  • In this video I went around Full Sail University interviewing students on their current living situation. This college does not have dorms and students do not seem to care too much because you can get your own apartment off campus.. trust me it's way better this way!! If you enjoyed this video make sure to hit that like button and subscribe for more!

@@anotherfilmer Thanks for replying! I think that an apartment tour video would be wise. Preferably 2-3 apartments, the tour should show both single occupant spots and roommate dwellings. It would give a good perspective to most people of what to expect in apartment environments around the area.

Wow! These are great questions to ask people on campus since it answers a lot of our questions as potential students. You are a great host/interviewer and I hope you do more of these videos. Maybe a costs list of apartments, areas, types of getting to the campus, tips from other students, how to get an apartment with little to no credit score, where to find roommates if either on a website or on the campus with either housing or thru word of mouth, how much does a student need to make with a job to attend school and to pass the classes without extra stress, places to visit around the city of the campus, and how to eat cheap by not breaking the bank account.

Tanks for putting this together. My daughter is in the process of going to Full Sail. She has to graduate from HS first obviously, but she will be attending shortly after. My wife and daughter toured the campus last weekend and they found it to be really nice, like you showed here. The housing situation is a bit off-putting for me, but understandable, and since there are apartment options rather close, I am comfortable with that situation. But I would honestly rather have her within a short walking distance, so we don't need to worry about a vehicle and everything else that comes with that.
Regardless, I look forward to watching more of your videos and hope to see more on Full Sail, your experience and growth throughout the process as well as hearing from other students, both their good experiences and their not so good.

    • @anotherfilmer
      @anotherfilmer  4 месяца назад +1

Hey brother thank you for the encouragement just love sharing the experience for those who will come after me. When I was about to attend I also researched by watching students who were current students. As a young adult, your daughter will benefit way more from the experience of being able to have her own apartment rather than attending an university that forces all their students into dorms and randomly assigns roommates, where all that happens is partying and security enforcing a bunch of rules making it feel like a military barrack.
At first I also craved the typical college life experience, but going to Full Sail they promise a real world experience with industry standard equipment.. I believe this also applies with the housing situation as it allows straight out of high school students mature faster and quickly discover the reality of taking care of themselves with organization, scheduling, time management, responsibilities, and professionalism.
It is satisfying to know that the university allows the students to scrub through a list of possible roommates and read their biographies/about them in order to understand if they would be compatible with one another... or if personal alone space is more of a priority they also have that opportunity.
With this where applicable, I highly recommend if you daughter does not plan on having transportation; an apartment within walking distance will be the best option.. but also insuring it is within walking proximity to a grocery story (Walmart, target, etc.) and also near a public transportation bus route if she ever wants to jump on the bus to travel around the Central Florida area.
If possible.. get her a cheap form of transportation like a scooter or bike to make it more fun to get around. Many students ride around on electrical scooters and bring them inside the classroom to charge.
Depending on the degree program there will be times where getting around town in a vehicle is very much needed to collaborate on projects and class assignments. I also find myself leaving Winter Park almost daily for leisure and entertainment for things like: Church, Barber Shop, Mall, Downtown Orlando, Parks, Walking trails, Springs, theme parks, beaches, restaurants, Disney Springs, City Walk, and much more!

@@anotherfilmer `, Oh, she'll more than likely have a car while she is there. She's driving her mother's car now, and my wife and I carpool since I work on houses and buildings in the area anyway.
But thanks for the reassurance about the local area. Both my wife and daughter took a trip to Full Sail last weekend and did the campus tour and they also looked at a few of the apartment buildings in the area. They really liked the ones by some little lake in that area that was relatively close to the school. Maybe I'll get her a bicycle and someone will be working on their portfolio and chase her down and ask her some questions one day. 😄

