- FACNOR HEADSAIL FURLERS
Why did I choose a Facnor headsail furler?
Facnor has been designing and manufacturing furling and reefing systems for 40 years.
The Facnor headsail furler is in my opinion the quickest and easiest to install - no cutting of the track/foil is needed. The patented telescopic section adjusts to the desired length.
Facnor furlers are durable and reliable with sealed bearings and a hard anodized aluminum drum and swivel.
Facnor makes sailing safer keeping the crew in the cockpit.

My surmise is that people who argue against furlers don't have to sail short-handed. Nicely done!
whats their argument against furlers?
@@Antipodean33 One argument is that they fail at the worst time. Hell, everything on a boat fails at the worst time. If a furler fails then strike the sail just like a hank-on.
@@BillB23 I've been looking at a little boat to buy, a ketch cutter and I said to the old fella "pity there's no furlers" and he looked at me like I was a heretic. He said "this boat is built to cross oceans, without all the stuff that breaks" he's a purist
Feel sorry for the Canadian, little rude to publicly state that her was only second choice .id not be helping this guy again after that
Hey, thanks for taking out the time to make this video. I reviewed it a lot when setting up my LS100. It took me 5 hours total alone.
No problem
Congratulations for not loosing one of those screws in the dock or overboard!
Couple of tips for Facnor and sta-lok fittings.
Use anti seize on thread prior to tightening wire terminal occasionally there will be galling of the stainless to stainless thread and it will literally weld together unable to be undone. No need for thread locker on that one it gets done up FT as plukka said.
But do use screw thread lock on furler joining screws they will work loose and disappear.
Good choice on Facnor I love the gear they build.
I had this problem of seizing and found it was caused by the sharp end of the wire cutting into the receptor, easy fix is to take the edge off of the end with sand paper, file or grind wheel so it does not bite but slides.

Ive seen one other channel take care to make sure strands dont get caught in the groove.. so they fitted once undid it checked nothing was jammed in the grooves and then retightened it to full Torque.
Just one of several hundred things I need to buy for my C-25 resto-mod.
I could have sworn I left a comment this morning. Anyway, nice piece of gear for the boat.
That's great glad to see the upgrade Plucky.
I love these instructional vids.
You’re a natural teacher
WOW! Plukky is actually doing some work and not just surrounding himself with pretty girls and fish. :)
Harsh
Nothing wrong with a bit if bromance with the Facnor. ❤️⛵❤️

Nice video hope it all works well.
Good job guys. Congrats. Now you can clean and paint the inside of your boat.
and install a white rocks storage system to keep the sheilas happy
I truly appreciate you Plukky posting the how to vids. Sure wish you would do more.
Awesome video. The ones where you teach something are great.
Nicely done.
Nicely done mate 👍 👌 👏 🇬🇧
Very nice. Reminds me of a Pro Furl. Similar design. Great rig! Thanks for the demo. Will look into it.
Awesome! Keep up the greatness that is the pluck meister.
That's going to be a lot safer for you, good to see Peter.
Really exciting and very good lession.

