I love how when we get to progressive metal and production work like this, everybody is suddenly a fucking audio engineer and has to criticize hard work like this. I personally think that Jason is way ahead of everyone with this piece.
I loved the part where the drums came in a the snare was way to fucking loud and covered most everything. I'm by no means an audio engineer but even I can hear that this was poorly put together in some sections. Great song/composition but it's brought down but sub par mix/mastering.
Maxi Frost I love how people still think you have to be qualified at a subjective art form to know if it's shit. I can't direct a movie, compose a song, write a book or paint a picture, but if it looks like shit then it's shit.
How does this guy not have more attention as a guitarist? I've never really been a fan of deathcore, but everything I've listened to that Jason has contributed to has been very very impressive.
He has a lot of attention dude. He revolutionized deathcore single handed. Between Born Of Osiris' album The Discovery and Chelsea Grin's EP Evolve, he has a lot of recognition
Then why did so many deathcore bands adopt born of osiris' sound after the discovery? He showed everyone that there was more that could be done with the genre than just grind.
As an engineer, I'm going to simply say to everyone who wishes to complain about the mixing of this... Just enjoy the music. Mixing is an art form, and like all arts, is subjective. Though it's based on science as well, just remember... Music is what got us here. So let's enjoy the music. Besides, anything streaming from RUclips is of awful quality to begin with. If it isn't a .wav file, I don't particularly enjoy the quality. Regardless, I think this music is awesome, and that's what brought me here to begin with.
I would love to get lessons with Jason and to play guitar but I've developed carpal tunnel and haven't played in a long time. One day my hand will be okay and I be able to progress towards my musical goals again.
I think it's amazing guitar work. I was always a fan of Jeff Loomis and the first time I heard Jason Richardson play I hoped he would release some solo work. It's amazing how people say our generation has no great bands and no great musicians. Jason Richardson > Eddie Van Halen.
***** He's not pretentious. He works hard and he knows it, but he's still very humble. You don't last in a metal subgenre very long no matter what role in the band you play or how good you are if you carry on ego.
What ever you say about anything in this masterpiece, about the drums or the sound, this is fucking awesome. Why do people have to judge every single piece of art just love it cuz these artist are doing it for all of us not just specific people and they work hard to do this just give them credit for that
Jason is by far my biggest inspiration, Everything he's been a part of I completely love. I think this is amazing! Most of the time I have to sit down and listen to a song several times before I began to love it, but that's never ever been the case with Jason's music. He will bring great wonders to people who listen to him! I know he has for me. I absolutely can't wait to hear more work from him. Keep the great work up, Jason! You Rock!!
Favorite guitarist of all time. I was stoked to discover this track. All shall parish and through the eyes of the dead were my favorite bands in highschool 2005-2008. I saw chelsea grin at ace of spades sac a few weeks ago and it was a great show. I didn't even know jason was their old guitarist..respect and appreciate your talent
And Jason is you ever see this, I hope you leave Chelsea grin..they're holdin you back man. This song completely prose it. Pursue as a solo until something else comes up..this is amazing bro.
This really is quite amazing, I love his syncopated technique in some parts. Also, why does anybody get the right to judge music? It is someone's thoughts, emotions and creativity projected through music. I'm sure Jason doesn't give two shits if people think this is "generic"... This is him just purely expressing himself and probably having a bit of fun...
SuperItalia494 Absolutely nothing generic here but haters who couldnt play this shit with 10 fingers on 2 hands on 4 arms! I guarantee you this amazes all the guitar gods! Vai, Malmsteen, and I bet you Becker likes it too! This guy is defenitely in a class of his own! Are you familiar with Glenn Proudfoot? Totally different but just as awesome!
BOO sucks without you Jase. You made that band what they were and left them to maintain a level of expectation that they could never attain without you. You are the ultimate metal troll haha.
I don't care what anyone says, this song is pretty good. Sure the mixing may sound a tad weird at times, but his guitar skills are fanominal. So congrats Jason
I really dig the orchestral approach with the other instruments rather than the song just being a guitar shred fest(although its nothing less but awesome in that area). This piece is really good at keeping me interested for the whole duration of the 10 minutes as well which is not an easy feat to accomplish. Awesome stuff, haven't been this impressed with a composition in a while.
I hate to be this guy, but to everyone saying he did so much with born of Osiris, he tracked almost all of the discovery, but his only guitar contributions were follow the signs, xiv and behold. I have a screenshot of him sending me this when he left the band if anyone's interested in seeing it. Not bashing, just frustrating seeing people rip on BoO and give the credit to Jason.
I really thought BoO was gona be just fine without you, I was wrong, so very wrong, you were actually everything I liked about the Discovery apparently
It was so nice to wake up today, and this much awaited music that have been here in my loud speaker! thank you jason! so fucking awesome .. the best !!
I can tell by this that this man is the inspiration of sound and technique for both Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin. You had to of sold your soul to the devil.
