Just an FYI, you cannot be charged with theft if you didn't leave the store BUT there are other crimes you can be charged with.
I was arrested for shoplifting many years ago and I hadn't left the store yet.
Actually you can be charged for theft as soon as you attempt to bypass payment or show intent to go out the door.
