6:29 well yeah, Italy/Rome has been a major part of history for millennia. Shape wise it has two noticeable peninsulas, and the whole peninsula itself. And also Sicily was in the middle of many wars and has a distinct triangular shape.
1:50 It's also, well... not in English. It's in Greek. I think Italy and the Mediterranean are so accurate because, well, the Roman Empire guess is probably not wrong, but I also think it's because, throughout the Middle Ages, Italy was a big commercial hub, with a good number of merchant republics (including the very serene Venice). Since they would sail around the Mediterranean, they would have a special need for accurate maps. Maybe it's also the fact people have navigated the Mediterranean for a long time, even before the Romans.
Innacuracies: 0:50 Well... he's holding it. 0:56 IReland. The R please. 1:00 German empire/German 2nd Reich/Imperial Germany. 1:40 Bye-zantinian? No, Bi-zantinian. 4:14 Dancing? Danzig is a German city. 4:19 1504? Oldest? 1420:😪 6:16 1422 now? 1420:😭😭😭
So the Free City of Danzig was a semi-autonomous state consisting of Danzig (now Gdańsk) and 200 towns/villages surrounding it that was created as a part of the Treaty of Versailles and protected by the League of Nations. Poland gained access to the port, the railways, communication and had a customs union with them so it was created so Poland could have a sizable seaport. Danzig was majority German at the time, but the Poles had a party as well so it was meant to be neutral ground. But by 1936, its government was majority Nazi so protests for a return to Germany ramped up. So when Germany did invade Poland in 1939, they abolished the Free City and it was absorbed into the Reichsgau of Danzig-West Prussia. The Polish and Jewish citizens of Danzig were sentenced to forced labor and extermination
these 'maps i find ___' and 'flags i find ___' gotta be my comfort series!! find them so fun to watch and when youre having a bad day these videos always makes you happy again. the same goes with all your videos tbh:D thank you jack.
I thought Jack’s geography knowledge couldn’t get any worse, then he called Germany Austria Hungary. Yes I know it’s the old pre WW1 boarders, but it’s still recognisable as Germany!

Hey Jack, I found this game called "Explordle" basically it is a quick video clip of someone walking through a certain city and you have to pick between mutliple options and guess which city it is based on the information givin in the video. I think its pretty cool and you should try it.
I've noticed that the old cartographers were always interested by out of reach areas, even in Europe, like Ireland, Scotland and Iceland. Then obviously Asia and Americas once they started understanding them more.
i find it very interesting how in the maps (presumably CE dates) he first saw 1420, then 1422 and deemed it the new oldest, and then saw 1445 and deemed the new oldest once again
3:17 you can also see that the middle east (expect for eygpt) are colored the same color as europe which maybe means that it was considered part of europe at that time in japan which if was adopted by the world will change many things in this world (for example middle eastern will have the chance to join nato and eu seeing that they are europeen and europe been more divirst and the anti reefuge term ``èurope for europeen`` will not work any more)
4:06, Danzig is the German name for Gdańsk, a polish coastal city, which I am from. It used to be part of Germany, but for a couple of decades it is polish.
6:15 jack: "i thing we might have a new winner for the oldest map".(the oldest map of constantinople from 1422) 1:40 the Byzantine map: am i a joke to you? (from 1420)
thank you so much Jack for uploading today I know its a stupid thing to say but today has been one of the worst days of my life and getting the notification that you uploaded boosted my mood that tiny bit
4:17 Jack: "1504! alright oldest thing in the video so far" 1:37 world map: Am I a joke to you?(is from 1420) 6:12 map of constatinople got actually quite close(1422)
This video is really funny and I enjoy watching Jack's videos so don't get me wrong but it also makes me kinda mad how often he says wrong things so I just wanted to point out some of his mistakes even though I'm aware that most of these aren't worth talking about 0:59 That is not Austria-Hungary. It's the German empire. You can clearly tell because it's in the same place as today's Germany. 4:07 "Freie Stadt Danzig" does not mean "Free city of dancing". It's translation is "Free City of Danzig" (Danzig being the German name) or "Free City of Gdańsk" (Gdańsk being the Polish name). Either way it was a semi-autonomous city-state that existed between 1920 and 1939. Before its independence and between 1939 - 1945 it was part of Prussia / the German empire and since 1945 it's part of Poland. 4:50 (Not a mistake but a fact) There are still colonies to this day. The only european country that still has colonies is France with the most recognizable one being French Guiana. Though the French call these terretories "Département d'outre mer" (Overseas department) today.
The amount of times Jack said, "new oldest map" and had already forgotten about the previous one is so funny to me

Jack after 20 minutes:
A map from 1860?
