    Actually enjoyed your content. Well spoken, agree with the most of your points regarding DLC. As well as didn't know few things like swapping output pipes of oil refinery. The journey to other planet was also entertaining and educating. Myself, I am 2 weeks in the base planet, making megabase kind of and also afraid of space lol. But you gave me courage! And also it will be beneficial because of space science to continue research. Thanks, man! Keep it up and I believe you will find more hearts that'll follow you :) Subbed

      I am thrilled to hear that you are taking the thorough approach to Nauvis! That infrastructure now will make it SO much smoother when you turn your attention to other planets! And I love hearing that you're having as much fun with this as I am having 😄 Thank you for the kind words and I look forward to seeing you around! :D

    One of the most useful new feature is reading content of all connected belt. For the platform, you can make a belt loop that reads all of the content, and then send a filter signal to the asteroid catcher thing to catch what is in demand.

      Sushi belts are SO back baby! That sounds like the perfect place to go nuts with them! I have to say that the circuit network has always been one of my favorite things, and now it feels like I can use it everywhere :)

      @@Phixfox make a video about the recycling / quality, im pretty confused, regret i did not use them in the early game, but since i knew that recycler can produce quality from scrap, it's a game changer.

      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      Good idea, i'll see what I can pull together! I went to Fulgora first exactly so I could recycle because Quality just feels so intriguing, and to be done right you have to have some rerolls and recoup losses. I just got to tier 3 Quality Modules, and it's coming together really nicely! :D

    Animation of space platform expansion is just crazy! I like the idea, that rocket requires less science, but I'm not sure if I like that less resources is needed - now rocket not really requires well functioning base.

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад +2

      Agreed! It looks SO good, which is saying something when the base game has had renovations and face lifts over the course of many years, making it pretty impressive that the DLC drop feels right at home amongst the stars! And you have a very fair point about needing only a jumpstart base to go to the stars. I think I need one full playthrough to figure out my opinion on the matter, especially since some key tech is locked away behind other planets 😄 What's your favorite part so far?

      I finally made it to a new planet and chose the scrap one, my space craft was destroyed above it now I have been try to build what I need to be able to launch a rocket off the scrap world, all because I did not bring enough ammo or electric engines for the trip, but into it big time, great game made even greater

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад +1

      That is so awesome to hear :) Are there any planets that you cannot land on with nothing and still manage to survive and get back home with? Like Aquillo seems pretty barren, do you get soft-locked if you don't bring certain materials to the planet?

  • @toml1652
    @toml1652 Месяц назад +2

    For the turret, you can set the ammo straight into the turret, don't need to feed it separately.

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      Looking at around 19:30 I have 3 turrets that are active in this rather terrible build, one doing direct insertion (the far right turret) and then I'm trying to supply the 2 to the top and left via a belt-fed system. I think you are indicating that we should do direct insertion for each individual turret, maybe having three individual smelters into three ammo assemblers? Or are we talking dropping ammo into the turrets from the space hub manually? Please clarify so I can know if I am understanding you right :D
      It feels like it's taking 2-4 magazines per asteroid, and there are SO many asteroids, meaning we need anywhere between 8-16 iron plates per asteroid, and I am super concerned because the amount of smelters that it will take to keep up with that demand leads to more space and more surface area and more raw resources etc. etc. etc.
      I wonder if the best thing will be to stockpile all ammo into the main space hub and then send it out on belts from there. It's messy but allows you to avoid the smelter bottle neck and keep things small. Alternatively, I need to test out quality smelters in space with speed modules to potentially fix the problem in real time, the only issue then being whether or not I will get enough metallic asteroids to keep up with the demand of super fast smelters (not to mention powering such juiced-up smelters).
      Long story short, I LOVE that this horrible, no good, rag-tag space platform was able to get us to another planet (difficulty feels about right) but that the optimization feels almost limitless (the absolute best part of Factorio imho)!
      Thoughts?

    • @toml1652
      @toml1652 Месяц назад +2

      @Phixfox sorry, I meant on the planet. If you go outside of your drone net work, plop down a turret ghost, open it and put in ammo and then save the ghost as a blueprint, you have a turret that gets ammo from drones. Works best when turret dropping with personal robo port, but is great way to help from map mode. Can also be done with vehicles, and then remote driven around. Just don't forget the fuel too.

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад +1

      Oh my, this is WAY better than what I had in mind! I only just found out that you could remotely drive the tank too 😅 Supplying ammo/fuel via blueprint makes the flexibility of the new blueprint system truly shine, and your method cuts out so much clutter to my work-around design. What an awesome tip you've given me, thank you!! ☺

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад +1

      All I want to do is make everything quality! But then some pragmatic side of my brain says, "a common blue inserter will do just fine instead" and then I sadly turn my attention towards something else 😂 I think at some point I will do a labor-intensive run where I try and make everything quality as soon as possible, but right now I do want to get to other planets :)

    I think driving tanks remotely is great for base defense on another planet. My walls have regularly spaced tank ports so if there's a breach I can just remote over and blast them

      @@Phixfox The other thing that I think was bigger than people realized is that you can use remote view to put objects in an inventory and your construction bots (not logistics) will carry the items. So for instance, pre-requester chests, I was super lazy and used that to top up my walls ammunition supplies if they ever ran low (click chest, click 6 stacks of ammo into it). E.g. if you need to build say, 60 pumps but don't want to put them all in your mall, put down an assembler anywhere, go into map view and open its inventory, press q over a slot to get a ghost-cursor of that item and click to place a full stack in that slot. You can output to a passive provider chest, or just delete the assembler once it's done to push them into storage if you're super lazy. There's also the thing with doing this to ghosts and blueprinting them that somebody already mentioned; idk how I feel about that yet, it seems like it might be too strong...

    • @matilozano96

      @@Phixfox yeah, and tanks have equipment grids now, so you can put roboports and use them to build and repair stuff outside of your regular logistics network.
      I keep a bunch fully stocked by my base walls, for example.

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      @@Kaiasky Wow, that really is awesome... you're concern about it being too strong feels valid, but then I wonder how else you can manage another planet (let alone two or three) when you are halfway across the solar system. Perhaps it is a necessary evil? BTW, we would never let being "super lazy" be what drives us into a necessary evil, right? 😅😂

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      I did see the equipment grids from the FFF's but I definitely didn't grasp this situation at all. I mean, this is game changing in a huge way, and I wonder about the pacing. By the time end game comes around (at least hundreds of science per minute) it feels like you've earned the right to ascend into all of the best tech and opportunities. Somehow, this feels like too much for how early that you get it... maybe i'm off base here and over hyping something that's merely really great? I am definitely glad it's in the game, it just comes so early!

    • @Phixfox
      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      Uranium ammo does make a ton of sense here, I am not sure where it falls in the tech tree though! I have to say that I love that lasers are not the best solution in space (unless you put a nuclear reactor up there?) and that mixing the tech feels optimal!

      @@Phixfox Yeah they are good for the inner planets. But the range is too short for those big boulders, only rockets can handle them, problem is loading rockets is a pain, you gotta make em onboard.

      @Phixfox  Месяц назад

      Hmmmm, seems like getting the explosives is an absolute headache then. My redesign only uses bullets, but at least on the short trips I don't take any losses anymore I am sure that going two rings at a time in the solar system will be way more than just bullets can handle as you say. Have you gotten to railgun yet? I have seen it in action watching others and WOW 😅