SKALE - E - TRON I like both in different ways. This one is super symphonic. The other is symphonic but it’s really quiet and not as pronounced. But the mixing is better in 2.0 imo
This is a sweet song, but I do agree that the drums sound a little funny. I think he was going for a little bit of an electronic sound, which I think would be cool, but it needs a little tweaking so it doesn't sound so jumbled in the mix. Other than that, I found this track very musically inspiring :)
This seriously reminds me alot of dream theater from like 05-09 era...Jason Richardson is a very talented musician, and he'd get more notoriety and respect if he went to a totally progressive metal project
Absolutely insane. Just my kind of music. Techinical, heavy, creative, hard to follow (which keeps it fresh with every listen) and instrumental. Perfect. The mix would be killer too if it weren't clipping all over the place.. which is an easy fix. Just turn it doooown a bit.
By far my favorite musician out there. I had no clue that Jason played all of these instruments. Mad fucking props dude, hoping to hear more of this because I will always support. Sooo excited for the new CG album.
I don't know why people are calling this unoriginal. At the very least, the instrumentation in this is phenomenally unique.
Great song/composition but it's brought down but sub par mix/mastering.

oddlyfrost To you
Nathan Sargeant thank you. without your insight, I may have never known it was my opinion
oddlyfrost
This basically just confirmed that Jason Richardson was The Discovery...
and the dust to dust ashes to ashes album was also him
How does this guy not have more attention as a guitarist? I've never really been a fan of deathcore, but everything I've listened to that Jason has contributed to has been very very impressive.
He has a lot of attention dude. He revolutionized deathcore single handed. Between Born Of Osiris' album The Discovery and Chelsea Grin's EP Evolve, he has a lot of recognition
zack potter and all shall perish
still he wrote with them
zack potter I really don't think he "revolutionized death core single handed" lol
Then why did so many deathcore bands adopt born of osiris' sound after the discovery? He showed everyone that there was more that could be done with the genre than just grind.
This just goes to show that he is the best guitarist in the world.
This guy is going to make a name for himself, even more than he has already. Stoked to see this guy continue upward in his career
Jason is unbelievable. The guitar playing I'm general is hard, but all these crazy rythyms to. Its just unbelievable
I would love to get lessons with Jason and to play guitar but I've developed carpal tunnel and haven't played in a long time. One day my hand will be okay and I be able to progress towards my musical goals again.

***** you came back! I always knew you'd come back to me Zhivili! I'm so happy now :D
***** He's not pretentious. He works hard and he knows it, but he's still very humble. You don't last in a metal subgenre very long no matter what role in the band you play or how good you are if you carry on ego.
Please record an entire full length album with Travis Orbin on drums. I'd buy that shit twice, or 9 times if it gets released on vinyl.
and evan brewer on bass?
Elier Roche FUCK YES! Forgot about it! haha
ReprogrammedToHate yeah man it would be sick
Confirmed. Jason is now recording a solo album
dont forget tommy lee rogers on vocals and keys
What ever you say about anything in this masterpiece, about the drums or the sound, this is fucking awesome. Very nice
Nick Pasqual jason was also in all shall perish. letting u know dat
What about synyster gates
Pastabilities terrible compared to jason richardson
Levi Ackerman jason is technical/progressive while syn is kinda just old school shred. Their styles really couldn't be any different.
Been waiting for this god to make something like this.
And Jason is you ever see this, I hope you leave Chelsea grin..they're holdin you back man. This song completely prose it. Pursue as a solo until something else comes up..this is amazing bro.
This really is quite amazing, I love his syncopated technique in some parts.

Finally. chelsea grin was just holding him back
+mrtalkative91 this is from 2013....
Isaac Plowman
you shut your god damn mouth
+mrtalkative91 Denial at its finest
almost everything in this song is stuff he wrote for chelsea grin.
Peyton Wilson
I mean it as, the rest of chelsea grin sucks, so even if he was writing good shit, overall, the band still sucked
The level of skill to play that so cleanly...
God I can only hope he does a whole album like this one day
There is no god but he did so
Well ur in luck cuz he has done two
bruh replying to a 10yr old comment@@lordamoghxd
ITS FINALLY HERE, AND ALL OF WHAT I HOPED
Richardson, the Slayer of Osiris
Speechless..you're god of guitar.
Help Jason Richardson in his solo project!
www.indiegogo.com/projects/jason-richardson-solo-album
After seriously listening to this I have to say - it is awesome. Fix the mix and make an album like this - I would buy it.
I fucking love it! I love seeing all these haters acting like they know what they're talking about, when this Virtuoso crushes you all!
Jason we want more of this. Just know that.
I'm gonna leave a positive comment so that it also gets a fair amount of likes like the rest of the nice ones.
It's good
good!
+knifefromHeLL like
It worked!
I don't give a shit what people say I love the way this dude play guitar (y) way to go Jason!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS IS SIOOOOOO GOOOOODDDDDD
"jason richardson played no major part on the discovery"
NIGGUHS PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE
he was the discovery.
he played a bunch of major arpeggios on behold
Amazing.. It's different.. It's genius..
Sounds like any other Born Of Osiris song what are you talking about,
All I have to say to you is learn to differentiate or get the hell out of here ha.
