- The Japanese digging knife (hori hori) is one of the best gardening tools, acting as a garden trowel, digging tool, hoe, utility knife, saw, and more. Pair that with a soil block maker and you have yourself a winning combination of garden efficiency. Here are the 8 different ways that I use the hori hori when planting soil blocks.

Hooray for the Hori Hori...!!!
Exaaaactly! ;-)
I loved this! Keep the tips coming!
Will do! ❤️
Yayyy! I found another garden channel to watch! I love using soil blocks! I need a Hori Hori...
Oh...I love long or short video's!
They're both very under-utilized tools! And definitely some of my favorites!
Heads up the Hori Hori is amazing but SHARP, which i found out playing in garden the first time..
@@cheriemartin3767 I appreciate that heads up!
love both the 2 min and long version.. i’m following your links and going to order those tools!
Haha! I really struggled to keep the minutes down on that one!
Love the tips! Hori Hori knife? All the wasted years, I definitely need one now! And using the hotel pans for the soil blocks? Genius!❤️
Yeah I got tired of throwing out all those plastic trays. Worth the investment!
Best garden tool purchase I've ever made. I've also used it to cut twine and saw bamboo to length.
Also it helps you make you look like a ninja. That's also a +1. ;-)
Protect your plant with your fingers!!! Ufff, April, that’s courageous!!!
Takin' one for the team!
Bought a hori hori a few years ago. It’s so useful I keep it on my belt.
When people ask me what it is I just say, “gardening knife “ otherwise I get weird looks😂
Haha, yeah that's what I say these days too. Otherwise people think I some sort of weird horticultural samurai 🤣
You asked if we prefer 2min or longer, I prefer longer. I really enjoy your videos and wish you would make more
Thank you Julie! I'm actually ramping up this year! Stay tuned!
Like both the tips and the longer demos as well
Glad you like the shorter ones. I need to do more shorter ones. My videos always take me so long because the topic just gets so huge! 🤷♀️
This was a great video on a garden tool that I had not considered.
I love it! Useful for so many things!
Could you do a video on soil blocking?
Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion!
I love my horihori
😉
This looks like a good tool to have for sure!!!
.
Do you use the smaller soil blocker too?? Im considering getting the kit from the gardener workshop.
I have the small one, but I never use it. It's SOOOOO tiny. I think it's meant only to keep the seedlings in for a very short time before potting up to the medium size. I'm just too lazy to do that! So I just start them in the medium sized one and plant a few extra blocks to allow for ones that don't germinate.
@@ReSprout oh interesting, may I ask if you use the heat mats and lights with the soil blocker??
Oh yes! Definitely! The heat mats really make a difference for the heat loving crops like tomatoes and peppers and eggplant. I start my seeds in my cellar though where it is quite cool. You might be able to get away with no mats if they’re in a warm spot. The lights are a must-have. Just get some inexpensive shop lights from the home improvement store. You don’t even need special bulbs despite what everyone says.
Just discovered your channel and love these videos!
Yay! Thank you!
