The cleaning you suggested, finally did the trick. Solid clean light is off! Pressure goes in the espresso range although not to middle of the range, but I will fiddle with grind amount and size. Thank you so much. Was discouraged by 2 prior cleaning and 2 descaling procedures with no effect. Glad you replied to me, otherwise I would have given the machine up for dead. Now I will descale regularly along with cleanings. My machine was an earlier one and did not have “descale” sign below the “clean me”, so I didn’t realize I needed to descale.
Hi..Great demonstration on how to descale the Breville Express. Thank you. One thing I noticed was the water filter instructions state to soak the filter for 5 minutes and rinse with fresh water for 30 seconds, before placing it back. Cheers I throughly enjoyed watching your demo.

Hello AJU cafe, it was really nice video explaining de-scaling and also difference between de-scaling and Clean in another video. I do have few questions. 1. Can we do cleaning and de-scaling at same time ? 2. On what basis this 2 steps needs to be done ? When signal is on or indication light for each of the steps ( both clean and de-scaling ) or on a regular basis both cycles needs to be done ? Thanks.
1. You can Clean and Descale one after another in one go. Descale is done using Descale powder and Clean is done using backflush and cleaning tablet. Don't mix them. I'm doing a video on this soon to show the different cleaning products. 2. You can do clean cycle once a month and descaling once in 3 months. If if u are using the machine a lot then reduce the frequency. You don't have to wait till it indicates
Aju, I am new since mothers with my machine. I followed all your steps after reading the manual. Turned the machine off, and when I turned it on again, theclean/descale light continues on. What should I do?
Thanks for the kind words. Tablets are for backwash i.e. to clean GroupHead and tube for backwash drain. You use Cleaning tablet when the light blinks.

@@verdysir Ye the Descale procedure is the same. In your case, 1. the CLEAN light would be solid ON, when it's time to DESCALE 2. the CLEAN light would be BLINKING, when it's time to CLEAN backwash Hope this helps. But there is nothing wrong to DESCALE and CLEAN whenever you feel like. i.e. even if the CLEAN light is OFF.

No. Cleaning powder or tablet should be used only for Cleaning cycle. Descale powder or solution should be used only for Descaling. You should never mix. It can be any brand.

My Sage BES870 has no descale print below the clean me print. It also features the newer claro swiss waterfilter. So is there any way to determine if it is the 1st Gen or 2nd Gen? And i assume id desclale anyway. Greetings
It is 1st generation. The very first ones don't even have an adjustable top burr. Do you have adjust burr in it? Yes please do manual Descale regularly.

E.g. the tall, slim claro swiss filter was introduced with BES008 version around 2018 ish?! but still is 1st Gen? How come? But i am almost sure it has to do with the region of sale regarding what features are provided/left out breville/sage etc. even the manuals tell different in different languages. Greetings

No worries. That's because your machine is first generation which doesn't have Descale mode. Your machine is written "Clean Me" only right (on the single or double cup button)? Is it during Extraction? If yes then you are under extracting. Make sure you dial in with finer grinds and get pressure at 1 o clock mark. It will sound much better too

If you have both Descale and Clean written and still you are not able to get into Descale mode, then make sure you plug off the cable and plug in again. Make sure your machine is OFF when you enter descale mode. Press double cup button fraction of second before power button. May be your sync is slow.
This espressos machine makes great coffee, but finding parts to replace is almost impossible, the biggest down side, if your machine solenoid fails there is no where to be find, even Breville itself will not sell you one, so you lose $600. I got the Breville 870XL, and is useless I can't find the part for it, and this machines are common to fail in about 2 years of service. I would NOT recommend this espresso machine to anyone

No need to use filter if you are using RO. No harm in using it, no harm in removing it in your case. Its meant to filter tap water.

Far easier and better to dissolve the dezcal into the water in the pitcher and mix it up there. Then pour it into the machine.
