Just wanted to take a minute to thank you. I reference your videos often for my VTX 1300. Your videos are a example of a competent mechanic. I think the little bits of advice are cool too i.e." if it doesn't feel right stop" I've damaged more than one component by not stopping. It's a good common sense approach to working on your machines.
Happy all went well. Thank you for watching and all your support Mark. Vtx 1300 are great motorcycles. Ride safe and have a great day. Any questions just ask.
Thanks Rocco!! I just got done doing this on my 2006 VTX!! Had a little trouble with the back side had to feel that it was OK did it with the bike on the ground-I still have to change the oil so it will be going up on the Jack and I’ll spin the tire before I pull the brake lever and pump it back up, BEFORE I RIDE -walked it up and down the driveway, nothing fell out lol or squeeked but appreciate the quick video.!!
I have a candy red 2003 1300 VTX retro also...The part about getting the pistons back home is very important. I just sprayed some WD 40 on a stubborn one and came back the next day and it had already sucked itself in without any "persuasion"...great job!
I go with organic pads rather than the semi metallic. It saves the rotor and metal rust from forming also on the rims if you don't keep up with cleaning them. I have the spokes and believe me, they're a pain to detail. Thanks for the videos.👍
This man's voice sounds like he knows how to work on motorcycles. If he said " Lay the bike over on its side. Be careful all bikes are different. Then grab it by the rear wheel and start pulling it across the asphalt. You should be able to feel the paint and chrome griding as you pull. If not, stop what you are doing you are doing it wrong. Now you should see some long deep scratches on the side of your bike. That's beautiful." I would do it.
How important is it to have the metal clips in the calipers. When I went to take mine out both the front and back metal peices fell out. How are they supposed to be positioned if they are needed.
Happy to help. Yes they are important the anti-vibration. Take a close look take the caliper off. Do not disconnect the line and you will see inside the indentations for those pieces. I will try to find a schematic for it and send it to you. Thank you for watching and all your support like-minded. Ride safe and have a great day. www.vtxoa.com/threads/front-brake-caliper-spring-clips.464736/. The big one goes in the center of the caliper the smaller one with the slot, follows around your rotor, so you will see in the caliper. It can only go one way both of them can only go one way but the big ones the center and the small ones up on the top and you'll see the groove for your dis. Hope this helps.
Hey Rocco. I have a question. I was starting my VTX up and it just stopped. When I turn the key on nothing comes on. The trickle charger shows its fully charged. Its 1 1/2 year old YUASA that I always have on the trickle charger. Could it be the ignition switch? Thanks
The first thing I would do is check your battery leads. Take an meter and check your batteries voltage. Turn the ignition on and check your starter relay for power. That will be under your right side cover. Let me know how that works out.
Bad battery. Those trickle chargers are not needed with Li ion. I fought low cranking amps until I bought one off Amazon and it was way lighter and had plenty of CCA. Put a voltmeter on your battery and try to start it. If the voltage drops way down below 10v or so, you have a bad cell or some such problem...
Happy to help. Any questions just ask, make sure you collapse the pistons in the calipers 100% to make room for the new Pads and you should have no problems. Thank you for watching and all your support. Ride safe and have a great day.
Happy to help.I would remove the caliper so you could look in the throat of it. between the pistons. you will see with the front. It's quite obvious once you have the piece in your hand and the caliper, you'll will fully understand. If not let me know and I'll find some pictures on it. Thank you for watching and your sub.Yyan. Ride safe and have a great day.
Sounds like you changed all those parts. Was your caliper pistons a little rusty. If so, take the caliper off and with the brake handle just press it once or twice after you remove the brake pads. move this caliper in and out and oil it, with a nice little wire brush try to clean the corrosion around the caliper pistons move them back-and-forth until they move freely. Sounds like one might be on an angle and jammed in place. Let us know how it works out. Thank you for watching and all your support manual. Ride safe and have a great day.
Sound like the dealer, why would I replace the rotor? Thank you for watching and your sub Rob. Ride safe and have a great day. I try not to do work that does not need to be done. why do you think I should replace the rotor.
Happy to help, pull them apart clean the corrosion on the pistons work them in and out until they operate, smoothly and then reinstall pads and reinstall caliper. Let us know how it works out. Ride safe. Have a great day.
I'm just trying to help. If you do not have a garage, I'd have to This will not be thet text easy. But the video will show you the tools needed and the process to help get the job done. Thank you for watching and all your support. Kensel. Ride safe and have a great day.
