What a great surprise! I wasn't expecting a new video until after tax season. You guys made my day taking time out of your busy schedule to post this. Thank you!
Been home for a couple of months recovering from foot surgery and found your videos. Been watching enough that I feel like I know you guys! Lol! Glad I found you! I have dreams of owning a Carver one of these days. Hope to actually meet you guys someday!
We love our Carver 355. It is funny. We often meet viewers during our travels and everyone know so much about us, yet we know nothing about them. It makes for interesting and fun conversations!
We haven't got around to fixing it yet. I was planning on looking at it this weekend. We were close enough to home not to worry about it since the batteries charge when docked and when the generator is running.
I took the alternator to a local repair shop and they said it has a bad regulator. I had it repaired. Cost was $200. I installed it and it seems to be working. Voltage rises from 32v to 36v as I rev the engine. We also found a spare alternator hiding behind the water pumps in the generator room!
Lynn, great catch on the low battery indication. A lot of people wouldn’t haven’t noticed it.

It's the watchstanders job to notice it. Why do you say people wouldn't? I say maybe a few wouldn't see it but most would. You don't earn the right to cruise on a yacht by being a moron.
Nice video. Subscribed and I’m enjoying the content. Ocean Annie’s brings back great memories when we used to stay at the Sands Ocean Club for golf trips.
We have stopped there several times. Saw an outdoor concert last year. Looked like most of the town was there. I am sure we will stop back again this year!
Such great shots of Charleston! It’s too bad you didn’t get to see the market during the day. My wife is a vendor there and it looks so much different when people are around.
New tattoo Capt.? Hadn't noticed the art on your left forearm before. Love your videos! Love the fact that you and Lynn are just regular people, no pretentiousness. What I like to call (affectionately) Joe and Mary six pack.
We both got "henna" tattoos to see how we felt about it. We both got two Sparrows, to symbolize the 10,000 we put on the water. We were disappointed when they wore off. Maybe real ones this year!
Hope you enjoyed Myrtle beach? Been there many times myself, good food and drinks.really enjoyed your video,Thanks so much for sharing your adventures..
Time for a rebuilt alternator. The voltage regulator probably when out. You can replace them, but getting a rebuilt one is a better way because something else is likely to go out soon on the old alternator. Ocean Annie's looks like a good place for dirty old men to hang out. HA Good seeing you head off shore more often and getting out of the ICW. Fun to watch when it's 12* outside and the snow is on the ground. Come on Spring.
I am taking the alternator to a rebuild shop tomorrow. Hopefully it goes well. I have found a few online if the rebuild is not possible. The fact that it is 32 volts makes it more difficult to locate, or repair.
hope you guys can soon do a great lakes summer run ,, im from Port Huron area and in summertime there is crap tons of festivals along the old ship building villages of the great lakes,,, including the great race from Port Huron Mi. to the Island of Mackinaw in July , boat week there is great times. The summer speed National boat races in Green Bay, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Duluth and Toronto areas. Great festivities all over the Great Lakes. Hope you guys consider it,,, summers on them fresh waters is great. Would make for great videos no doubt.
A good volt meter is one of the tools I would never leave home without! It would be so easy to troubleshoot this problem with a meter and the know how to use it. I agree with the others the first thing I would check is the battery voltage withe the engine running it should be in the neighborhood of 14.2 volts with and operating Alternator. If lower than 12 volts the diode pack would be my first suspect after ruling out continuity of wiring. From the alternator to the battery! There are lots of things to consider a bad contractor. The point is with a meter you can if you understand how to troubleshoot you can save a lot for beer and wine! 🤣🛫
I do have a meter. We were close to the end of our trip, so I put it off until now. The batteries are charged by the charger in port and the generator underway. I checked all connections and they were good. I plan to do some trouble shooting this weekend.
Would like to ask your opinion about Hatteras 52 '94 (I have my eyes on it) - that had some blisters on the hull for a year ago that was repaired - did your yacht had the same issue?
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, we had some blisters. Still do. From what I have been told, all Hatteras have them. But I have been told they are not really an issue because the hull is solid, with no core, and very thick. The next time we have a bottom job done, in about 3-4 years, I may have the bottom soda blasted and fix the bigger blisters. Mostly to remove the weight of 40 years of paint.
