That's a neat gun culture. I love those old break-action shotgun designs. Very simple and elegant. I'd be curious to know why shotguns have become so prominent in this region over rifles. Is it because of Indian laws? Or simply because of cost?
actually its a cycle ... guns are costly because of strict law and government factory monopoly in gun manufacturing... they deliberately sell guns at higher cost to reduce wide spread purchase of gun. so the most affordable option remains a good old 12 bore
Daniel 12ga is more versatile. We can only have limited number of firearms in most cases its only 1 in our lifetime. So if you are supposed to have only 1 long gun 12 ga would be your obvious choice for self and home defense due to its versatility. Also the cost of Rifle Cartridge is higher in compare to Shotgun shell in India. And Price for Shotgun (Indian Make) is less compare to a standard Bolt Action Rifle .315 or 30.06 in this case. Hope that clarifies. Ohh BTW Hunting is completely banned in India hence .315 doesn't have much practical use in Close combat Home Defense Scenerio.

The fact that these people understand that keeping gun gives you a responsibility to protect those around you and not dominance over others is more than enough to respect their choice to possess a firearm PS : I am against mass gun ownership that can simply lead to chaos. One should own a firearm only and only if the the best way to counter a threat to oneself and those around him/her is no longer possible by any conventional method. Again gun ownership comes with responsibility to defend yourself and those around you not to assert dominance and I do believe a gun ownership lisence should only be given after strict and stringent character, need and previous criminal record assessment.
@@Gangster88232 well I am not going all guns blazing with the second amendment. Damn India don't even have that but Indians still posses the right to defend oneself and if needed each other. If the sole purpose of gun ownership is that of a protective counter measure then it's no longer primitive on the contrary it is civilized. Once again gun ownership is extremely hard to come by in India legally. If you are found in possession of illegal firearm or katta you are in a hell of a ride for prison and court visitings.

Hmm interesting, I live in Idaho and I have a lot of "guns"(a gun is actually an artillery piece) too. I didn't know it was considered a strange practice. I didn't know owning a weapon of any kind would mean that a person was evil, violent, malicious, or of a criminal nature. I have never felt any type of supernatural influence urging me to commit violence eminating from a firearm or any other weapons. They are basically inanimate objects that require an operator, they do not function independently or have any ability to telepathically control a person's mind. I have never shot a person, but I have shot various types of birds, deer, elk, yak, cattle, a few pigs and several goats,...oh and a rabbit once. (they were delicious once prepared and cooked). If there ever comes any murderous thieves in the night I would not hesitate to introduce them to my shotgun or pistol (I pray I never have to though) as it is permitted by the law of my State and God Almighty as well as the local Constable of course. Never leave loaded firearms unsecured or unattended, don't point a firearm at anyone or anything you don't intend to shoot, don't drink alcoholic beverages before handling firearms, don't act like a fool and wave around or brandish firearms, sabers, swords, or other edged weapons (because that's a good way to get yourself shot). Take care and be safe, and may the Lord bless you. Have a great day !!!
In India you can't own a gun unless you are in army, police Or some security services. Another way of getting legal permission to own gun is by giving a good enough reason in court that why you need it for security.
Having a firearm is not considered strange in India…nor is it looked down upon in any way…it is only the unlicensed and thus illegal firearms which are almost always used for crime that are considered a taboo. But I understand why you got this idea because the makers of this film portray it to be so. The thing is that the makers themselves have no idea of what the gun culture in India is like and because it’s strange and perhaps a little evil or violent to them they portray it as that in the video too. They approach it with ignorance and a bias and that shows in the video giving a very, very wrong idea.
No, you do not need to go and give some judicial court a reason for keeping firearms for personal protection…it is the district magistrates office that issues them besides the home ministry etc. And personal protection isn’t even the only or the most common reason…you can be a recipient of a legacy arms licence…you can have one issued because you are an athlete indulging in any sports that involve firearms…you can even get them in special cases for hunting animals if the animals are damaging crops etc…

