Pro-tip from an old dog, guys: First dates should be a "quick" coffee or a drink at a bar/pub. Coffee is better as it's a bit more intimate, not to mention cheaper - not that I'm saying to be cheap, but the blow won't hit as hard if there is no chemistry. Pro-tip from an old dog, guys: First dates should be a "quick" coffee or a drink at a bar/pub. Coffee is better as it's a bit more intimate, not to mention cheaper - not that I'm saying to be cheap, but the blow won't hit as hard if there is no chemistry. If she is worth anything, she won't demand you take her out somewhere extravagant for the first date. This will allow you to get a feel for her to see if she is worth pursuing/if she likes you. Also, sow the seed in her mind that you may not have a lot of time, just in case you want to make a swift exit. If it's going well and you want to stay with her, tell her you are blowing the other thing off to be with her. It will make her feel good, but at least you had the option to bail in a courteous way. It's win-win. DON'T go to a restaurant or do anything else elaborate/expensive on the first date. If the first date goes well, do whatever you want on the second date.
