Can’t forget I went to the Honda botb in 2010 or 11 and at the end all the tuba sections were battling. all of a sudden there was this overwhelming sound completely washing out all the other bands tubas. It was famus tuba section. Such raw tone and power. Videos on RUclips sometimes can’t deceive sound like in person.
Too many Sousa players splat their notes. They chop them off and only play in loud staccato fashion when in most musical compositions the bassline is usually elongated sounds - round, full notes unless when playing runs. Love Famu’s Sousa section this year. That’s how you guys are supposed to sound!

SWAC bands are not musically talented to compete with FAMU. The “100” is a precision orchestra that march. They’re the best and I played in Southern’s band. Tone quality is astounding.
Aamu had solid fanfare’s arrangement wise but couldn’t play them fr. Switch fanfares the result would be the same of tone and sound quality in general. In simpler terms, aamu got out played in volume and tone which is literally the worst things as Sousa you don’t want to be outdone in.