Very educating people! Cap is a master in furl forestay installations! Rock Hard 🤘
Very Educational Plucky ! Thanks for sharing 10/10 greetings from 🇦🇬
Hey Plucky thanks for the vid, it was of great value to me because my boat came with Stayloks all around and it was great to see your tips on installing them. Ben S/V DAWN
Good day people nicely done plucky that will be a great addition to your boat and all the adventures over the next wave 🌊 cheers sailor friends 🍻
This is now officially number one sailing channel on YT people.
Nice to see a technical video for a change. But no snorkeling, spearfishing and no girls. comon people.
Very educational pee pol, that will be a great addition to the boat Peter, definitely will be much safer for you when going solo.
Great video educational thanks waving hand for Maryland👋
Bloody Norah, telescopic sections, great idea.
Nothing dodgy about that install, nicely done
What a good idea that was.Making life easier and safer.Even with crew it is a great idea.......yes upgrade where and when you can. That eas very positive.Nice Marina too.
Great furler install Plukky, I must admit I got a little nervous with that beautiful shiny drum sitting @5:35 at the edge of the dock! 😁
How to. I love these kinds of videos. Thanks Capt. P? LOL. ❤🇺🇸⛵🎬🤙
Great job - very informative ( and you still managed to inject plenty of humour ) 😊
Good place to tie up to the dock and stay awhile. Explore it looks like a great find in Panama.
Lyckely I have a furler, maybe I should have a look on it, very good instructions. see ya Plukky.
Nice job. Safe ⛵
The new intro music is nice.
super vid
Nothing but quality people! :)
love watchin plucky you grill and smoke fish the best
Very interesting to see! Thanks for sharing! 😎🐬🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺
I grew up fishin' in boats but hearing you talk about sailboat stuff is like listening to French, but I'm learning. However FT is pretty easy to understand 😂.
My ancient Rotostay furler has the track, or foil, which slides up and down. The whole track slides up the forestay, then you turn the furling drum to loosen or tighten the forestay. There are "D" sections sauged on the stay top bottom and centre, the stay has a big bearing at the top so the whole lot turns. Kinda weird, but it works. Although, I'm a bit jealous of your new kit!!
Cool Good to know!
I never got your email asking for help! 😊
Well done and good choice on the extra halyard guide. See how you go with furling at normal halyard tension. If the angle is good that should work fine. If you find it catches the halyard (and tries to turn it) and jams at normal tension you can normally ease the halyard a touch to get furling again. And then take a fresh look at the angle adjustment.
Thanks NZ champ...
It looks like good chromium but we will have to see. I remember Plukky saying that stainless steel and chromium has took a serious nosedive in quality! But I hope for the best always! I love it, step by step, complete install steps. WooHoo!
Nothing wrong with stainless or chrome, unless it was made in china. They have no quality control, no consumer protection and no regulation. Stainless chinese chain has been known to last a whole year, sometimes. All stainless builds corrosion in salt water.
4th... Great install info.
Do the fastnet lighthouse. Will meet you out there, love your vids plucky.
He once flirted with danger, but danger got to clingy.
He normally doesn't question himself but when he does he likes his answers.
Happy Valentine's day my friend. Stay thirsty🍻.
Just hearing your voice is good with me. And something substantial. thats up to you , but whatever LOL. Thank you!
Enjoy these plukky. 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪👌👌👌👌
good stuff
I've instal a harken MKIV unit, works simmular, slides up and I can ajust the trunbuckle too.
If you put one wrench on the dock and the other one above the lower one then you can put on more force
Look who's moving up in the sailing world. What's next, an espresso machine? 🤣
Sent you some rehab money, enjoy your videos !
Thanks Dub...I need all the help I can get
Very good design. I like to use a good paint instead of sunbrella for my UV protection. It is lighter so not to wight heavy on your sail when it is raining, cheeper and no holes.
That's very interesting Mark, what kind of paint do you use?
i agree with jack, that's very interesting. and yes im also very curious to know what paint you use.
I use a quality opaque wood stain.
BEHR premium solid stain 5011 white snd this can be tinted to any color. I also use it on decks. Roll on and shake sand into wet paint, let dry for second coat. Paint the sail cover and Bimini top. Cleans with water and dries fast.
Thanks Mark I'll give it a go
@@markbailey6051 Thanks for the great info. I think I'll give it a try on my old 130 Genoa.
Nice job! Good to see it worked out well and you've now doubled the price of your boat 🤣 Time for a well earned pineapple I think 🍍
So easy a cave man can do it!!! Nothing but quality here people.
Awesome! Let us know how it performs.
You're going to ruin your reputation putting new parts on that boat. 😁 Bonus points for doing DIY videos.
Keep this up eventually you'll get to painting again.
I have to wait till rainy season first
I prefer hank on as a solo sailor. Yes they are more work but theres nothing to break or go wrong at all. Furler is fine of you have 3 people to help you unjam it as the sail violently flogs.
Sometimes yes...i had to do it by myself once without an autopilot in squally conditions close to reef and rocks....it wasn't good
Cool!
don't forget to locktite the scrubscrews
👌
Good work laddy. Now. what I would like to see. More sailing. The chickies and the wreck diving are all well and good but are you stuck in Panama? Let's go somewhere!
I am stuck without a jib. Saving up so I can move
Excellent episode. Facnor has mixed reviews on some cruiser forums. I guess they have fixed the issues with new models. What model did you install on the boat? Cheers.
Nice when you can put your engineering degree to good practical use 😉 Hope this comment finds you safe well and happy mate
i loooove reggae music
You're getting too fancy!!!!
are you worried he is going vagabondie
@@jimlofts5433 nah, he would need to keep his fridge running all the time first.
👍
Yes yes very nice job Plucky. When you find new friend come aboard?
Very interesting Peter. Hope you don't have to do much sailing single handed.
Much more single handed sailing? Plucky the fun you have with your crew makes your videos much more entertaining. There is only so much spear fishing and beach barbequing you can do on your own before it gets samey. That said I have no idea for the reasoning behind the decision so we can only wait and see although I do have one observation...not one tongue in cheek comment about your engineering skills. You are slipping mate.
Nobody wants to come to my boat ha
Thank You for the interesting in-depth video. I have exactly same furling system to be installed - but the question is, is it possible to use my regular foresail (genoa) or is a new special sail type required? Thank You in advance!
Was it hanked on? You need to get a bolt rope tape sewn on of appropriate diameter... Usually 5 or 6 mm but check
Job well done…now go get a beer.
Happy Valentines Day "People"
This was much better than the zingo.. blah blah shit, thanks
Hope youre using Loctite on the screws
