- You have probably heard the statistic that 50% of marriages end in divorce. It’s a grim number, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping people from getting married.
Instagram is overflowing with photos of stunning weddings at exclusive locations, featuring couture gowns, and opulent parties. But, after the fairy dust settles, research shows that 72% of couples run into difficulty in marriage because they didn’t understand what a lifelong marriage really requires before tying the knot.
Today I’m joined by my husband to share what we’ve learned after twenty years of marriage. The good. The bad. The ugly.

Great great conversation. This gives me hope for marriage. Something is wrong with all of us. But being found and being found by an emotionally mature person that is willing to work through trauma is so important. Thank you for sharing and this platform. Yes 🙌🏽 part #2
🩷🩷
This was so good!
This year, I believe the Lord instructed me to prepare for marriage. I have been clueless about how to do so as a single woman. I’ve been praying that He would show me and believe that this video is one of the means for me to do that; to gain insight from others.
Thanks for your transparency. Can’t wait to watch part 2.
Some take aways:
1. Take the time to self-reflect. What areas need improving? What are your likes and dislikes?
2. Partner with God as you seek/wait on your spouse.
3. Let God know what you want and how you feel about whatever you are struggling with.
4. Give yourself time to heal AND actively participate in the process.
5. Communicate expectations with the person you are seriously dating/married to.
6. Understand that your background and emotional needs play a role in what you expect from the marriage.
7. Once your expectations are communicated, be willing to wait for your spouse to come around or ask the Holy Spirit to fill that void. Change may not always happen overnight.
8. Be open to discussing moments when you feel the relationship or connection is off track. Take steps towards producing a better outcome.
9. Actively listen to what the other person has to say.
10. Consider therapy. It gives you the opportunity to step back and see the situation from another angle.
Well Said ❤

This was a beautiful conversation about marriage. To me the church doesn’t dive into our childhood traumas enough to prepare us for relationships and or marriage!…I’m a 60 year old African American woman and been married for 36 years! We both have been in the church since teenage years! It’s been very challenging and I can relate to this conversation! I can’t wait for part 2 ! God bless you both!..

Thank you so much Nona for a REAL marriage conversation and NOT reel 😊, I would rather listen to this because it’s the truth and the truth sets us all free. You are such a great couple! Your father in law was Right you are the good thing 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Married 28 years and a bonus parent. It’s been a beautiful challenge. I was reminded marriage isn’t a contract, but a covenant with God.
As a woman in waiting, this has been such a great and transparent conversation. I would often ask couples who've been married for 10, 20, 30+ years how they made it as a way of preparation for the future marriage I am believing God to fulfill. Thank you for this and I am looking forward to pt. 2. - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO YOU BOTH
Well said… I completely agree with your response!

I love the transparency every marriage couple has to pass the test.

Praying for pastor nona and Tim Jones ,may the Lord continue to protect this union and may your love for one another never grow cold.
Loved the comment from the pastor about being the example to your future kids so that when you do have them, you can share openly and unashamedly how you treated other daughters of other families in a respectable way🙌🏾
Really enjoyed this conversation. Thanks for sharing with hubby and happy 20th Anniversary!!🎉🎉
This conversation is so so good. Plus, it came with an unpaid therapy session from 53:00, In effective communication it's important to deal with
1) Criticism
2) Contempt
3) Defensiveness
4) Stonewalling
Thank you Pst Nona and to your husband Pst Jones
Ooh wow. This is beautiful Nona and i thank God for your marriage. You give me hope for my almost 15years of marriage and i am trusting that God will keep me and my husband as well. I learnt a lot from this video, I enjoyed watching it, while doing my hair at the salon, so there was no distraction to go cook food etc. I had my earpods on and cud rewind as many times as I wanted to hear again what you or Pastor Jones had said. I am soooo looking forward to part 2.
It is encouraging to hear that I am not alone. I was also like Nona before i got married - if it doesn't work out, i leave - yet my parents were married and together till my mum passed over 2 years ago. I am also working on myself, declaring positive things, to think right, so that i see right things unfold in my marriage; and to use the power of my tongue rightly. May God bless all marriages. It is indeed the oldest institution, older than sin.
God is good. I love you both. God bless your marriage and ministry ❤ 😊 🙏🏼
Thank you for such a profound conversation! As a single woman, desiring marriage, I love that this conversation is so transparent and insightful.

This inspired me so much, even as a single woman who desires to one day have a husband and be a Godly wife. However, I was a little bothered by how far apart you were from each other on the couch. I would like to see the two of you together in the camera lens for part 2.
Okay Pastor. That closing comment got 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