To me, the only interresting thing is that it seems to be possible to legaly own firearms and even handguns in India. Apart from that, the whole "documentary" appears to be rather sensationalistic, not very imaginative and overall not very informative to be honest. It seems to be more into feeding stupid stereotypes like guns=violence - which are simply not true but persistent thanks to "documentaries" like these. Yet, I understand If you like to see your local area presented on TV (who wouldn't) but if its a documentary about gun culture in that or any other part of India, I would like to learn something about how they apply for licenses, what kind of firearm is legal and what is not, what clubs there are, hunting, sporting, plinking (leisurely shooting) etc... - nothing of the sort, just soundbites of chambals seemingly violent past and some guys wielding registered guns and making stupid remarks that fit the picture - as if legal private gun ownership was the principle root of any violence.
I'm American & I'm not laughing. I've owned over 10 assault rifles of various models & I sold them all. I have come to the same conclusion as the gentleman with the 12 gauge/bore.
It's not a problem to own a gun every citizen has the freedom to get a weapon through the legal procedure, the problem is about the harm, that not everyone but a few could do and if one has to commit a crime he can even kill a person with a stone or anything. Your video is focusing over weapons idk what is wrong about having a gun, this culture of owning a gun should never get over and the arms act should get more flexible so that guns could be more reachable and people go less towards the illegal made guns or so called Desi kattas.

Some issues with QR codes on ammo: Revolvers won’t automatically eject shell casings. Judging by the photos of those illegal firearms, they won’t either. What about someone defacing the QR code prior to shooting ? Or picking up a spent casing with someone else’s QR code and reloading it ( applying a new primer, gun powder and bullet to the casing ). Then if it’s used in a crime the finger is pointed at an innocent person. Seems like it may increase the cost of owning firearms, but likely will do little in regards to crime.

Knockdown power. 12 gauge is a fight stopper.

The fact that these people understand that keeping gun gives you a responsibility to protect those around you and not dominance over others is more than enough to respect their choice to possess a firearm
PS : I am against mass gun ownership that can simply lead to chaos.

Self Defense is our right.. Make it more easier for all People in Entire India with no Criminal Record to buy Guns.
Our Hindu Ancestors always had Swords for Self Defense, Today we have Guns, no difference. A Nation that is ashamed to defend itself will go down in History as a Cowardly Nation.

USA before: eeew Indians
USA after this vid: we are bound by blood🗿
In the past it was for dacoity, present the situation is different, it's kept as a hereditary property and also may be for self protection as to the reason mentioned in the license book. Nowadays it's difficult to get a license so,the person tries to pass on to the next generation. Nothing wrong in having a licensed gun.
Every sound minded Indian should own the best gun he can.
💯
You do know that a sound person can become "unsound" anytime right? When anger takes over, even the calmest priest can become violent. Every Indian owning a gun is recipe for disaster.
@@noice8674Which is why you can't get a license if you're not mentally stable, they will do a background checkup on you and make sure you don't have any criminal records and if you are sane person before they give you the license and this unsound person can also use knives, cars, or actually pretty much anything hard or sharp to kill people so just being concerned over guns which are wayyyyy more fucking harder to get is dumb
and every person owning a gun will make it easier for them to defend against this unsound person too
@@iamepicfumo2360 You don't understand. Person might be mentally stable during background check but you never know what is going to happen to his mental stability after 3-4 years after getting the license. That's what I was telling. And about knives, cars or sharp objects, it doesn't kill as many people as firearms. Moreover you have a chance to defend yourself against knife unlike guns. That's what is happening in America. Person will be sane during background check but snaps after a couple of years and involves in school shooting, public shooting etc which could have been avoided if not for the guns. Even the military veterans aren't exception to this.
@@iamepicfumo2360 Not having guns is always far better than everyone owning a gun. Also you cannot Rome with a gun to defend yourself all the time can you? Would you carry a gun to work, school etc? No right. That's why gun culture is dangerous.

Everyone should keep guns with them except criminals. Guns acts as deterrence. Guns law must be eased.

India is a land of contrasts, MP located in the smack middle of the country and people can buy guns like cars, but WB and northeastern states where there is real risk of foreign invasion, infiltration and trafficking, but no one has guns. Every person should have a right to bear arms to protect from hostiles, and stand one's ground and shoot to maim if threatened.
Exactly. Here in Gujarat it is just as difficult to get a license as in the east; Guns are a self-defense asset, and they only get wrong when the naive masses think of them as something violent innit
