Only a genius guitarist cam play with a genius bassist. For a guitarist to back off and let the bass take lead, but still form amazing and brilliant textures that compliment. Absolutely genius. I am with you sir.
For serious, one of the weird/unique things about VanHalen is the guitar and drums play together and it's amazing the groove Alex and Ed have. Typically it's the drums and bass. What makes Primus unique is the drums and bass play together, but the bass is the 'lead'. At least that's kind of how I hear it/think about it. Anyway Primus Sucks!
I agree but I think he was wanted to tell the tale of a fisherman and the fish (John the fisherman and the ole daimond back sturgeon) the legacy among fishing songs
Ler tells us what's going on in the Sturgeon's little brain throughout the song on his guitar. He really gives us the beast's point of view. Eventually just quiet.
I seriously just landed a 50 inch sturgeon last week in the Columbia River and have been on a Primus kick since then. Les is a great writer and musician!
RUclips is fucked up anymore since google took it over. Sturgeons have been around a lot longer than humans, and they'll probably still be here after we're gone. Maybe one day, 7.5 million years from now, there will be sturgeons writing songs about fishin for the rare & elusive four stringed Claypool...
Cotton candy should come in black. I totally forgot this song for well over 20 years but hearing it tonight for the first time since I was surprised I remember the words as well as I did. Not perfect but close enough.
I fought a 70 pound diamondback sturgeon for about 50 minutes. Brought the beast in with my ugly stick. It was the first bloodworm i casted that day, second cast, same worm. So i love this song

You were a giant sir, and you connected so many different people together. I love you bubba. Rest easy ol'diamond back. Love, -Dandy #3
I love "Frizzle Fry" but "Pork Soda" is the zenith of Les Claypool & Primus. I know no other collection of songs with such a personal sound and such strange and freakish atmospheres. With songs like this "Ol' Diamondback Sturgeon" Primus disassociated themselves from everything around and composed a magical album, an artifact as absolutely unique as "Trout Mask Replica", "Bone Machine" or "Nothing's Shocking", to give three examples. For fine palates, only.
Had this cassette back in '93, and to this day, THIS song echoes in my head from time to time :) this one, and Mr.Krinkle! That video was weird ... I think even Beavis and Butthead commented on it once on an episode back in the day :)
Such a calm and soothing song by Primus, which is surprising because they usually are twangy and fast then slow hard slap picking and hard strumming solos, but I feel that this and the whole Pork Soda album was a great masterpiece. It seriously shows off a creative side of Primus, and is such a explicit yet mellow album. The fishermans chronicles will always be the most creative series of songs by Primus.
