- Video Compilation of the Scottish TV Comedy Sketch Show Scotch & Wry.
Scotch and Wry is a Scottish television comedy sketch show produced by BBC Scotland and starring Rikki Fulton and a revolving ensemble cast which over the years included Gregor Fisher, Tony Roper, Claire Nielson, Juliet Cadzow and John Bett.
Initially running for two series from 1978 to 1979, the show went on to become a top-rating annual Hogmanay special for over a decade. The series also gave early exposure to emerging Scottish actors such as Gerard Kelly and Miriam Margolyes. In later years, cast members from sister BBC Scotland comedy show Naked Video would also make sporadic appearances.
The first was Scotch & Wry, which was released in 1986, and proved such a massive hit that a second compilation, Double Scotch & Wry, followed in 1987, proving almost as popular. Each video was 90 minutes in length and featured sketches right up to the 1985 and 1986 specials respectively. A third video, Triple Scotch & Wry, was released in 1990 and finally a fourth video, Scotch & Wry 4: Prince of Pochlers, in 1992.
Rikki Fulton was one of a kind. Never will we see his like again
Rikki fulton is a wonderful comedian. Every new years eve i watched scotch and wry with wonderful jokes and sketches. He was a comedy genius.
The best comedian that ever lived. Rikki Fulton. I hope and pray he is in heaven making everybody laugh and himself.
Growing up in Scotland during late 70s 80s we used to love watching rikki at New year's. Must've been the time mo Johnstone moved from celtic to rangers lol Jamesie cotter as batman lol
brilliant genius Scottish new year is not the same without him even after 16 years since he left this world rikki will never be forgotten because he is one of the last of the generation that protected his craft and enjoyed it for the pleasure that is gave to others .
@@Autisticwanderer No it’s not. I have the fondest childhood memories watching this with my late Father. Comedy genius.
Feel exactly same. New year is nothing to look forward to anymore. All the shows are crap
The wonderful Claire Nielson will be 87 on April 8th 2024.
Rikki is my favourite comedian. I love Billy Connolly too but Rikki was something else.
Love the references to the local areas, an recording celebs an stars..
Rikki's teeth are funnier than any comedian working today
Love this ,thanks for the memories. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it
What a treat.
Brilliant
Fun fact: the Batman scene actually very nearly happened in an episode of the old Adam West Batman TV series; except in that version, when the cop realised it was Batman he tried to tear up the parking ticket, and Batman stopped mid-chase to lecture him on the importance of applying the law to all without bias XD And that's why no modern Batman will ever live up to the OG.
loved this prog ❣
Absolute genius 😂
Rikki was such a gd laugh wtch it regular so did all my family rip rikki
My grandparents were Scottish immigrants. They had me watching this since I was a wee lad. They also warned me, from age 6 or so, about organized religion, the Rothschilds and the worldwide drug trade
A Scottish ritual every hogmanay
Don't forget Fran & Anna!
Classic Glasgows finest comedian
😂 marvellous
Still game is nothing compared to this a one off that will never be again
The Rev W.E.Free is just comedy genius. Rikki was unique and Scotland is not the same after his passing. The piss awful stuff they put on now is a travesty.
If you can ever find it, STVs "Charles Endell Esquire" was a brilliant one season show. Rikki was in it, along with the late great Ian Cuthbertson and Tony Osoba.
Class 🏴
Many a New Year with the steak and Scotch and Wry before heading out to party.
Where can you see all the scotch and wry episodes?

7:22 Is he the "Baldy Man"?
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
