@@Noname12........641but In India it is not much profitable, these kind of films do not earn much at the box office. So producers make commercial action masala movies because they have more chances to become hit rather than focusing on acting or story.

This movie was a sleeper hit and was critically acclaimed. I still remember the director sitting and chilling somewhere back in the awards ceremony, wasn't expecting an award, then suddenly it won some big award and the director got surprised. His genuine reaction as he walked up the stage was really nice to see. This was his first movie, so it was a proud moment for him.
Ohh ... Is it? That's awesome. Those golden days when award shows were not staged.

This is exactly what was the scenario back then, still remember coming from school and watching news seeing serial bomb blast reporting in mumbai, at that point i thought this is normal and we are lucky to survive because we used to hear such news in every mobth or two.

Why doesn't Bollywood make such tight, under-2-hours movies more frequently?
Because such movies even though good don't do well at the box office. I used to feel the same way but people usually want to go with their families where there are kids or pre teens who'd rather watch stupid ass nepo stars doing dumb movies with dumb scripts.
So the real reason is money. Some gems like 12th fail come up luckily but most movies aren't that lucky.
@@thunderbull331 true bro, i would rather watch this movie on tv and now ott rather than in theatres. Going to a theatre is an expensive affair and people want to visit them for something larger than life, for a visual treat maybe. But my point even with the rise of ott we don't see movies like these, ott was good initially now they are just churning out crap.
That actor u cnt remember the presumed antagonist is the man who is called the the Robert de Niro of Bollywood if not less...

The first time I saw this movie was the Tamil Remake of it with Kamal Haasan being the Common man and Mohanlal being the Cop(Both Legends in their own right). Admittedly I didn't see the twist coming, but I could sense that maybe there was more to this story.. None of the bombs actually went off, I figured it was some kind of smoke and mirrors distraction and the movie was going somewhere else. Then, I got to know which movie they remade and watched this and again phenomenal acting by Legends of their respective industries. There are subtle differences in both stories while following largely the same beat. Kamal Haasan while going on his monologue, teared up and uses his pistol to wipe away his tears which IMO was such a powerful moment, which also showcased his mindset. I love the fact that after people realize what is happening, they are not entirely sure they wanna help catch the guy. You see them back-pedalling but it is unfortunately too late. This was a movie about the feeling of powerlessness that the common man faces against the evils being inflicted upon them, and all in the name of some misguided notion of a war. Also coming on the heels of one of the most brutal attacks to bring the country to a standstill, this movie was perfectly aligned to capitalize on the feeling.

One of the best movies of its time.
Well, this was the common scenario during congress party rule during 80's, 90's and 2000's. Only after Modi came into power, these type of incidents were curbed. Now, such incidents are limited to Kashmir(expected, due to involvement of Pakistan) and some jehadi lone wolf attacks in south. Even in Kashmir, the incidents have come down significantly.

This movie was original and it was also remade in tamil kamal Hassan and Mohanlal did the major role it was amazing movie as well
its called "Nehru Jacket", based on the style of Jacket that India's first prime minister used to wear. Dr. Evil wears it and also in the move Spectre Christoph Waltz' character as Blofeld also wears it. This is more of India Style of Jacket that many politicians would wear.
And you know om Puri sir in oscar award there was a condolence when on Puri sir rest in peace

This movie came in when terrorist attacks were daily occurrences in India. This one hit so many notes.
This movie has been remade in Hollywood with Ben Kingsley.
What I hate so much was the fact that just a few months after this mindblowing movie, the 26/11 attacks happened and it broke Mumbai.
And as we were told in this movie, we kept the only surviving terrorist in a 7 star prison cell with a fitness coach and all the amenities. Enrages me to this day

The music was good but felt sometimes off track. The reason is that the music director didn't know about the story and was told to create the music. The director took the already created music and put it during editing, instead of the other way.
