It only looks better because there's only one, very short "fight" scene in the whole anime (maybe plus that dodgeball one, which didn't look as good though). Animes that you're comparing it to probably have to do longer battles at least once every few episodes, so they simply lack in budget and time.

The thing with the animation is that it only looks simple. But every shot has so much careful detail in it, and the characters' movements are very fluid. Its style is simple but the animation certainly isn't lazy. I've seen anime where the style is super complex, but the actual animation is usually just static shots with mouth flaps. Digimon tri for example. Outside of the digimons' fight scenes, the animation is boring, even compared to the much lower budget and stylistically simple original.
