      @@michealbay1290 This is actually a combination of Sikorsky S-69 rigid contra-rotating coaxial rotors and Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne pusher propeller. It is just a bigger version of S97 Raider.

    ...I was also present at the beginning of the Comanche program, from the Shadow (an S-76 with a Comanche cockpit grafted onto the fuselage and a fenestron replacing the standard four bladed tail rotor) through it's first flight and subsequent flight testing - the program was cancelled shortly after the 'Big Layoff of March 2000 which saw the S-75 program sent to the Czech Republic)

      This is actually a combination of Sikorsky S-69 rigid contra-rotating coaxial rotors and Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne pusher propeller. It is just a bigger version of S97 Raider. This is a joint program of Lockheed and Boeing for UH-60 replacement.

    Usually Helicopters are always windy when close to trees or the ground, but this new Helicopter does not kick up no wind which is awesome

    Looks like the airfield right outside the hangars where I worked for 14 years and saw the Comanche make its first flight, as well as many military aircraft do fly-bys past us and the Pratt & Whitney plant on the same property...at the sound of the approaching military aircraft, all the tools on the shop floor would crop in unison as the guys would run out to watch the aircraft perform high speed maneuvers and usually a full power, straight up climbout in afterburner at the end of the display...

      @@maxiemusfpv198 Fixed rotor (no flapping) has been around for ages as has the counter rotating twin rotors (no tail rotor needed). I imagine they have refined the blade design and added the rear thruster prop to allow it to fly faster in forward flight. Nothing earth shattering. Just old tech that's been updated.

    I knew i'd seen footage of this thing actually flying at speed sometime ago...well OK it's not exactly, but it's a commercial version called SIkorsky X2. The predecessor to this militiarized version by the looks but flies the same i guess and that thing can hit 250 knots. I've also just found there's an S97 Raider too

    So it is basically a re-emagening of the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne with a twist of Kamov KA-50 Black Shark koaxial main rotor system...and mady some NOS parts frome the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche.

    How much of that fuselage is for cargo and how much is engine? The video makes it look like it has a minimal Cargo capacity. Now they have counter rotating rotors why not a counter rotating Prop?

    When you can make the avionics with the extreme reliability that the military needs, then I'll be impressed. All this new technology is cool but means nothing when it breaks after less than 50 hours of flight time in the desert. The goal of the next helicopter project should be reliability as priority number one. Not innovations that just fail in a real world environment

    I get it its nice but you forget the one thing it lacks, Cargo capacity. No joke 3/4 of the Defiant is dedicated to the engines period. The space for people ends at a foot behind the rear window. That said I can see the Defiant and the Valor complimenting each other very nicely.

      I'm not an expert but from what I know, basically it's used instead of tail rotor to cancel out the yaw caused by the main rotors. Doing it this way means the helicopter can travel faster in level flight and gives it much better stability in hover. The downside is its more complicated to maintain and repair. It's called a coaxial rotor design if you want to look into it more.

    The Aerospace Engineers must have played Journey to Silius (an Nes Game) at some point in time, because the 1st boss on the game is this helicopter. I always wondering if someone would actually try to really make this type of aircraft, and I guess now it's real.
