I am a white southern male from NC. I've been around almost 80 years. I can tell you from personal experience that I have been insulted and discriminated against for being just that, or nothing at all. I have received this abuse from people across the spectrum. While in Quebec, Canada, when sitting at a food counter, a couple moved away from us because we were speaking English. Also in Quebec, a restaurant employee said they didn't have decaf coffee, which they clearly did. Not just in Canada, but everywhere. While in an elevator in Chicago, black people smirked and rolled their eyes when they heard my accent. Children can be cruel to each other. Does this make me angry at Canadians, or black people, or children? No. This is a NORMAL thing to experience. Life is not fair. Being a victim makes yourself one. Quit whining, get over it, and get on with it.

I took Spanish in school, but just read a book on French verbs, and picked up a little advice from my wife. I love France.
I'm a Latino over the road truck driver and have visited 46 of the lower 48 states and in 8 years I can only think of 3 instances where someone's rudeness might possibly have been due to racism, then again they could have just been jerks. But other than that I'm always amazed how nice and pleasant most people are. I've been in areas where I'm the only POC and have not felt intimidated or out of place. Many times total strangers will stop and talk to me about my bulldogs as I walk them. There are racist for sure in the US but they are the minority in this country. In 2008, white dominant Iowa, from where I live, elected an African American, Barak Obama with 54% of the vote. 2012, 4yrs later a second time Iowa elected Barak Obama with 52% of the vote.
