My hidden gems from the euro-shop are sets of small oil-paints - not a fan of their white spirits though- , thin wood discs in 40, 50 and 60 mm diameter for bases, cheap jewelry for chains and strange pendants and of course the weeks after Easter and Halloween when you can grab whole gaming tables full of eggs, skeletons and other stuff on sale.

Excellent video! Children's toys are so useable in crafting all it takes is just sitting back and looking at the shapes in different ways. Sadly my boys were all grown before I became a crafter. Four boys make a lot of damaged toys over their "aging to legality" point and I still have boxes and boxes of stuff. At least they all ended up gamers and feel the need to drop off supplies when they are on leave.
As someone who is familiar with the makeup section I can tell you there is a LOT of useable stuff there. In addition to the brushes and sponges the makeup itself is very useable. Foundation powder is perfect for dust pigments and you can get a fair amount for nothing. It also comes caked in a what is called a compact you gust need to crush it up in a ziplocked bag. You "can" use the eye shadow pigments but you have to get the ones that are not shiny because what makes them shiny is a different color. Clear nail polish is a perfect gloss for small highlight after a flat coat. I use it on monster eyes and for the glass on gages and consoles. Nail polish remover no only thins the polish but also thins oil based paints for weathering and shading as well as brush cleaning even for acrylic paints. There way more useable stuff! Ask the women in your lives to save their old brushes and makeup. Just like makeup the brushes have a life cycle too and once we can't use it as intended it's perfectly good for crafting.

I get the acrylic crafting paints. the bottle has a much larger quantity than the expensive miniature quality paint. it's good for the base color on the mini prior to using the expensive paints for the detail work. saves a lot of $$.

On floral foam: while the crumbly, powdery green stuff is of course useless... the harder stuff isn't that bad. You need to do some extra work to seal for painting it since it's so porous, but it cuts & takes texture very well. Honestly a decent alternative for all of us who struggle to be able to find a good local source of XPS foam, better than repurposes packing foam, & it comes in shapes & sizes convenient for terrain making. The stuff I've made from it needed about 2-3 coats of BMC-style paint+modpodge primer to seal it up appropriately, but it came out decent. For future projects, I'm expecting to pre-prime it with a rub-on of plaster/spackle.
    For my own dollar-store finds:
    * in the crafting section you can find MDF-cut out decals of clocks, animals, etc. Could easily be used for some kind of terrain like a clocktower, decorative mural, etc.
    * in the toy section, you can get play-doh. Great filler material, especially at the price of $1 for 6 cans. Just use a PVA-based primer layer (again, good old paint+modpodge) on it & it becomes impenetrable.
Not so unique hobby finds: the yearly halloween decorations, particularly the various skeletons animals.

I recently got this same idea and went over to, not exactly a dollar store, but kind of an equivalent of that, just functioning as a chain. Turned out they got beautiful small rocks, fine sand and gravel, all in convenient jars (all decorative, so they're scented, but I can live with that), loads of twigs, dry bark chips, and great looking coasters or something made from dried wood, cut with the bark into perfectly flat disks that will be great as fun environmental bases for multiple minis. Put a tree and some shrubs on that baby, add a puddle and some rocks, and place 10 hobgrots on there.

It's funny. I'm eating at a parking lot rn, right before I go into a local dollar store. And I see this video shows up on my recommended.
Idk if it's Google tracking where I'm going or algorithm RNGesus.