Lands End marina , Buss’s Roost , front street , the light house these are my stomping ground . I’ve live here all my life . My dad work at international paper for 42 years ..... yeah the smelly place .. but we call that money in Georgetown.
Although the Alternator is the likely culprit, there are a couple other possibilities. You have a relay between the Alt and the Batts, check those connections and make sure the relay contacts are clean. Also, a bad cell in one of the batteries can prevent that bank from accepting the charge being sent from the Alt.
Thanks for the tips. I was planning on working on the problem this coming weekend. I did not know there was a relay between the battery and alternator. The batteries were a bit low on water but the battery charger still charges them so I ruled that out.
Alternator failure normally is the diode trio failure. but today no one wants to sell cheap parts to repair. They make more money off R&R part! Sad it most likely is a $5.00 part!
Yup, I guessed the diode pack too. Maybe our editor-in-chief is having a lottery to see who has the right diagnosis - since she left us hanging high an dry?
I know little about alternators, other than how to replace them. Did that plenty of times as a poor kid with beat up cars. I am planning to trouble shoot the problem this coming weekend. Fortunately, it seems to be a common alternator if I need to replace it or have it repaired.
@@tryingnottosink9107 ED~! IF you have a mechanic's stethoscope you can put it on the alternator to see if the bearing is still good. It's a cheap tool you can find on Ebay or whatever, and since you have that whole engine room and all those bearings to take care of.........It's just a marvelous way to isolate/identify noises in any machinery - even in a noisy environment. So, if the bearing is still good, you might be able to get the diode pack. And, even if you prefer to get a rebuilt or new one, you could keep the old one as a spare. The last alternator I bought, went bad in ten miles, and it was a GM/AC Delco OEM, not a no-name.
For video, I would say it is when we were in the Bahamas last year. Especially around Staniel Key. As for fun - we always have a blast in Key West! However, we really have a lot of fun not matter where we are. That is the great thing about the boating lifesyle. The people are fun and interesting, the scenery is incredible, and the parties are every night!
We love Ocean Annie's! We stay in the condos about 5 or 6 buildings north of there. We have had our family reunion there the week of July 4th for the past 20+ years now. We got married on the beach there on the 4th too! Love the live music at Ocean Annie's too. Did y'all get to walk out on Apache Pier? It is the longest pier in S. Carolina. Meet us there this year the same week and I won't say a thing about your Trump 2020! Just kidding, I know better Lol
That was out first time there. We had fun, and the bands were good. We have never been to Apache Pier. Perhaps this coming year. We will be there around July some time.
@@tryingnottosink9107 Apache Pier is directly to the north walking distance from Annie's. I think it is $2 to walk out there. They had a building out there for music but not sure if it was rebuilt since the hurricane. You can see all the sharks swimming around the pier too. Hope to see you out there the week of July 4th Come celebrate our 7th year anniversary with us!!
Its called a boat. Break out another thousand. Its great when everything is working but unfortunately in boats there always something. I know this too well!
It is always something. My list of things to fix before I leave on the next trip in May has about 10 things on it. Nothing too major. The worst is we want to replace one of the heads with something more modern, and that works!
@@tryingnottosink9107 I know the feeling I just had to replace my fresh water tank that was a major endeavor as it was leaking and is located under a bed in the second state room. Thanks for watching. We are trying to release a video every two weeks during tax season.
Nice views of Charleston, great to see some great shots from the waterways. Thank y’all so very much, I really enjoyed it!!
Thanks for watching! We are glad you enjoyed the video.
The shots along the icw are my favorite 👍
Love watching these videos and seeing you guys go right by the Marina our boat is in.
Thanks for watching!
“ That’s scary” your face was awesome!
Excellent Videos!!!! From Jersey (Burlington County) right across from you
Thanks for watching. We used to take the Carver to Curtin Marina often.

It's funny how you guys find someplace that plays music no matter where you're at lol.
It is one of our favorite things to do, and a main reason we did not do the trip this year. No bars, no bands, and locked out of the Bahamas.