@@reckonedyt so as an area the area isn't all that bad. everything you need is within walking distance of the school and surrounding apartments. if you are worried about living expenses, I would consider finding 2 roommates though, as apartment rent has gotten a little high, currently me and my two roommates pay about 700 each just on rent. thankfully rent includes internet but that's about it. electric and water are paid separate.
as for the program, be prepared for a lot to be thrown at you at once. Game dev isn't one of the larger programs, but it is definitely one of the most intense ones. for reference when I started on the actual game dev route, there was about 20 - 30 students in my same month program track on campus, now being where I'm at there are 4 campus students. Now granted, about 30-50% dropped the program after the first programming class as they realized it wasn't for them. but there have just been a lot of buffer classes that have caught others.
I don't say all this to scare you, more to give you an idea of how intense the work load can be for the program. The school does a great job at teaching you how to find out what you don't know, but a lot of the classes are very much sink or swim style. The teachers and lab techs will try to help you as much as they can, but it can still be overwhelming at times. You just need to be prepared to take that work load and do what you can with it. It's a harsh lesson that unfortunately some people never learn and that's why the numbers dwindle so much, so as long as you go in with the mindset of you are going to grind and get your shit done, you should be fine.

Hey thank you for stopping by I hope the video was helpful in understanding the housing situation for this university a little bit better.
Moving from Michigan to Florida is for sure a big move but also not an impossible journey. Pray about it and ask God to make the plan he has to prosper you be known more clearly for you and your family.
I have minimal experience with Section 8 as I've worked for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development doing custodial services for move outs in my hometown... but I did some research to try to better help you and I discovered a housing website: affordablehousing.com where if you select Winter Park, Florida and under filters at the top you select: Experience with Section 8/ HCV and search you will get a few results of complexes that will most likely have an employ that has experience.
I would say call those numbers with general questions regarding the living rules for the area and transferring benefits.
I would absolutely also call the housing department at Full Sail University and explain to them your concerns because they are very very good at accommodating you and connecting you with the right people. They helped me out A LOT with making the transition from the military to civilian side seem easy!

Money will buy you time to complete fullsail
I was there from when they reopened after covid 2020 like into 2021 and i was doing the whole homeless at fullsail thing till 2022-into 2023 so my experience is pretty recent
The state of Florida doesn't offer much help everything has a wait list because you have kids you might move up that list faster but how much faster is up for debate for me they were saying a 2 year wait for section 8 I wasnt gonna wait so I had to withdraw draw and finish online

Also wanted to say fullsail is going to Sweet talk you into believing your going to have so much support from the staff and teams at fullsail but the money that tuition money is paid they are gonna start acting dumb simply because there is A LOT of misinformation and miscommunication at fullsail
Full sail is more of ENTERTAINMENT trade school than anything else and depending on what your going for things might work better for you or not especially the networking I know for film the networking seems to be good for music as someone who made music for 10yrs before fullsail then came to full sail to find a much of people who literally seem to just be starting out from the very basics it's a waste networking wise because full sail likes to keep their students in their own little bubble music here film here this that there and there AND SOMETIMES A FEW TIMES WE WILL LET YOU network
If anything comes to Florida and do online still it's cheaper MORE FLEXIBLE the networking is honestly about the same and when you leave THEY MAY OR MAY NOT HELP you find a job is VERY VERY MIXED
Ultimately if you com to fullsail just be prepared to make everything happen yourself
Because after that tuition drops they not doing shit unless you get some clout there and get some high up people to like you they not doing anything outside of teaching you

Bass vibrating the apartment most hours of the day and sadly night, up to 3AM. most reports do nothing and the one I spoke to and we came to an agreement but the other person is a lost cause. Its not their faults, the building is way too thin with their walls where I can hear convos and dirty deeds getting done through the walls if my apartment is quiet. 2 Cockroaches spotted so far and my bathroom sink has micro bugs that come out of the facet when you turn the water on. I learned this when i was brushing my teeth one morning. Office called bug man and all he did was spray the floor lmao....... The bugs are in the plumbing. Litter is in the ponds showcased on Solis website and the AC units inside the apartments are a safety hazard for anyone moving from other states. They are slammed packed with dust and other particles a florida newcomer might not be adjusted to yet. I moved here months ago and I have not had a day I felt normal yet, 24/7 sick. AC makes a hissing noise regardless of getting it "fixed" 3 times now for the same hissing noise. @@anotherfilmer
