Was part of the commissioning team for the Inter City East Coast allocation and then had a thirty year association with them until my retirement in 2007. In 1985 I was involved in the world speed record run from Newcastle to Kings Cross for a diesel train, a record that stands to this day.
I love these that much I’m trying to bring them all back to a popular train simulator game :). Done 253 001 W43 002 In Flying Banana paint scheme and also in the Prototype Black and Blue. Now I’m just finishing off 43 257 and 43 318. I just wish I was in that paint shop tho so I could see the mix and then get the actual colour right for my work. Rail Blue No 114 I believe but this all depends on the undercoat used. I believe they called it an ultra blue before they used the Rail Blue on top. So much goes into the paints and history of it. That on its own is interesting,,well if your into making liveries or paints lol. Great Job tho and shame to see them go,,they done well after 40 Years Service.
Luckily where I live, we have other intercity express options over the IETs popping up every where, such as the Pendelino, Nova 2/3 and Voyager/Super Voyager/Meridian.
If you were going to keep some of them then why not use them on London Kings Cross-Middlesbrough, Scarborough, Hartlepool, Grimsby, Saltburn and Whitby and in 5-Car, 6-Car &/or 7-Car formation.
That's why they are affectionately known as 'Tonkas', because as we know Tonka toys are indestructible. Let's here it ' We are the boys that make no noise, because we're the boy's with 'Tonka toys'😉
Miss them it would be cool if u kept them longer because in the past younger trains a getting retired when there like spits and Lancasters which are like 75 years old but I guess I’m gonna have to deal with it sad face :(
how you comparing steam to the concorde? yeah steam was THE original train, but i can make the argument that if it weren't for HSTs we'd probably still have stupid loco hauled stock for semi fast and fast services, or even better, a class 111 modified to go 110mph. yeah i don't know about you but i'd rather be in a MK3 than in a first gen DMU that grows asbestos in 10 years (this applies to the mk1s that your tea kettles used aswell :) )
Totally agree that these trains will be a British icon along with the concorde and spitfire!
Haha
And Lancaster
I love lner and know all the stations that they manage❤️

I will miss the HST
I will miss them.
A fitting tribute to this remarkable train , and a great effort by all those involved .
You fucking crackhead, you're praising m e r e corporateers who don't give a fuck about yer statehood legacies :::pfft:::
@@trainrover what is this knobhead complaining about
Another piece of awesome British engineering along with Concorde, Spitfires, Televisions, Phones and more

Still better then the new trains. Also the 225s are better then the new trains! We are going backwards in Britain!!!

@mattevans4377 Same, except I get no Nova 3s, no Meridians and one very late HST per day
pendolinos are better than azumas
change my mind
im gonna miss it :(
We all are

Dinnae go!
The Mark 3's within the set are now Hotel Chalets and the Class 43's within this set are waiting their own fate.
Hst125 is to BR (and whoever it is now) as Spitfire is to RAF.

I wish LNER kept the InterCity125 sets instead of retiring them
How can anyone compare the HST to concorde? Lol. The only train worth admiring is steam. Everything else in comparison is utterly boring.
This is a lot more successful than 99% of your beloved kettles
