Model number 648 wasn't sewing right on the thread was loose. So, I gave it a deep cleaning, put new grease into the gears and oil it. Still needs a felt custom in the metal area, to get rid of the knocking noise. Pretty easy sewing machine to use.

don't put grease on gears. it deteriorates them

On older sewing machine you need to. The metal parts will rust and cause jamming. Or on rubber gears cause dry rot where the gears teeth break apart.
