  • Hey y’all! So I recently purchased the Das Keyboard 6 Professional Keyboard and could NOT find a review or unboxing video before hand, so I decided I would make one of my own. A quick unboxing and “review” video just showing the basic features of the keyboard! If you have any questions feel free to let me know in the comments! I use my keyboard on a Macbook pro most of the time and it works just fine!
    Here is the link to the exact keyboard I ordered, should be on sale!

    Thanks for the no-nonsense review. I've been looking at the 6. Originally had a dash 4 ultimate and really enjoyed the slickness of the blank keys. Had that keyboard for years. It broke so I accidentally replaced it with the professional version. I really hated seeing the keys on that keyboard. So when I was looking at the 6, I was hoping for faceless keys and they didn't have it so ended up getting another 4 ultimate. The 6 is definitely a nice upgrade with USB ports however. Oh also I think the ruler was much nicer as well.

    It would be great if you presented the keyboard in action ;) 15 minutes of how it looks but and nothing about how it sounds and how good are the mx blue switches;)

    Don't really care about the cable being braided but a lot of premium cables come with a removable USB cable nowadays. Kind of a deal breaker for me. Just found out the keycaps on my 4 are ABS plastic which means the paint has worn off and they're getting that slick glossy feel now. Wish they'd go with the more durable PBT plastic keycaps. Also, just saw another video showing that the switches are soldered instead of quick swap. Not very convenient if you ever want to change them out for a different feel. Just my criticisms. Still a good keyboard but I wish they'd keep up with the industry trends a bit more.

    • @DarthTommy

      I didn't know they were ABS, they should definitely be PBT for the current price point. But I still really love the keyboard either way. I ordered some custom PBT key caps and should be getting them this week. And yeah that would be cool to have removable switches. But for people like me it doenst make a difference because I wont ever change from the cherry MX blue switches. I like the click feel and other switches dont entice me.
      Fair points, but aside from the key caps I'd say it's pretty high quality.

    I like the almost everything about this keybaord. But think I'll be returning it. That ping sound after pressing the keys or tapping the side of the keyboard gets annoying. Really shouldn't have that kind of issue on such a pricey keyboard.

    Hello. I’ve been researching keyboards for weeks & keep coming back to the Das Pro 4. Now that it’s been a few months, thoughts on the 4 vs 6? Anything you like better about or miss from the 4, or do you find the 6 to be a significant upgrade? Thanks for posting this!

    • @DarthTommy
      @DarthTommy  Год назад +2

      I use my desk a lot for 3D printing things etc, and I noticed that the 6 is a lot smaller than the 4. So that has been a major thing for me, the bezel is quite a bit smaller, so it opens up a lot of surface area. Also all of my tech is USB C, so having the USB C ports has been so convenient for me. Between that and the backlit keyboard I don't miss a single thing about the 4. It was a great keyboard, but I'm so glad I upgraded. I would definitely recommend swinging for the 6 just because it's a newer model, and everything now comes with USB C. That way you won't have to use adapters for all the new tech you buy.
      And No problem! glad people have found it useful!! Luckily I am happy with my purchase, but it would've been nice to see an unboxing beforehand haha

      @@DarthTommy Just had the Das 6 Pro in my cart & about to pay when I realized I wasn’t ordering the “for Mac” version. I looked for the Mac version & not sure how I a missed that unlike the 4, the 6 doesn’t have a model made for Mac & in fact, the 6 keys have windows icons. 😩 A quick google search seems to say you can program the keys for Mac??? Any input on this issue. I’m very hesitant to pay $200 for a keyboard w/o Mac keys. I don’t have the know-how to swap out keys. Would love to hear your thoughts as now I’m thinking I should just get the 4 Pro for Mac. Any knowledge of a Mac version coming out? I’ll probably reach out to Das. Argh!!! Thanks for your help. 🙏

      It's on sale right now for $200 with 2 day shipping. I don't think there is a mac version for the Das 6 for mac specifically. I use mine on a mac 90% of the time and everything works just fine. It doesn't have windows keys on it, it has the Das logo.

    Is your 4 blue switches too? I just ordered the brown version and already wondering if I should have ordered blue. I do have a Logitech MX Mechanical with blues but......

    • @DarthTommy
      @DarthTommy  Год назад +1

      Yup, both are MX blues! I’ve always liked the feel and sound of the blue switches.
      Maybe you’ll like browns!

    • @BookClubDisaster
      @BookClubDisaster Год назад +3

      @@DarthTommy In the past I've liked blues better too but I thought I'd give browns a try on this board as they are slightly lighter so might work better as an all day work from home keyboard. I have a feeling I might end up returning it for blues! Do they feel heavy or light? That can seem to vary based on diferent keyboards.
      Also I'm in the same boat. I've bought a few RGB Keychron and Nuphy keyboards over the last year as they seem to be getting all the hype these days. A couple were really nice but I never felt at home because I think their target audience is 1. Gamers. 2. Keyboard tinkerers/modifiers. I'm neither. I'm an office worker by day and writer by night. It just feels a little weird working my government job with an RGB rainbow keyboard! I'm realizing I probably should have opted for keyboards like Das since they actually seem to be marketing to my group.

    • @DarthTommy
      @DarthTommy  Год назад +1

      @@BookClubDisaster let me know how you like em! Cherry switches are great all around so I don’t see why you wouldn’t. I like the feel and sound they make lol
      But yeah! I don’t like the whole RGB thing, but I did want a light up keyboard! And the white is perfect. The colors are just too much for my taste.
      I initially got the Das 4 when I gamed a lot but it turned out to also be a great gaming keyboard. But I think you’re right the das professional series are definitely targeted more towards offices than for gaming. I don’t game anymore, and I really love this keyboard, it’s just nice and solid. And the USB C ports were a requirement for my new keyboard, so this one was perfect. Once I get the new iPhone, literally all of my tech will be USB C now.

      @@DarthTommy well ended up keeping the blue. I should have known. Always prefer blue. What I like best about this keyboard is for a full key travel mech keyboard it's relatively low profile. And it's fairly flat. Just a slight downwards tilt. I can't stand keyboards that are too tall or so sloped that you feel like you're typing uphill.

    Do you miss the Das 4 PRO bezels? Do the smaller bezels on the 6 create some discomfort when typing?

    • @DarthTommy
      @DarthTommy  2 месяца назад +1

      I don’t miss it at all! I have a big mouse pad and need the extra room on my desk frequently, so I don’t miss the bezel at all. I didn’t realize how much room the Das 4 took up til I got this one!
      Still going strong and I still love it!
      My ONLY complaint is that it comes with ABS keys and not PBT shot keys. I did replace the keys for some awesome blue and black PBT shot key caps.
      And no, no discomfort at all without the bezel. I’m a software engineer so I type a lot and haven’t had any problems at all.

      @@DarthTommy Thanks a lot for your reply! I ordered a 6 PRO. Excited to try the keyboard out.
      Yes, the ABS keycaps are disappointing. But as you mentioned in another comment, I can just order PBT shot keys online to replace them.
      If you don't mind, I have two more quick questions:
      1. Do you have to keep the software app running to use the Das Keyboard 6 pro white backlight?
      2. Do you have recommendations for a non-gimmicky professional mouse? Maybe the MX Master 3S?
      Thanks a lot again!
