You made it look so easy, well pastels are forgiving, so I'm hoping for the best, I have some of these materials on hand and this is one I'm going to give a try.
This is superb! I presume you discovered you had a talent for art at an early age? I've tried to draw and paint many times but I never seemed to get past the beginner phase. It's an ability I so admire in others but alas something I could never master. Please keep posting. I really enjoy watching the magic happen.
Hi Robert I started to draw at the age of 13... loved it and still have the same passion. Keep persevering and connect to your heart and the ability will developed natural by itself. The more we let go of control the more the art seems to evolve naturally. All the very best... thank you so much for watching my videos means a lot to me. 💕🙏
Hi Dave. Just wanted to encourage Robert as I only began believing I could draw at the age of 57 and am now beginning to sell my pictures and exhibit. What you say about letting go and believing in your heart what you’re doing is so true. Also the more you practise and the more you watch other artists also helps. Keep going Robert.
Hi Jean... thanks for the support. 😊The hedgehog Tutorial will be my next Patreon 4..5hour video. Will be on there around the first Wednesday of December. I will list all the colours on screen and in the description as usual. Take care Dave 😊🙏
...to add to previous reply Jean, I have copied and pasted the list of colours from the description content of this youtube video for now. *Faber Castell Pitt:* Warm Red 118 Cold Red 127 Yellow Ochre 185 Lt Yellow Ochre Mix 103 Lemon Yellow 106 Lt Ultramarine 143 Dark Ultramarine 151 Olive Green 173 Dark Green 174 Brown 176 Burnt Sienna 188 White 101 Outline Grey Pencil 273... Hi Ruth... I use Pastelmat as it stops most of the dust as the pigment clings to it. I don't spray with fixative as it dulls the work too much. If I am storing them I wrap them in glassine paper or I frame some work under glass with a mount.🙏
Hi Pamela, this method works best on a sanded surface like the one I use which is Pastelmat dark grey. the pigment will cling to the Pastelmat surface and stops there, so you can add pigment over the top, (glazing) to change the overall colour. It is done very lightly. 🙏
@@DavePortersArt I see what you mean. It is technically more 3 dimensional than a photo. Especially in paintings with some thick layering. They say the original Mona Lisa looked like it had mountains when viewed across the surface of the painting.
@@BukitMan It is surprising what can be done with values and edges... a little softer here and sharper there... I find the chroma is most important how some areas glow more than others. Fascinates me. That's interesting about the Mona Lisa. 👍

I have found the surface you use is so crucial. I like Pastel mat... but any sanded paper would work. All the best with your pastel journey Michael. 🙏
Wow!!! Amazing !!!!

Your hedgehog is stunning! What sharpener is best for Stabilo pencils?
Thank you Debbie... I sharpen my pencils with a knife... please refer to portraits for beginners video... I visually show to in that one. 😊🙏
My favorite animal
On of mine too... thanks for watching 🙏
Is the paper essential?
Hi Anty, I have found it to be the most important. I use Pastelmat, it is magic to work on... worth the expense. 🙏🙏
Do you need to spray it with a fixative?
Hi Ruth... I use Pastelmat as it stops most of the dust as the pigment clings to it. I don't spray with fixative as it dulls the work too much. If I am storing them I wrap them in glassine paper or I frame some work under glass with a mount.🙏
Thank you .. what if I used it in my card making? Should I use a fixative then?
Someone please explain what he means by "glazing over".

Well if you didn’t want to make it look like a photographic replica. You failed. 😂
Thanks for the kind words 😀 I try to work towards making it look like it is there, rather than a photo copy 🙏
