  • The Camera angles were awful for their highlight lift, but you can still see the beauty of their Skating and Choreography which won them their first Senior International Medal, the Silver, deservedly so! The scores took an eternity to come up and my recorder gave up, but it was a New Season's Best 107.43 TES 59.45 PCS 47.98, and that's with no British Judge on the Panel and Svetlana Gurreiro of Australia, Jonathan's Mum, as Technical Specialist, known to be uber strict. Congratulations Phebe & James and Penny & Nick, their Coaches/Choreographers, and Thank you!
May the Junior Judges hang their heads in shame what they did to this couple last season at the JGP Final and Junior Worlds. For all the lauding of the Czechs by Singles Watchers, including TSL, well, compare the scores now in Senior. I always knew Phebe & James would do well in Seniors because they have elegant artistry and maturity. As I reminded people last season of what Marina Anissina said in response to Barbara Fusar-Poli's comment at Olympics 2002 that the Italians skated faster, "But it's not Downhill Skiing!"
I recorded the Medal Ceremony and will upload separately.
Apologies for not uploading Natalia & Jayin's FD but my recorder failed. Though they have a great Prince Medley and were 6th in the FD to climb to 7th Overall and Qualify for Worlds 24 which made Natalia cry! Awwww. I really wish I'd captured it.

First of all, this is a small third grade competition and the scoring in such competitions is quite different than, for instance, in GP events or even at challengers. Secondly, the Mrazeks season's best for their FD is 110.12, and that is from Lombardia Trophy which is a challenger. Yes, the score was much lower at Skate America, but that's because they had a mistake on their choreographic steps and got level 2 for their spin. Also, that's a GP, not a competition like this Swiss Open.
Further, I like James/Hernandez, but I don't think that something bad was done to them at the Junior GP Final and, especially, at the Junior Worlds. Yes, Bashynska/Beaumont didn't have ideal skates, but they didn't have any serious mistakes either, and overall they are/were a better team. They got much lower scores than they would have gotten with better skates as it is. As for Mrazkova/Mrazek, they do have better skating skills than James/Hernandez and their junior programs from last season were better and more expressive than this season's programs. I am not even talking about Lim/Quan. They don't have the same speed as Mrazeks, but they are complete skaters and those were the skates of their lives so far.