Mark Fifield I liked Divergency, that was it XD
Now this is what true art sounds like. He's going to take Chelsea Grin places not to mention make a name for himself as an outstanding solo artist.
One of the best players at this time!
this is why he's my favorite guitarist
This song makes me cry tears of joy
I just commented to make 666th comment :) but man this raw version before the 2.0 version is so badass. I still love it after so many years
BOO sucks without you Jase. You made that band what they were and left them to maintain a level of expectation that they could never attain without you. You are the ultimate metal troll haha.
Damn, I bet this was really hard to compose. Jason is a genie.
I don't care what anyone says, this song is pretty good. Sure the mixing may sound a tad weird at times, but his guitar skills are fanominal. So congrats Jason
4:17 Those symphonics leading into the blast beats, chills every time man.
Jason Richardson is my inspiration to be a guitarist.
Probably the only track I ever bought on iTunes, holy shit
Jason Richardson > Born of Osiris
I think you'd have to be a guitarist to fully appreciate this. It's so beautifully technical and insane!!
\m/
Brutal and inventive. I hope you release more solo stuff like this Jason!
This is an amazing song. I can't wait for a full album or something! It blows my mind, I love how it's called thought!
Jason is such a talented guitarist
i can't even fathom how someone can even do that.......unbelievable. fucking genius
6:30-7:30 is when life starts making sense all of a sudden. My ears will never be the same
Looking forward to buying this album.
This song really hits the spot
Say what you want about him, but he's probably the best guitarist alive. Stay small kids.
I just love that change at 7:30 its sounds so sweet
Holy...Fuck....this is amazing. Jason is like, the king of prog.
I really dig the orchestral approach with the other instruments rather than the song just being a guitar shred fest(although its nothing less but awesome in that area). This piece is really good at keeping me interested for the whole duration of the 10 minutes as well which is not an easy feat to accomplish. It's Jason Richardson.. That means I love it before I even hear it.
Awesome. He should definitely stay solo. He really can't show his true creativity in the bands he's in.
Similar to the first AAL record in terms of background/synth, but the rest is unique and awesome! Stoked to hear more!
Part of this song is Dust to Dust off Chelsea Grins new album..never the less.... So good! Amazing
i just found this out while recognizing it from dust to dust and then went here to tell poeple haha
I was trying to remember the name of the song, it's at like 3:50 where it starts huh? I even started doing the WHOOOOOAAAAAAOOOOO!
I would be interested to see it :)
THANK YOU
Pretty sure he wrote the Devastate solo.
im pretty sure in one interview lee stated jason was what they needed to shred the band. Jason pretty much formed the discovery
182guns"what they needed to shred the band"??? He didn't form the discovery lol
This is actually amazing
I really thought BoO was gona be just fine without you, I was wrong, so very wrong, you were actually everything I liked about the Discovery apparently
It was so nice to wake up today, and this much awaited music that have been here in my loud speaker! thank you jason! so fucking awesome .. the best !!
More more more. This is great.
must be this easy when you're a genius.
Hahahaha...
"Over the top" is what describes this song best, to me at least.
mixed so well damn he's talented
I can tell by this that this man is the inspiration of sound and technique for both Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin. You had to of sold your soul to the devil.
This is awesome I wanna be a guitarist like him one day
This is awesome.
Whatever about the production, the writing is pretty awesome.
Mixing needs work but the musicality is insane
Kevin Tran listen to THOT 2.0
@@mr5jr fuck mixing bro. i think its better than whats out
SKALE - E - TRON I like both in different ways. This one is super symphonic. The other is symphonic but it’s really quiet and not as pronounced. But the mixing is better in 2.0 imo

sounds like Beneath The Massacre ;) masterfull sound and music, great job! +1
Charies-pas.
This is one of the best songs I listened to this year.
my mind is blown...
No wonder BOO felt Threatened
This guy is fucking nuts. Stellar musicianship
This intro is so beautiful...
He's such a great musician...
if you listen really good to this song and really good to dust to dust you can hear some parts coming back :P
Yeah, you were the mastermind behind BOO; no doubt about it. This track blows their whole new CD away. I'd just desire better recording quality.
oh god so good
oui
By far my favorite musician out there. I had no clue that Jason played all of these instruments. Mad fucking props dude, hoping to hear more of this because I will always support. Sooo excited for the new CG album.
GOD?! IS THIS YOU?!
I wish the whole thing was guitar but hell this is a masterpiece, Jason is amazing he needs to make more solo music :')
perfect
10 Trillion times better than what Born Of Osiris came up with. Well done Jason.
Looks like new album will be sick!
This was mad sexy, Jason you are a huge inspiration and I really hope you continue to craft and hone your skills because you seriously kick ass.
This song is devoid of any low end...
Fucking brilliant. Even more stoked now for the CG album
OH MY GAWD!
The last thing we needed was an instrumental BOO.
WOW, cant wait to hear the solo album!
That was awesome
someone explain me how the heck can people calling this song generic? :o you guys should probably grow new pair of ears...
thats what im saying people are insane
hahah. yeah man some people are totally fucked.
