    I came up with many proposed reconstructions for Megalodon but here's 2 of them:
    The 1st one is a gigantic Salmon Shark, and 2nd is a more muscular Great White Shark with proportionally larger pectoral fins. I'm with the 2nd option but I think the 1st one is also a good option.

    I sometimes make fan arts of documentaries that denotes to the Pliocene to Pleistocene period like Ice Age Giants because I wish they made an episode about prehistoric sharks like Otodus Chubutensis

    • @TidewaterTeddy
      @TidewaterTeddy  3 месяца назад

      I definitely relate to that. That's one of the reasons why I made this documentary! All the non-Megalodon Otodus species seem to fall to wayside, but they're all really cool, too! I'll have to make some more documentaries like this one. Animation is very time consuming, but I'm working on ways to speed up the process. Thank you for your comment!

    To some Megalodon is Carcharodon,to some it's Otodus/Carcharocles. Megalodon's genus is such a controversial subject because we don't truly know what genus it belonged to.

      Some scientists like Michael D. Gottfried argue Great Whites descended from Mega-Toothed Sharks, mainstream science argue it was a descendant ancient Mako Sharks. We sadly don't have many remains to be sure or even collected DNA lol.

    What's the difference between the otodus Megalodon and otodus chubetensis ?

    • @TidewaterTeddy
      @TidewaterTeddy  5 месяцев назад +2

      It's mainly just the teeth. Chubutensis has cusps on the sides of its teeth while Megalodon does not. Scientist believe this suggests that chubutensis may be a transitional species between earlier Otodus sharks (which had noticeable cusps on their teeth) and Megalodon. I have a picture around 06:50 that shows the difference between a chubutensis tooth and a megalodon tooth. Here's some further reading: www.researchgate.net/publication/331458878_The_transition_between_Carcharocles_chubutensis_and_Carcharocles_megalodon_Otodontidae_Chondrichthyes_lateral_cusplet_loss_through_time

    This is good and I like it, but I'm not convinced it's completely accurate. For example, I'm not convinced that baby megalodon actually ate their siblings while in the womb.

    They have some carbon dated teeth supposed from the Meg as early as 12k years ago

    • @TidewaterTeddy
      @TidewaterTeddy  Месяц назад

      Hi, thanks for your comment. So those Meg teeth you’re talking about are from the 1873 HMS Challenger expedition. In 1959, they were erroneously dated by zoologist Wladimir Tschernezky. He argued that the accumulation of manganese dioxide on one tooth’s surface indicated that it had been deposited within the last 11,000 years, while another tooth was given an age of 24,000 years. However, scientists have since debunked this claim.
      Here is a good article about Megalodon and its fossils: journal.media-culture.org.au/index.php/mcjournal/article/view/2793

      Hi, thanks for the comment. Actually, that's not 100% true. The macroraptorial sperm whale known as Livyatan would have definitely challenged Megalodon in the Southern Hemisphere. I talk about this at 11:38. Also, there are multiple theories for Megalodon's extinction, including great whites and orcas eating their babies. I discuss this at 12:02.
