them, whatever contracts were set up regarding the production of Power Rangers in the first place single-handedly kept ABC Kids running until the edge of when streaming services slowly began to rise up as a new market competitor. Ultimately, Litton showed up, subleasing equally cheap educational shows that had an easier time appeasing the FCC & took over almost every single public station, squashing Disney's plan, while the increasing move of audiences towards streaming kind of also made the entire matter obsolete.

Like you, I also missed RPM during its original run(prior to Samurai the last series I watched was Jungle Fury, and even then I only ever watched a couple episodes because of how they would air it early in the morning.)and only watched many years later. It's definitely my favorite Disney era series and my favorite of the franchise vin general.
This video does a good job illustrating how baffling Disney's treatment of the franchise was in retrospect, especially given how they're hellbent on milking the MCU(another long running superhero franchise) as much as possible.

MMPR was the only thing from my childhood that was as big a phenomenon as TMNT. People that are younger have no idea how big MMPR was. With that being said I quit watching as I aged out at ab the 3rd season (or which ever season they dropped the original costumes bc they ran out of Sentai footage).
About 5 or so years ago I got the urge to check out where the series was & looked up where to start/best seasons & one of them was RPM. After watching RPM & a few other seasons I was honestly shocked by how good RPM was.
My current ranking of thos I have watched is:
    1. MMPR 9.5/10 For suit & zord designs & heavy nostalgia
    2. RPM 9.5/10 For the story. Loses the .5 for having to use extremely goofy Sentai zords. Hate the Megazord. If I'm being honest this series is much better than MMPR, nostalgia feels just can't let this be #1
    3. Time Force 9/10 For the story and Villians.

I can personally attest to not knowing about RPM when it came out. I was in college when it was on, and so TV in general was just not something that I had a ton of time for, but even online, RPM was not even talked about the way Dino Fury was this year. Barely any cast interviews, no fan interaction, and no ads for it on TV. But I managed to catch the episode, "Ranger Green" on Family Channel, which, at the time, was a combination of Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel here in Canada. And, unlike with the seasons prior to RPM, I actually saw the RPM toys at stores around the city. Mostly at Toys 'R' Us, but after MMPR: The Movie came out in 1995 finding Power Rangers toys was hit and miss as to whether stores would even carry them here. RPM just happened to be one of the seasons where the toyline was carried here. And like you, I only discovered just how great RPM is after the Shout! Factory complete season/series DVD sets came out.

I think Disney had the best run with the Rangers. I was growing out of PR when RPM came on, but I rewatched all the disney ones and Light speed when i got netfliX. I hope the new show they are making has more of a serous vibe cause when i tried watching PR samurai when i got older it was bad due to the actor or red, and just the annoyance of the green ranger. I think they are taking more of a kid approach now cause even the ones after samurai it just seemed like they don't care about the production anymore. Who ever has control now does not put as much into bad guy costume designers as they used to.
The only other thing is PR samurai and Dino charge had the 2 hottest pink rangers i had ever seen on the show, besides AJJ.

This just adds more fuel on why I hate Disney as a whole , especially todays Disney but looks like they were franchise killers long before Marvel and Star Wars. I watched Power Rangers since the beginning of MMPR as a kid to Mystic Force. I ended it at Mystic Force cause that show just had all the elements of my childhood in one. It reminded me so much of Young Hercules, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog , Harry Potter and more. I came back to check out RPM and my god that show was amazing, I kept tabs on Operation Overdrive and Jungle Fury but it never held me. RPM was just a whole other show in general, and its one of my fav series next to In Space, Time Force, Wild Force , Mystic Force. PR was suppose to end when In Space was around, maybe going forward they should say PR is ending every season so we can get actual good seasons again cause ever since Samurai came out and then they started skipping some sentai, its been downhill since. Jungle Fury is okay, I havent finished but the stuff I hear about Cosmic Fury, not even adapting the suits of Kyuranger and it only being 10 episodes long, seems like they have no idea what they hell they are doing. Could care less about the Netflix series, and I dont like Hasbro. I just went and rebought my favorite seasons on DVD thanks to Shout Factory. Im content that what I grew up with in the 90s to early 2000s, cause all my franchises today, is dogwater.

What I don't like about RPM is their zords and megazords because of their designs and for me was the worst of all in 2000s but it was the 1st Robot combination with 12 zords or 4 megazord combination beating the Power Ranger Ninja Storm Hurricane Ultrazord (unless your not counting the minizords) that was only thing that amazes me.

I agree. I feel Power Rangers can learn from Power Rangers RPM. RPM is my number one favorite Power Rangers series because it’s so feel refreshing and aimed for young adults despite being an TV-Y7-FV and this series that is Power Rangers RPM will actually make you forget that this is a kid’s show. This proves that Power Rangers is willing to take more risk of it being more-matured in tone despite being an children’s series. Like from MMPR-Turbo, light-hearted fair enough, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and Wild Force proves to be a bit more-matured in tone, while the Disney era did try to have an more-matured tone, which is mostly SPD and RPM, with parts being with Jungle Fury in it. This is something that I wish Haim Saban understood that Power Rangers needs to be taken seriously, but make it fun for all ages at the same time, if they wish for Power Rangers to be mainstream. I’m just saying.
Power Rangers RPM proves to break that trend and is willing to be different compared to any Power Rangers series, which I wish that Power Rangers could do that a little bit sooner or later. I’m just saying. I’m not too worried about that!
Although, I do give credit in an positive way that Haim Saban did have faith in adapting the Super Sentai series and giving birth to the Power Rangers franchise.

    • @Alex-db4jp

I agree. I also wish that Saban understood that or maybe learning and being influenced from Power Rangers RPM and the best Super Sentai stories in order for Power Rangers doing their own original storylines and being more creative, and being a bit more-matured in tone despite being either TV-PG or TV-Y7. (Which I feel like Power Rangers can maybe benefit with an TV-PG rating despite airing on Fox Kids.) But I understand realistically in an Bussiness perspective, which I won’t go into details. But I’m just saying about Power Rangers, nothing negative towards anyone that is the cast and crew of the series. I respect them all!

I saw it once and only once. Saw the sliver and gold rangers at 6 am scribbling with crayons and did not see enough to understand what I was looking at

I will never get over how people will complain to these companies about how they should shut something down because they think its too violent or they don't lie something

Based on the bit at the end about Gem, Gemma and Flynn... Yeah, Gem and Gemma must be based on Cercis and Jamie Lannister xD

damm disney really hated power rangers suprised jungle fury was gonna be the last season originally I sometimes wonder what kind of world that'd like to live in probably wouldn't be too bad since jungle furys a really great series but i'm glad they got one more season out. RPM is easily one of the best seasons of pr it just does so much right the episode Dr K is imo the darkest pr has ever gotten imo like damm

I wish that Disney would've stayed and produced until super megaforce. But Saban made super mega force, the worst season of pr. They just focused on quantity, not quality unlike Disney.

Also when RPM was aired it was on a channel call Toon Disney but it was changed to Disney XD so that channel canceled it and it stayed on ABC Kids. Also New Zealand had an Earthquake that time when RPM was filmed that's why they didn't filmed a new Season Team with new Ranger Suits a year later.

As stated in the video, Disney had already decided that the year after RPM would have no new production. They were more than finished with the franchise at that point
