OLD MAN ODYSSEUS LETS GOOOOOO Actually the first animatic that depicts just how old, tired and worn ody is by the end of the story. I am very much here for the younger, buffer, rogueish version that a lot of animatics feature, but this has always been the one in my head and heart. And my god, what an animatic to do that version of him justice. Utterly incredible work. Genuinely amazing stuff here.

Even with it being such a simple animatic in most of the drawings, you conveyed so much and so well. I loved seeing their first meeting, you drew them so cute, such a wonderful contrast. My favorite interpretation of the song is that she told him to move the bed not to prove him to her, but to prove to Odysseus himself that he was still the Ody she knew all that time ago. ( Prove to himself that he cares and he can still love, and that she still loves him )

Odysseus looks older, tired, and worn here, which is a portrayal i haven't often seen in animatics. I'm always open to different interpretations of his character, but being apart from Penelope and Telemachus for 20 years likely contributed to his aged appearance, given the stress and hardships he's endured, nice work 👍

This is my favourite animatic for this song, i love this song but it never really captured me like others but the way you animated really make it hit for me, Ody isn't the same man just because he became more ruthless, he is old he has missed so much of his family lives and you really show that, also your Penelope just works, idk how to explain, but i love it Incredible work!
This is by far my favorite animatic of this song so far. Love that whole Odysseus being partly hidden by the hangings when Penelope asks if it’s him. And him wanting to hold her, but stepping back as if afraid of dirtying her. The whole her seeing the carnage in the halls, and the red he left on the map. The rocking chair to show when he left. The loom to show how she stalled. The way she tested him with something only Odysseus would know. Showcasing again why he fell in love with her and not someone like Helen. The way she was shouting her frustration to Odysseus and the world on how she’s been waiting these long 20 years, because it was all she could do. How she was scolding him and telling him that he’s hers. Athena and Telemachus seeing them hugging after confirming it’s Odysseus and that Penelope still loved him. It was magnificent.

This is so incredible! One of my favorite depictions of this song. You've got such a beautiful art style. I love the character designs, especially how you made Odysseus truly look tired and worn from his journey. Don't know how to describe it since I lack the proper vocabulary but I really like the use of 'camera' and dynamic shots. For example how you use a wide shot and warped perspective in 0:07-0:09 to make the palace look so much bigger. It conveys a sense of grandness of the moment. Then there is also great imagery like him leaning on the family portrait and mourning his old self, Penelope leading him to the bloody halls (especially the frame in 1:55 looks awesome) and generally everything after 4:05 is just chef's kiss. I love it. I hope this blows up, I want to see more views on this video.
In my favorite movie that tells this story, Athena is the one who alerted Penelope to her husbands' return and I was sad at t his part being left out of Epic--so nice to see her peeking in on them. She's kinda broken too, but she still loves Ody and probably Penelope too.

Wow, I really love this. I don't think I've seen any other version of this song that resonated with me the way your video did, I actually got a little choked up when Penelope rebuked Odysseus here - like yes, you have been through a lot, but also, how DARE you throw back in my face the loyalty and dedication I've kept all these years. Do you really think you're the only one who made a promise when we got married?" It really struck home the idea of "I will choose to love you every day forever." I also really love the way you animated Odysseus walking her through his trials and tribulations, and at the end during their embrace the flashbacks of every difficult moment where he chose Penelope to get here. I also loved visually seeing Penelope comparing the man who left to the man who returned in the beginning, especially since obviously she'd be comparing, but Odysseus isn't sure how she feels about the differences she sees there (even if she's already made up her mind). Just a really well-done video, thank you.
Back again because I've rewatched this video at least ten times in the past two days, sometimes just for the tree bed part. As other commenters have noted already, I do really love that Odysseus is like, "This is NOT an easy request and it's gonna KILL me to do because metaphorically uprooting our love is fucking HARD but if that's what you want me to do, by the gods I'll Do It." (His hair becoming its own character is stellar.) But again, even though I know it's technically the song and not only the art, I really feel like your animatic is the only one I've encountered that effectively teases out and interprets those emotions, and Odysseus acknowledging "Do you know how impossible that is? (But I'll do it)" is such a perfect counterbalance to Penelope's reaction here. "Yes, obviously it's impossible - as impossible as the possibility of my love being so easily moved from one side of the room to the other." It's not some clever challenge or trick, it's a metaphor - the only metaphor she knew would get through his thick head. And I really love how you juxtaposed the feigned, what, cutesiness? In how she asked with the absolute RAGE that comes through with the way you animated her reaction in that dead silence as Odysseus realizes the logic trap he's fallen into. Anyway, thank you again. I look forward to leaving more comments as I continue rewatching this and thinking of more things I like well enough to explicitly tell you about. (Spoilers: next one'll probably be about your interpretation of the second verse, which is also perfect and wonderful.)

In my favorite movie that tells this story, Athena is the one who alerted Penelope to her husbands' return and I was sad at t his part being left out of Epic--so nice to see her peeking in on them. She's kinda broken too, but she still loves Ody and probably Penelope too.

The greek style arts, the way they walk through hall, the first met flash back, the way they look at each other when they were young, the way you put odyssey montage in between their hug, the fact that Athena is there watching with Telemachus. You cannot with me and the red string going throughout the entire palace, only to end and coil around the most on Odysseus' throne and in the ceiling of their bedroom because those are the places Penelope has spent the past 20 years longing for him. Not to mention, it could also be a variation of the red string of fate that ties them together, all the while Penelope is "showing" Odysseus these strings to make him realize that she was waiting FOR HIM, not just for love, but FOR HIM WHO'S THE LOVE OF HER LIFE (ugly cries)

I don't think I've seen any other version of this song that resonated with me the way your video did, I actually got a little choked up when Penelope rebuked Odysseus here - like yes, you have been through a lot, but also, how DARE you throw back in my face the loyalty and dedication I've kept all these years. Do you really think you're the only one who made a promise when we got married?" It really struck home the idea of "I will choose to love you every day forever."
I also really love the way you animated Odysseus walking her through his trials and tribulations, and at the end during their embrace the flashbacks of every difficult moment where he chose Penelope to get here. I also loved visually seeing Penelope comparing the man who left to the man who returned in the beginning, especially since obviously she'd be comparing, but Odysseus isn't sure how she feels about the differences she sees there (even if she's already made up her mind).
Just a really well-done video, thank you.
Back again because I've rewatched this video at least ten times in the past two days, sometimes just for the tree bed part.
As other commenters have noted already, I do really love that Odysseus is like, "This is NOT an easy request and it's gonna KILL me to do because metaphorically uprooting our love is fucking HARD but if that's what you want me to do, by the gods I'll Do It." (His hair becoming its own character is stellar.)
But again, even though I know it's technically the song and not only the art, I really feel like your animatic is the only one I've encountered that effectively teases out and interprets those emotions, and Odysseus acknowledging "Do you know how impossible that is? (But I'll do it)" is such a perfect counterbalance to Penelope's reaction here. "Yes, obviously it's impossible - as impossible as the possibility of my love being so easily moved from one side of the room to the other." It's not some clever challenge or trick, it's a metaphor - the only metaphor she knew would get through his thick head. And I really love how you juxtaposed the feigned, what, cutesiness? In how she asked with the absolute RAGE that comes through with the way you animated her reaction in that dead silence as Odysseus realizes the logic trap he's fallen into.
Anyway, thank you again. I look forward to leaving more comments as I continue rewatching this and thinking of more things I like well enough to explicitly tell you about. (Spoilers: next one'll probably be about your interpretation of the second verse, which is also perfect and wonderful.)
